I agree we definitly do not need anymore young charactors and i wish the funding of e20 would go into the main show instead.

Quite a decent duff duff tonight I thought. ASTOUNDING performance from Carol after she found out about the gun.

I absolutely cannot stomach Glenda though. She's hammier than Danny, as if that's even possible.

'Enders claims Thursday victory for 10th week

Friday, April 9 2010, 10:25 BST

By Kris Green, Soaps Editor

EastEnders topped the Thursday soap ratings for the tenth week in a row last night, according to overnight data.

The Walford soap's third outing of the week, which saw Danny continue with his plan to fleece Roxy of her inheritance, drew 8.7m (39%) from 7.30pm. BBC Three's 10pm repeat added a further 981k (4.8%) and was the most-watched multichannel programme of the day.

Meanwhile, Coronation Street's edition logged 7.68m (30.9%) at 8pm.

Since ITV's new drama lineup was launched 38 weeks ago on July 23, EastEnders has claimed victory 24 times, compared with Coronation Street's 13. The soaps drew on January 28.

Emmerdale's double bill, which saw Aaron share a moment with Jackson before throwing him out, averaged 6.56m (29.4%) and 6.74m (29.4%) at 7pm and 8pm respectively.

another 'preachfest' from the thought controlers intent on using the soap to 'educate' people.... this time its gun crime... <_< . ridiculous paint wars, and uninteresting events at the vic.... carole performing well?.. well yes she did, but the preaching about gun crime and the uninteresting nature of the plot made it yet another episode that failed to win over a casual viewer.
Carol, Billie, Ben and Abi need to go ASAP! I know Ben and Abi are only young (about my age), but all they do is moan, moan, moan... Ben's idea of being mean to Louise was melting her expensive chocolate bunny

You're not a casual viewer Rob, you're a rampant complainer. I really don't understand why you insist on your undermining your own intelligence by coming in here to spew hate all the time. It's blindingly obvious that you're constantly looking for reasons to put EastEnders down - why bother? Criticise it when it's bad, as we do, but don't embarass yourself by laying into it when it's on perfectly fine form.

The storyline involving Carol (no 'e') and Billie is not preachy, it's just reflective of real life. Some people support the Army, some don't, and that's obviously how it is in the real world. If anything it's Billie we side with in this storyline because Carol is being a cow about it and refusing to let him making a choice as an adult so I fail to see how it's even remotely preachy. If you're going to apply that way of thinking to EE then you must feel the same about Emmerdale, and yet I see no resentment from you in the ED thread? I don't see you complaining about how every episode Aaron gets a lecture from Paddy or Jackson about how it's okay to be gay, or about the fact that we're constantly being reminded Olena is a good person and that many immigrants don't deserve all of the prejudice they get? You're so bizarre sometimes.

I think we have 2-3 posters who only come to run eastenders down, and its clear they are not fans of the show, personnely i dont know how anyone can sit down for a half an hour watching a show they clearly dont like, and then spend even more time posting to critiscise it aswell.

i watch ee occassionally, usually on a friday, i think that qualifies me as a casual viewer... i watch it because i still remember the old days when it was $h!t hot, id LIKE it to be that way again, sometimes a decent storyline will capture me but then it goes off and ends up being annoying.

eastenders has been preacxhy for about 15 years now, every so often the left wing do gooders who run the show will use it to 'teach the viewers a lesson'... this time it was the effects on gun crime, it was a thinly veiled lesson to its younger viewers on how bad guns are, and to the older viewers to say 'see we are upto date with real issues and heres our stand on it'... <_<

no other soap lectures you unsubtely about anything, id object if it did! other issues are dealt with in a much better, non preachy way, in all the soaps ive seen.

emmerdale hasnt preached anything about olena, if it did it would be showing thickies bemoaning the fact that "they are takin our jobs" whilst highlighting her willingness to work for low wages. they dont, they just get on with it.

oh lord... how many times must i explain?.... yawn...

Please don't waste your times or our by trying 'explain' again. It's nothing to do with 'unlikeable' characters or 'preachy storylines' - you simply have contempt for EastEnders and clearly always will. It's fine, I'm the same with Coronation Street. Just don't try and pass it off as you being objective when you clearly aren't in the slightest bit.

jark.... you are wrong.

i gave a brief overview on the programme i viewed on friday night. thats what the threads for... not to bum it up, but to give an honest account of the programme. i have contempt for anything preachy, badly executed storyline, unlikable characters in the same way ill praise when it is fitting to do so. i did praise the p**** storyline, ive praised lacey turner who is a stunningly good actress ... in fact i rate her the best actress in any soap on tv.

just accept it, we dont all think the same.

