I'm really hoping that we do get some more material from the Sugababes. Unpopular opinion but Sweet 7 is my favourite Sugababes album and I loved 'Freedom'! They have got better with each line-up in my opinion and Jade is a fantastic addition to the line-up and they deserve to be very successful!

May you rest in peace. You might get lynched for that opinion.

You're forgetting that it's 2013 so at the end of this year Heidi will leave/be kicked out and replaced. It's the 4 year cycle.

If Heidi goes then seriously what is the point hoho, well I say this now but is probably bum the new material anyway lol

You're my new best friend

Regardless if people think of them as a band/brand or a joke, I don't personally care. I'm just excited for another album, as a Heidi fan from day 1, theres nothing I want more than an 8th album. It'll be interesting either way! Rant over :)

If they couldn't get this campaign going two years ago, what on earth makes anyone think they can suddenly get it going by the end of 2013?

I doubt any of them are passionate enough about the Sugababes project that they'll start pumping their own money into it.

Well if Freedom was actually released then it could have done well :D It is a really good song, it's catchy, it has a good beat

It was released. Radio REFUSED to play it!!

They did promotion for it and then ended up throwing it out for FREE because it got zero support from the media and was going to miss the top200 completely if it was released.

It wasn't even the most downloaded free song on Amazon when it was 'released'!!!!!!!

But why would radio refuse to play it? It was a really good song, they played Get Sexy and that almost got to number one and I remember they played other songs from the Sweet 7 era.

It's such a shame, how could it get to this?

Hopefully their new material will slay!

Because they didn't like it? I have no idea why it registered zero support from radio or TV. I don't even remember seeing the Nokia advert it was supposed to be getting used in. (Now that Remix was Fab!)

Sweet 7 did flop horrifically after the release of Wear My Kiss hence no single 4 (Not releasing Crash & Burn aka the only good thing they've done as 4.0 was a MASSIVE mistake). Radio 1 tend to snub artists when they have a disastrous era like that. (3 OK selling top10 singles would have been fine had the album managed to sell a couple of hundred thousand. When your in danger of being outsold by Siobhan you know shit's gone wrong)

Yeah, I have seen the advert on DigitalSpy but I don't recall seeing it anywhere else. I think their performance of Freedom on Daybreak was really good

I just find it such a shame, I hope that they can salvage their career :)

I guess when Keisha was thrown out the band, there was a lot of press round it and it probably was the last straw for a lot of people

Yeah, Crash & Burn feels more similar to their previous material, rather than the dancey poppy party time songs like Get Sexy (which I do like)

As I said in that other thread, I am not willing to let go of Sugababes so easily and I am gonna hope that this era is good for them. Even IF it doesn't sell well, if I get to enjoy one last album from them then I will be happy.

  • 4 weeks later...

In a recent interview, Amelle spoke about the project and suggested that it may happen next year

Will we ever get to see a Heidi, Amelle and Jade reunion?

I think so. We’re still talking about it at the moment. We all wanted to venture into our own things since we all had our little projects in our mind but also in our heads we have been thinking that we’re going to get back together. Even when I’m in the studio writing, there’s definitely a couple that I think “oh, that would be good for us,” as in us three. So I’ll put a couple of tracks to one side. I’m pretty sure it will happen by kind-of next year.

I'm really excited for 4.0 to come back. I'm sure they will. Successful or not.

I just wish they'd drop the "Sugababes" name already and start fresh. Not because they're not original members, but because they'd just gain a lot of respect from the media and MKS fans, I would think.

According to an "insider" on Popjustice forums that has apparently been right about a few things before according to another poster has said that "big news coming in next couple of days about Sugababes V.4.0 ... everything will come to light. By Friday I imagine."

I imagine if this is true that it is likely to be an announcement of the band splitting up, but it seems strange that they would bother doing that now. I hope somehow that it is something to do with new music but I know that is 99% not going to happen.

Maybe they'll announce a greatest hits collection or something?

There's no point sticking About You Now onto the end of Overloaded though.

I wonder if they've signed a deal? I can see them splitting though, that's very likely. I can also see them announcing a 'final' album/tour to try and finish on a high note.

I hope they won't split up!! And if they do I want MKS to take the name Sugababes. I don't care how much that name has been dragged through the mud. It's a name that should live on
Apparently there will not be any news according to another poster on that thread on Popjustice who seems to be very reliable.

At this point I've lost any interest in a new 4.0 album, I'd much rather get a final Hits collection to sum up Heidi's their career.

And this is the headline story on Digital Spy tonight...

Exclusive: Sugababes are "pretty much done", Jade Ewen reveals

Jade Ewen has told Digital Spy that the Sugababes are "pretty much done". The singer confessed that she can't see herself ever returning to the studio with Heidi Range and Amelle Berrabah, and has been working on solo material.

Speaking to DS at the recent BMW i3 launch, Ewen admitted: "I don't even know if the band stuff is going to happen again, if I'm completely honest.

"I think Amelle wants to do her own solo stuff, Heidi is doing a Happy Days musical... I think we're pretty much done.

"I'm working on solo material at the moment actually. It's only come about in the past three weeks, so it's quite a new project.

"No-one's really seen me yet. I sang for Eurovision, I've been in a band, but I don't think anyone really knows what I'm about."

Ewen added that she wants the current Sugababes line-up, who went on hiatus in 2011 after releasing their album Sweet 7, to go on tour with original band members Mutya Buena, Keisha Buchanan and Siobhan Donaghy, who are now performing as MKS.

"I would love to do a giant tour of all the Sugababes, old lineup and new lineup," she said. "That would be awesome, it would sell out.

"That's easy for me to say though, I don't know how that would go down [with the other girls]. But I'm definitely up for it."

Berrabah claimed back in May that the Sugababes were thinking about recording new music in 2014.

:snif: Such a shame but I think we all knew that it was unlikely we would get a new album. I'd love a final greatest hits collection along with a final single with all 6 members and then a final tour as Jade suggests in the article, but I guess that won't be able to happen until MKS finish releasing music.

Heidi and Amelle are going to be fine with their solo careers it seems but I do hope Jade is able to have a solo career somehow especially after she gave up a solo career to join the Sugababes. The songs we heard from that original album of hers were fantastic and 'Punching Out' which was rumoured to be the second single in particular could have been a very decent-sized hit in my opinion.
