Ok, this may be controversial but I think I've just found my favourite chart of all time. It's got a mixture of songs I absolutely adored as a ten year old, plus some great dance tracks including possibly my favourite trance song ever at number 14! Apart from 3 songs, i wouldn't wish to hear any of the others. Not much there, very poor indeed, shows the difference in someone being 10 and someone being just a tad older :D

Totally understood - in ten years time someone could post a chart from 2010 in here and call it the best one ever, but I'd struggle to find much.

I looked at a chart from this time in 1980 and I only know six of the songs in the top 40. In the above chart I know twenty nine at least. And w/e 10/7/1999 is just as good to me - replace Blur's 'Tender' with 'Coffee & TV' and System F with Gouryella, etc. I can understand though how the above chart would be a nightmare to some :D

Far from being the best chart of 1999, an amazing year.

These I still like or enjoy:

4. Britney Spears - Baby One More Time

5. The New Radicals - You Get What You Give

7. TLC - No Scrubs

9. B*Witched - Blame It On The Weatherman

12. Whitney Houston - It's Not Right But It's Okay

13. Robbie Williams - Strong

14. System F - Out Of The Blue

15. Sash! - Colour The World

17. Kele Le Roc - My Love

19. Cher - Strong Enough

23. The Corrs - Runaway

26. Tina Cousins - Killin' Time

28. Roxette - Wish I Could Fly

30. Blondie - Maria

35. Madonna - Nothing Really Matters

37. The Cardigans - Erase/Rewind

39. Armand Van Helden Featuring Duane Harden - U Don't Know Me

40. DJ Sakin And Friends - Protect Your Mind (For The Love Of A Princess)

i reckon its a pretty mixed chart, not as mixed as c1980 though. the bad tracks are utterly awful but there are some good uns in there.

1. Mr Oizo - Flat Beat ..................... complete $h!te

2. The Cartoons - Witch Doctor ........ and this

3. Billie Piper - Honey To The Bee .... an ok pop song, possibly her best

4. Britney Spears - Baby One More Time .... another good pop song

5. The New Radicals - You Get What You Give .... ok but tbh its abit 'wet'

6. Boyzone - When The Going Gets Tough .......... utter cack

7. TLC - No Scrubs ....................... never liked these, dont like this

8. The Vengaboys - We Like To Party! (The Vengabus) .... more $h!te

9. B*Witched - Blame It On The Weatherman ...... and again

10. Des'ree - You Gotta Be .............. ok

and the pick of the rest

11. Steps - Better Best Forgotten ....... i wish i could forget you.

13. Robbie Williams - Strong ......... cant help but like robbie, the showman

14. System F - Out Of The Blue ..... brilliant!

18. Andy Williams - Music To Watch Girls By .... good track

20. Blur - Tender ...... not big on blur but i like this

21. George Michael And Mary J Blige - As ...ok cover

24. Steps - Heartbeat/Tragedy ..... vile :puke2:

30. Blondie - Maria .......... great comeback track :)

35. Madonna - Nothing Really Matters

39. Armand Van Helden Featuring Duane Harden - U Don't Know Me .. americas greatest dance track??

1. Mr Oizo - Flat Beat - ok-ish. Can't imagine I'll ever rush to hear it again though. Still, a worthy #1 if only for the fact that it beat...

2. The Cartoons - Witch Doctor - H.I.D.E.O.U.S.

3. Billie Piper - Honey To The Bee - vaguely remember it, surprised it did this well

4. Britney Spears - Baby One More Time - classic track but I don't like it much, always found the video a bit creepy

5. The New Radicals - You Get What You Give - Not that great really I guess but stood out at the time

6. Boyzone - When The Going Gets Tough - Rubbish

7. TLC - No Scrubs - Liked this and them

8. The Vengaboys - We Like To Party! (The Vengabus) - Trash

9. B*Witched - Blame It On The Weatherman - The best of a bad bunch from them

10. Des'ree - You Gotta Be - This seemed to be re-released all the time, think this was it's most successful one

Notable others:

12. Whitney Houston - It's Not Right But It's Okay - one of her best

14. System F - Out Of The Blue - great trance tune, still love it now

16. The Aphex Twin - Windowlicker - Amazing track, best in the chart by a mile

18. Andy Williams - Music To Watch Girls By - advert driven re-release, not too bad

20. Blur - Tender - Actually, maybe Aphex Twin isn't the best by a mile, this was brilliant also

27. Underworld - Push Upstairs - Liked this a lot, they were getting towards the end of a great run of singles

30. Blondie - Maria - liked this, great band and was good to see them back

35. Madonna - Nothing Really Matters - 5th and final great single from Ray Of Light

36. Lenny Kravitz - Fly Away - Bet he never thought he'd get a #1! Again, advert related success but I did like the music on this one, even if the lyrics were a bit basic