Pete ... people like Rob and myself are only doing the same as professional program reviewers do ... only we don't get paid for it. I've watched a few episodes of Eastenders and some of them have been very good ... some have been very bad ... Rob and myself just point out those points. You'll find on the Corrie forum ... the fans are a little more objective or let's say a little less fanatical than EE fans. At the moment ... both soaps are far from great ... although thank heavens Corrie is utilising its older cast members with good scripts at the moment - the aged 'bitch-fest' between Rita and Audrey is particularly good. However we do see that not everything Corrie does is great.

Fair enough ... if you only want to discuss the soap with others who think it is 100% brilliant ... fair enough ... it'll be a pretty one-sided conversation though ... and a trifle boring.

Personally I like Rob's input in most of the threads .... he criticises some of Corrie's plot-lines and stories and although I disagree on some ... I like him posting there.

Norma

Enough.

Seriously this EE hate has to stop. If you don't like the show / have problems with it / etc then don't post in this thread. Sure people should be able to post their opinion both positive and negative but obviously that's too difficult here. I'm sick of seeing petty posts and arguements in here between members and about the show. I've warned about this before in the previous thread but obviously that wasn't enough.

thank you norma..

i think youve hit a salient point there too, ee fans ARE much more fanatical and dont take to criticism of their fav show. many who are critical of us being critical werent even born when ee was at its best... i remember how captivating it was, i remember the great storylines and great characters.

To be honest, I find this whole "only post if you like EE" thing absolutely ridiculous. It's a discussion forum, we're not the official EE love-in forum. Sure, I agree that it does come across sometimes that Rob deliberately seeks out points to criticise EE on, but I don't see that it should prohibit him from posting.

I agree

personally I don't care if someone likes or dislikes the show but when that person or persons seem to constantly disrupt the flow of the thread and even cause arguements then that's where enough is enough

Who don't people understand this? Criticism is fine if it's warranted. The great majority of episodes have plus and minus points and are not perfect but at the same time are not dreadful from start to end. If you look at Rob's last ten posts in this thread at any given time the last nine will be nothing but 'yet again another load of crap from crapenders :grudge: I don't like this storyline, I don't like this character but I'm not going to justify it' etc etc. How can anybody say the fans of the show are one-sided and then come in continually to post the most amazingly one sided criticisms?

Anybody who has read this thread will know that I'm firm in my criticisms of the show when it deserves it, ie during the Balham crew storyline or when Danny is on screen to name just a few recent examples so frankly I think to even attempt to call me (or feelthefever) out as being blind fans is exceptionally lazy and frankly an insult to my intelligence.

I don't mind Norma's postings because she does praise the good bits but Rob simply doesn't. Occasionally he'll admit that somebody is a good actor (after he's been called out on an essay of a post slamming the show and not even recognising a single decent actor or scene) and then every time he posts after that he uses his 'praise' of said actor to justify continually slamming the show. I'll not post in this thread again if anybody wants to tell me that that's a fair way to behave and not just an act of spite.

Thanks Osiris, by the way, for trying to stamp out the arguments in here but like I said it might have to be me who leaves if Rob has genuinely convinced himself of his objectivity.

I think you're over-reacting completely Jark. Mushy doesn't like EE. So what. Ignore it, but I think it's a ridiculous idea that one of you has to leave because of it

I don't like the Saturdays. Does that mean every Saturdays fan or I should leave Buzzjack?

I was referring to leaving this thread dear as opposed to BJ as a whole, and no, it doesn't mean that, it means that you shouldn't continually spew hate in the Saturdays' threads - and you don't, so I don't think you have much of a point there.

It was merely an example.

Now you know I have much love for your Jark, but I do think you're being far too OTT here. Why does someone not liking EE mean you have to leave? Is it really worth getting THAT het up about?

I've always said it, but a discussion forum ceases to be a discussion forum when everyone joins hands and simply agrees with each other on everything. There's as much room for criticism as there is praise.
