Not retro, but crap. To be honest you will be hard pushed to find many followers in here, but good luck. Any closet Bolton fans out there....... anywhere.........nope, I didn't think so.

I dont know....

People are willing to listen to $h!t. They'd probably love Michael Bolton if they got the chance.

That's EXACTLY what I was going to post! :heehee: No seriously, word for word!

Michael Bolton - the Pat Sharp of MOR? The premium Curtis Stigers? No thanks, but others might, you never know.

I think he's quite comical really. I think 'Can I Touch You................ There?' is his biggest achievement, I love the way he 'climaxes' in the chorus.

Any Mike, no you cannot touch me 'there'.

I would not say that Bolton is rubbish, even though he is not an artist that I particularly like. In fact, for many years, I would have likened him to a ‘honking gut-bucket’, though I would have come to this conclusion believing that a certain taste in music would have increased my social standing at school rather than knowing what would be regarded as a technically accomplished standard of singing. As I would guess that Bolton would be the kind of artist with many Grammy awards and nominations in his lifetime, I suppose he must have some talent and cannot be totally useless.

In regards to his cultural status, I would say that when viewed from a UK perspective Bolton would be considered as ‘retro’ as it seems that his role in British culture has been now superseded by that of Chad Kroeger [that is a singer from North America with bad hair, of which many consumers in the United Kingdom seem to regard as being ‘unsophisticated’ entertainment that only the Americans could enjoy].

Loz

It was the bald-on-top-but-lustrous-mullet look I always found so...appealing.

I mean, seriously, there's only Saline Dion to rival him in the vile ratings, isn't there?

Well he's been around for over 20 years now so i guess he's old stuff can be considered retro.

Love him or hate him, he has had a successful career.

On his more recent album, he did a track with Lady Gaga called Murder My Heart.

Urgh!!! :puke:

My older brother, for some bizarre reason, bought his album 'Love, Sex And Tenderness' (I think it was called) and even though I must've only been 10 years old at the time, it irritated me that every track had a key change. Apparantly key changes are supposed to lift a persons mood. Not in Michael Bolton's case. His key changes made me want to throw the stereo out of the window. Horrid, and people slag off Nickelabck.

Nickelback >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Michael Bolton

That would be TIME, LOVE & TENDERNESS, his 1991 album.

Nickelback are basically Pearl Jam fronted by Micheal Bolton..... A hideous prospect..... :puke2:

Nickelback and Pearl Jam...surely only music middle aged Americans could love.... and the rest of Europe unfortunately. Mindboggling....

Oh come on, Pearl Jam had some decent enough tunes back in the day (nowhere near in the league of Tad, Mudhoney, Alice In Chains or Soundgarden though)... Nickelcack just came in and ripped them off though....

You seem to criticise Europe's taste, dunno why, that seems to be about the only place that the likes of Client or IAMX can sell records, and Depeche Mode can get a number one, whereas their country of origin, UK, totally disrespects them....

Europe's right about Depeche Mode.... but a casual flick through all mainland Europe's year-end charts makes for horrifying reading, Scott - ghastly old rock acts, Europap and even worse... Euro rap. It makes even Britain's charts seem palatable.

And Pearl Jam... nah.... it was the acceptable face of shoegazing for the Kerrang crowd....

"Shoegazing"?? Not exactly how I would describe Pearl Jam tbh, for ANY crowd, it's always been 'Seattle Grunge' for me, later on becoming more introspective with Vedder showing much more of a Bruce Springsteen influence... Not exactly Ethereal/Dream Pop..... Might interest you to know that Kerrang were actually fairly regularly featuring the likes of U2, Sisters of Mercy, The Mission and Simple Minds back in the day... Seem to remember an article they did on Radiohead too when they started out....

I think I'd take Finland's/Scandinavia/Germany's charts over the UK's anytime..... Also the fact that acts that are considered "underground" here in UK, are playing in very big arenas in the likes of Germany... Take Combichrist for example, here, they play toilets like the Camden Underworld, Germany, they play 10,000 capacity arenas.... And virtually no one in UK has even heard of genres such as EBM, Mitelalter or NDH.....

Pearl Jam were the 'rock' act the indie crowd dared to admit liking.... despite their unutterably tedious output. They'll always be lumped in that musically-dead era of the middle half of the 90s for me, anyway - faceless, nameless 'whatever' muzak. Although even I admit 'Jeremy' was almost listenable.