37. The Cardigans - Erase/Rewind - rare top 10 hit for them, propelled by the success of previous (and better) single My Favourite Game

38. Stereophonics - Just Looking - really crap. They really are one of the worst ever bands with some of their singles.

39. Armand Van Helden Featuring Duane Harden - U Don't Know Me - great dance track, surprise #1 for me

might as well do this too;

1. Mr Oizo - Flat Beat - Never liked it, really annoying

2. The Cartoons - Witch Doctor - terrible band with terrible songs - insanely catchy though :drama:

3. Billie Piper - Honey To The Bee - one of her better songs, certainly out of the first few it was the best, nice to see it return to the charts in 2007 too!

4. Britney Spears - Baby One More Time - a classic, still sounds great now

5. The New Radicals - You Get What You Give - One of the best songs of the 90's for me, absolute classic - still listen to this loads now!

6. Boyzone - When The Going Gets Tough - haha, not exactly their best but it's good for a singalong - surprised how many of the 'celebs' in the video are still relevant now too (Jo Brand, Harry Hill, Davina McCall, Chris Moyles etc...)

7. TLC - No Scrubs - classic song, one of the best R&B singles of the 90's

8. The Vengaboys - We Like To Party! (The Vengabus) - catchy and a good party song but I was never a massive Vengaboys fan

9. B*Witched - Blame It On The Weatherman - I loved all of their #1's (and nothing else they ever did after those) so yep, I'm a fan! Big fall from #1 though

10. Des'ree - You Gotta Be - This was released a few times wasn't it? decent enough pop song, one of a few 'classics' in the top ten

15. Sash! - Colour The World - Dire, his worst single for me by quite some margin - hated Dr Alban's vocals on it

17. Kele Le Roc - My Love - had this on the other day, more pleasant than I remembered

23. The Corrs - Runaway - one of my favourite songs of all time still, fantastic

29. Shawn Mullins - Lullaby - one of many

35. Madonna - Nothing Really Matters - underrated, a great song from Ray Of Light

37. The Cardigans - Erase/Rewind - brilliant, I remember being proud of buying it at the time, I was only 11 and I felt 'indie' :heehee: Disagreeing with Dandy, despite My Favourite Game being great, I love this so much more.

40. DJ Sakin And Friends - Protect Your Mind (For The Love Of A Princess) - pretty great, worked well considering the odd concept

I like these

4. Britney Spears - Baby One More Time

5. The New Radicals - You Get What You Give

13. Robbie Williams - Strong

20. Blur - Tender

25. Manic Street Preachers - You Stole The Sun From My Heart

29. Shawn Mullins - Lullaby

30. Blondie - Maria

32. Travis - Writing To Reach You

36. Lenny Kravitz - Fly Away

37. The Cardigans - Erase/Rewind

38. Stereophonics - Just Looking

39. Armand Van Helden Featuring Duane Harden - U Don't Know Me

This is a good chart! A handful of late 90s classics IMO, and I think you could find much cheesier charts from this period really.

1. Mr Oizo - Flat Beat - Liked the bass on this, though I suppose it did grate looped over. I had a soft toy of Flat Eric too before I threw it out [/random]

4. Britney Spears - Baby One More Time - An iconic track. Excellent.

5. The New Radicals - You Get What You Give - Decent enough one-hit wonder, I suppose.

7. TLC - No Scrubs - Good track, with the Left Eye rap being the highlight.

9. B*Witched - Blame It On The Weatherman - Nice song, but loved it more then than I do now.

12. Whitney Houston - It's Not Right But It's Okay - Brilliant. Loved the attitude on this one.

16. The Aphex Twin - Windowlicker - Good song, but I'm not crazy about it.

17. Kele Le Roc - My Love - Pretty forgettable. Preffered the garage mix, which took a boring song and made it interesting.

19. Cher - Strong Enough - Decent enough disco-pop.

20. Blur - Tender - Gorgeous track. One of their best.

22. 2Pac - Changes - Not crazy about 2Pac, but this was very good.

23. The Corrs - Runaway

27. Underworld - Push Upstairs - Decent, but pretty average by their standards.

28. Roxette - Wish I Could Fly

30. Blondie - Maria - Coming back with a bang and a career highlight.

33. The Beautiful South - How Long's A Tear Take To Dry? - Nice and inoffensive enough, like pretty much all their songs.

