have just read that Christina Aguilera's new single 'Not Myself Tonight' has been removed from UK iTunes...

was wondering what happens to any sales thus far - assuming there was some, obviously?

is it a sign of a track under performing if it's added then later removed?

NMT was removed because the early releases don't really suit the UK music market. Firstly you need to promote (radio / TV / etc) the song, and later put the song into iTunes. It's the US when Christina got top5 (now falling). With the actual release of the song I think NMT could at least go top10.

The sales from there (and from other download sites) will be tallied by the OCC as normal, but it remains to be seen whether enough sneaked through to take her T200 on Sunday...

I remember when Pink's So What was added early, it didn't do much at all, then obviously by the time it was re-added it was time for it to be a hit.

It did, it debuted at #183 on the top 200 today.

Songs that get pulled from itunes should have the sales they already had that week annulled from chart eligibility.

Dizzee Rascal's Bonkers was removed on the Friday (?) from iTunes having already sold near to 100k. Do you really think it'd be fair for those sales to be annulled?

Why? They were genuine sales of the track.

hopefully in the near future all songs will be available legally from the moment they are played on the radio so that they can gain sales as they become popular.so many sales are lost through people dloading them illegally!! although there would be a problem here with big artists as they would chart without support - maybe they could wait a week or so after the songs went on the video channels!!

Why?

They can't simply be added onto later weeks, otherwise record companies would manipulate that as a deliberate tactic to concentrate sales into the week of official release...

I havnt heard christina Aguilera's song at all! no radio and i have it on all day in the background!
