I agree, maybe the main focus is discovering music....but it's also a competition at the end of the day.

 

If we wanted to discover music in it's purest/simplest form we could just have a thread where people posted these songs.

 

How does making it one big final make it any less of a competition? If anything there's more competition as there are more rival songs eligible for points. Receiving them would be all the more special.

I don't mind experimenting, but is their need to experiment when we already know the result?

 

Oh, and I'm all for being proved wrong - taking part in a big final and loving it. Don't see that happening, though

Four people are not the contest, and I'm going to take Jerick's claim with a pinch of salt given he's objected to basically every change to the contest so far.

Since this thread started I've been read that how semis are not important, and we should screw them...without mentioning a competition until it's been brought now...and yes it makes a less of a competition, since everybody will be in a final is that really a competition...NO...and competition for giving points will be there with or without semis.

 

I guess I'll just wait until the decision will be made cause this is going in endless discussion with agrees and disagrees.

Listening through and voting on 40+ songs could easily become a chore, I should know because I've been in spinoffs over at NSC that have over 40 songs in them with a different points system (up to 20 points for favourite I think, voting for 15 songs) and it pales in comparison to the semi/finals format.....it's not as exciting. Imo anyway.

 

Also, I'd imagine it would be alot easier for people to get frustrated (and not the "oh I'll just keep trying frustrated") with always getting 45th's or 48th's than getting 25th's or 28th's

- You already listen to 40+ songs in two weeks (or, at least, 35+). If you really need to split it up, just pretend half the songs were in the 'other semi' and listen to it as normal the next week.

People need to remember here...we CREATED semis. We didn't have them for a good few early contests. We can easily live without semis. We have done before, with just as much fun. The only difference this will have is another ten songs added on. We could even shorten it to a week and a half if you all got THAT bored.

How would it not be a competition without semis? :mellow: That makes no sense whatsoever. There's still a winner / last place. Like Aaron said, it makes it even harder / points are even more precious.

 

I don't see why ANYONE would want to DNQ instead of being near the bottom in a big final? At least being in the bottom during the big final you were given a chance and EVERYONE got a chance to listen to your song rather than just half the participants. You also get points in your point total wheras if you DNQ it was like you didn't even enter that contest in the first place.

 

I think that it's interesting that everyone who has hosted wants just one big final and everyone who hasn't wants semis. I don't you you all understand how annoying they really are to put together, not that it should be a real REASON but I feel like they serve almost 0 function in the first place. Plus a big final would result in SO much more interest voting night; I know that when I DNQ I don't keep up with the final results and just quickly look at it after because I couldn't care less about who wins.

 

And anyone who thinks listening to 40+ songs in two weeks is stressful is ridiculous. I listen to hundreds of songs in that ammount of time. You're just being lazy and it's like, what, 10 songs more? We've already lost an incredible ammount of size over the past three or four contests.

This contest is very, very different to how it was then! :lol: A small participation rate, cheap entries left, right and centre, and we have no idea how it would've been had semis been in the equation...

Obviously I'll still participate no matter what happens. :P 25 contests in, it'd be silly to quit now over some silly rule change.

I think it's at least worth a try. One contest with this experiment could do us good. If not, then at least we'd know that for sure.

Let's just change it for this month, and after that we could have a poll asking if people were happy with the new system, if not, we can always go back to how it was.

 

I do think it should be 15pts rather than 10pts if we happen to have 1 big final, I already have enough trouble deciding which country gets my 1/2pts since I usually have several countries tied for points, even without favourites that dnq from the opposite semi.

I agree with Ben. After hosting twice, semi finals are the most annoying thing about doing it :lol:! One big final would be so much easier.
