Tight fit (one man and two women) began their short hit-making career by taking the first medley into the UK top five in 1981. The follow-up second medley was actually a series of mini-medleys, beginning with six Four Seasons songs, followed by five Hollies songs, three Herman's Hermits songs, two Dave Dee Dozy Beaky Mick and Tich songs and ending with four Searchers songs. Cleverly designed, this second medley was only a minor UK hit.

Their next single, a revival of Lion sleeps tonight (sometimes known as Wimoweh) gave them their only number one UK hit.

I used to love the blonde fit girl for some reason  I like The Lion Sleeps Tonight, and now I'm humming the single in my head

They didn't sing on the record either. It was their producer who did.

The bloke who originally recorded and wrote that song (or the 'Mbube' version of it anyway) was this African guy called Solomon Linda in 1939. Despite the many cover versions the total royalties he got for that song were a few shillings as a wage. He died in poverty of renal failure in 1962.

The first version to have The Lion Sleeps Tonight lyrics added to it was The Tokens US Number 1 from 1961, which reached number 11 over here.

Yes this was in the news just a few weeks about the african guy from south africa. i think a big case has just been settled where his family will receive loads of wonga in lost royalties.

this looks like a porno

The three people you see in Tight Fit didn't perform on the song, it was actually the drummer from City Boy (5-7-0-5) who sang the song. The three guys (Luigo Peretti, Hugo Creatore & George David Wiess) who added English lyrics to it in 1962, also had written Can't Help Falling In Love, a hit for Elvis. Karl Denver also took a version of the song under its original title wimweh, into the top 10 in 1962.

I knew the male did not sing vocals (a la Boney M/Milli Vanilli) on it but I thought the two girls did provide BVs.

Fact: The brunette became Mrs Pete Waterman (although I think they have since divorced).

I used to love Fantasy Island!

Everybody sing along now:

FANTASY ISLAND

Tight Fit

I had a dream, there was a rainbow,

Over the mountains, over the sea

Just you and me, we were go walking together,

Watching the sunrise over the trees

Wa-Oo-Wa-Oo-Wa

Wa-Oo-Wa-Oo

Fantasy Island, you know we have a dream but

True love, holding us together

Starshine, Fantasy Island

You know I wish that we could stay like this forever

Fantasy Island, you know we have a dream but

True love, holding us together

Star shine, Fantasy Island

You know I wish that we could stay like this forever

People like me, can always believe in

Love on an island surrounded by sea

We had a dream, of love never liven

But I know that love can't live in a dream

Wa-Oo-Wa-Oo-Wa

Wa-Oo-Wa-Oo

Fantasy Island, you know we have a dream but

True love, holding us together

Star shine, Fantasy Island

You know I wish that we could stay like this forever

Fantasy Island, you know we have a dream but

True love, holding us together

Star shine, Fantasy Island

You know I wish that we could stay like this forever

A-ha, have it all seems like magic (Have it all seems like magic)

Oh yeah (A-ha)

Dreams can come true (Dreams can come true), (Dreams can come true-oo)

Fantasy Island, you know we have a dream but

True love, holding us together

Star shine, Fantasy Island

You know I wish that we could stay like this forever

Fantasy Island, you know we have a dream but

True love, holding us together

Star shine, Fantasy Island

You know I wish that we could stay like this forever

Fantasy Island, you know we have a dream but

True love, holding us together

Star shine, Fantasy Island

You know I wish that we could stay like this forever

Fantasy Island, you know we have a dream...

This was miles better than the Lion Sleeps Tonight in a sub-Abba way.