37. The Cardigans - Erase/Rewind

39. Armand Van Helden Featuring Duane Harden - U Don't Know Me - Good house track.

40. DJ Sakin And Friends - Protect Your Mind (For The Love Of A Princess) - I think I liked this. Might be thinking of something else.

i agree re the cardigans.... i hated 'my favourite game', due mainly to that annoying schoolboy riff... if it qualifies as a riff, 'erase rewind' though has a superbly sombre feel to it, great track.
Ah well, both of them pale in comparison to the wonderful 'For What It's Worth' and 'You're The Storm' anyhow...

1. Mr Oizo - Flat Beat I still think this is great, very minimal and fitted very nicely with the recent eletro house sound.

2. The Cartoons - Witch Doctor Let me think about this... No!

3. Billie Piper - Honey To The Bee Utter tosh, no wonder Billie wishes to forget about her pop star days.

4. Britney Spears - Baby One More Time Why is this always cited as a great pop song? A talentless pop star who is so undeserving of her success. Utter tosh.

5. The New Radicals - You Get What You Give Very, very, very annoying!

6. Boyzone - When The Going Gets Tough No!

7. TLC - No Scrubs Sod the Spice Girls, acts like this and En Vogue wrote the Girl Power bible years before. This is a great track!

8. The Vengaboys - We Like To Party! (The Vengabus) It's alarming how big these were. Dance music for nippers.

9. B*Witched - Blame It On The Weatherman Truly awful girl band.

10. Des'ree - You Gotta Be How many times has this been released? Too many...

Of the rest, I like...

12. Whitney Houston - It's Not Right But It's Okay

14. System F - Out Of The Blue

16. The Aphex Twin - Windowlicker

17. Kele Le Roc - My Love

21. George Michael And Mary J Blige - As

27. Underworld - Push Upstairs

35. Madonna - Nothing Really Matters

39. Armand Van Helden Featuring Duane Harden - U Don't Know Me

Some great tracks, but an awful lot of rubbish manufactured pop. I can find better charts IMO.

Not for me, Erase/Rewind is my favourite Cardigans track by quite some margin  second would be Don't Blame Your Daughter - that should have been HUGE

Fave tracks from this top 40:

Lowlights :nocheer:

2. The Cartoons - Witch Doctor

11. Steps - Better Best Forgotten

The others are just there. In fact I don't think I've ever heard The Brian Setzer Orchestra 'Jump Jive An' Wail'.

Comments on Top 10:

1. Mr Oizo - Flat Beat - Dreadful novelty dance tat. The 1990s equivalent of Steve Silk Hurley's Jack Your Body from 1986.

2. The Cartoons - Witch Doctor - Just the thought of this horrendous revival of an old awful 1950s US hit single is enough to make me puke. Vile.

3. Billie Piper - Honey To The Bee - Her least worst best ever single. I'm glad Swindon's finest is doing what she does best though - acting.

4. Britney Spears - Baby One More Time - The Birth of a pop icon and legend until Lady GaGa came along and made her seem old hat.

5. The New Radicals - You Get What You Give - My favourite record of 1999. Power Pop genius.

6. Boyzone - When The Going Gets Tough - Not a huge fan of the Billy Ocean UK#1 hit. But this cover was a distinct turn for the worse. Still better than Westlife's massacre of Billy Joel's Uptown Girl though.

7. TLC - No Scrubs - The greatest girlgroup ever IMHO, with their greatest ever single.

8. The Vengaboys - We Like To Party! (The Vengabus) - Awful. Saving it's use in a repetative weekly skit on Sky Sports' Soccer:AM

9. B*Witched - Blame It On The Weatherman - In a top ten full of either brilliant pop records or utter dross, this song was OK.

10. Des'ree - You Gotta Be - Keep it quiet, but I really liked this song.

Of the remainder I liked:

12. Whitney Houston - It's Not Right But It's Okay

16. The Aphex Twin - Windowlicker

17. Kele Le Roc - My Love

18. Andy Williams - Music To Watch Girls By

20. Blur - Tender

21. George Michael And Mary J Blige - As

23. The Corrs - Runaway

25. Manic Street Preachers - You Stole The Sun From My Heart

28. Roxette - Wish I Could Fly

29. Shawn Mullins - Lullaby

30. Blondie - Maria

32. Travis - Writing To Reach You

35. Madonna - Nothing Really Matters

36. Lenny Kravitz - Fly Away

37. The Cardigans - Erase/Rewind

38. Stereophonics - Just Looking

39. Armand Van Helden Featuring Duane Harden - U Don't Know Me

The following week was played today on Radio 2's Pick Of The Pops and has led to a furious row over them missing out Eminem at No.2.
