British actor Henry Cavill, who is largely unknown to those who aren’t fans of the Showtime drama “The Tudors,” has landed the part of perhaps America’s most iconic character: Superman.

Cavill will play the red-and-blue-clad superhero, as well as his alter ego Clark Kent, in Zack Snyder-directed reboot of the franchise set for release in December, 2012, Warner Bros. announced today.

The 27 year-old actor is familiar with the role, as he was reportedly very close to getting it in 2006′s “Superman Returns,” before director McG was replaced by Bryan Singer, who instead cast Brandon Routh.

He will be much better known to movie fans this November when he stars in the Greek myth drama “Immortals.”

Brits are getting all the big superhero roles these days so it seems..

The Tomb Raider franchise will be rebooted with a new movie due for release in 2013.

GK Films, the company owned by Oscar-winning Departed producer Graham King, has snapped up the movie rights to the hit video game series from Square Enix.

King and Tim Headington will produce the new Tomb Raider, which is rumoured to focus on Lara Croft's origins.

"We are very excited to be rebooting what is already a hugely successful film franchise* and continuing the Tomb Raider phenomenon," King said.

Angelina Jolie starred as the adventurer in 2001's Lara Croft: Tomb Raider and its 2003 sequel Tomb Raider: The Cradle Of Life. Combined the movies took more than $430 million at the worldwide box office.

Square Enix subsidiary Crystal Dynamics last year announced a multi-platform relaunch of Tomb Raider. The first video game sees Lara survive a shipwreck to find herself washed ashore on an unknown beach.

*

I loved the first 2 TR movies but they need a good actress to play Lara.

Also, Lara has had about 3 different origin stories

I loved the two Tomb Raiders, but I just can't imagine anyone other than Angelina playing her... hmm

WHAT!!!!!!!!

Jolie IS Lara Croft, so they'd best pick one hell of an actress for this reboot.

The original Tomb Raider movie is one of my all time faves.

LOL another actor to play Superman, the Superman franchise was doomed from the start of the original film.

Movies

Christopher Reeve

Brandon Routh

2012 Henry Clavill

TV

George Reeve (I think) B/W version

Dean Cain

Tom Welling

She doesn't want to do it :( She'd be perfect though.

'Carrie' (1976) still

Horror classic Carrie is to be revisited by Spider-Man: Turn Off The Dark and comic writer Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa.

The new version from Screen Gems and MGM will go back to the 1974 novel by Stephen King, Deadline reports.

Aguirre-Sacasa previously penned the graphic novelisation of the prolific writer's novel The Stand.

Sissy Spacek stars in the 1976 film adaptation as the bullied teenage girl who unleashes her telekinetic powers on her victimisers after they soak her in pig's blood at the high school prom.

Since then, there has been a failed Broadway musical based on the book and a 2002 television version.

Aguirre-Sacasa has been drafted in to revive the Spider-Man-inspired musical and will also be writing for Glee's next season.

Stephen King has claimed that he is open to having Lindsay Lohan play the titular role in a planned Carrie remake.

It was revealed today that Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, writer of Spider Man: Turn Off The Dark, is to bring a new adaptation of King's classic horror novel to the big screen.

When asked for his thoughts on the project, the 63-year-old author expressed doubt that Brian De Palma's 1976 flick could be outdone, but appeared excited by the prospect of seeing Lohan star.

He told Entertainment Weekly: "I've heard rumblings about a Carrie remake...who knows if it will happen?

"The real question is why, when the original was so good? I mean, not Casablanca, or anything, but a really good horror-suspense film, much better than the book. Although Lindsay Lohan as Carrie White… hmmm. It would certainly be fun to cast."

King also named his dream directors for the Carrie remake, stating: "I guess I could get behind it if they turned the project over to one of the Davids - Lynch or Cronenberg."
