I'd hardly say Amelle is overweight.

I did see her in hmv maybe less than two weeks ago, and she was bigger, but not overweight certainly.

Sugababes newcomer Jade Ewen has claimed that the band is not in competition with former member Keisha Buchanan.

The girl group are currently recording songs for the follow-up to their last album Sweet 7, while Buchanan is also busy in the studio working on her debut solo disc.

However, speaking to Bang Showbiz, Ewen insisted: "Keisha is a solo artist and we're a group so we're not in competition with each other at all. That would be ridiculous - I've never even met her."

Meanwhile, Ewen's bandmate Amelle Berrabah hinted that the next Sugababes LP will see a mix of the old and the new.

She said: "We're keeping to our Sugababes sound but we're also hoping to try new things too."

Buchanan was ousted from Sugababes last September after 11 years in the band. Ewen was recruited as her replacement.

Sounds very promising, I like them experimenting, but I still want some old school Freak, PTB, AYN :w00t:

I hope the experimenting is really experimenting... and not following the charts anymore. I'm really curious what these new babes can do.
Yeh I would love them to do something really differant I saw this great african perfromer at glastonbury femi Kuti (african singer with band) and sounded amazing. I would love for them to work with someone like that mixed with some more duby beats.

As much as I thought Sweet 7 was actually Sugababes' strongest album to-date, they definitely have to step far away from that sound because it was obviously not album selling enough and not what fans wanted.

They have to realise that this is their last chance because if the lead single for this is not smash worthy and at the same Sugababes-sounding, the group is done.

Jade has an epic voice but fans have not warmed that much to her at all for her to be able to take lead on the album which is something that worries me. Amelle and Heidi especially, should be more in the spotlight, Jade literally had lead on all the album tracks from Sweet 7, which is maybe why it sold so little? Jade does not have a unique, distinctive voice like Amelle or Heidi for the public to recognise that it's actually a Sugababes song IMHO.

Oh and RedOne, The Smeezingtons please stay away. This comeback has to be big, original, not generic and most of all Sugababes sounding. And that is anything but what Red and The Smeezingtons brought out in the 'Babes on Sweet 7.

Jade had the lead because Keisha had the lead.....

I know, part of my point. So Jade having the lead again on the next album again is definitely going to make it one massive-selling album. :kink: She needs to take the back seat Amelle took on the Change album for the next album to work otherwise its Sweet 7 all over again.

Amelle had the best parts on Change  . That's why she was my fav. Sugababes during the Change and C+S area. She kinda ruined it with this area.. actually they kinda all ruined it.

Keisha didnt always have the lead. Amelle had the lead in Red Dress, Wear My Kiss and Get sexy

I didn't realise Red Dress was on Sweet 7, nor that i was talking in general instead of the specific tracks Jade had lead on. Silly me :drama:

The difference was Amelle has a unique voice and she actually brought something to the table when she became a Sugababe. Jade has a very generic and un-unique voice and instead of bringing something to the table she's just filling the parts Keisha had - the high notes and dominant vocals on the chorus.

LMFAO.

Yes she was just filling in the parts Keisha had i think that is pretty obvious as Keisha sang them in the first place, same for Amelle on the few Taller tracks.

And why the LMFAO?

Wow it's been a while!

Why would Keisha having originally recoeded it affect the charting if none of her vocals feature on the released version of the album? Leaking doesn't really have a big effect, the people who ilegally download it either can't wait for it and would buy it, or never had any intention of buying it anyway. These can't be excuses for it barely crossing 20k in total sales.

I don't deny Jade is a fantastic talent and by far and away the best 'vocalist' they've ever had, but she doesn't fit in as a Sugababe. I just really do not see a way they can recover from the situation they're currently in, no matter what they release or what sound they go for.

THIS. SO MUCH!

The problem is their recent songs just havent been upto the standard of some of their earlier classic hits and I think the change in line up has diluted their appeal and popularity

AND THIS!

Don't do another campaign this year girls. Take some proper time and come back next year. Preferably with a new name (after the legal challenge is ruled in favour of Mutya and 1.0). They'll never be huge and unique the way the babes were before though

I just can't enjoy them anymore.

I never play Jade's 'About a Girl' instead I will ALWAYS choose the Keisha version. She hasn't worked for me AT ALL. I don't dislike her or anything but it just doesn't work. It isn't the Sugababes anymore. I think this is what most the general public also think. Three top 10s and they sold under 20k?! That's humiliating in itself. I don't think they'll recover.

it'll be interesting to see what they do. i think they would be better off trying to launch BEFORE keisha does, because i'm pretty sure the bulk of keisha's campaign will be her bad-mouthing the girls, which will help to further alienate them from the general public. So, if they launch before that they might be able to avoid some of that cattiness....

Um, and why would you think that exactly? Since it happened Keisha has kept her mouth shut and it's worked in her favour, alot of the girls' downfall has been THEIR failure to shut the f*** up and move on..

So you think Keisha won't talk about it when she is promoting? That would be a miracle. She'll turn it all to use it as an advantage to help sales.
