Posted April 9, 201015 yr David Cameron seems hell-bent (excuse the expression) on snatching some pink votes this time round... however, have a look at this link - it really does seem still depressingly true that a gay man voting Tory is like a Jew joining the Nazi party.... http://mygayvote.co.uk/
April 10, 201015 yr Author Strange - don't you think those charts show otherwise? Behind Cameron's desperate facade of apparent tolerance lies the same old blue-rinse Daily Mail-reading middle-England Tory party.... as clearly displayed in those percentages. A vote for the conservatives is, as it always has been, a homophobic vote.
April 10, 201015 yr I'm shocked the conservatives are still so anti-gay :o I thought in Britain today, where all the parties are quite central, that they'd be much closer to Labour and the Lib Dems. Really, I think I have the background of a typical Tory voter, but I just don't like them :P
April 10, 201015 yr Is that figure for the equality act really true? DID 75% of Tories vote against it? I'm stunned that anyone in this day and age could be so spiteful as to actually think gay people should be turned away from a job because they're gay.
April 10, 201015 yr Chris; it's naive to think there's not still pockets of homophobia everywhere, and why not in public office? The only difference is that parties have realised that they have to try and put a publically acceptable face on and not alienate gay voters. Window dressing. Having said that, those figures DO shock me. I never thought it would be that bad. It really makes you look at Dave's latest attempts to reach out the homosexual vote in a new light.
April 11, 201015 yr Regardless of whether there are still quite a lot of homophobes on the Tory backbenches (and I'm sure there are), I don't believe a Cameron government would start rolling back equality laws. If he was planning to, I don't see why he would be so ardently trying to put accross the message that he was "gay-friendly" - because let's face it, most mainstream voters don't put gay rights far up their list of priorities, supporting gay rights isn't going to alter the course of this election eitherway, so I don't think he would be putting across these views if he wasn't sincere about them.
April 19, 201015 yr I'm in agreement with Russ on this.. Let's look at the evidence of the CON-servative party.... A "Top Tory" has defended the "rights" of B and B owners to refuse entry to gay couples.... Ludicrous... You're running a BUSINESS for fukk sake, you have no right whatsoever to pass moral judgement on those who would choose to use it... Tory MEPs have spoken in favour of a Lithuanian version of Clause 28 in the European Parliament.... So, this just proves to me that leopards do NOT change their spots... A vote for CON-servative is a vote for ignorance....
