OK so it's review time...

This CD has no title or at least if it has I can't find it but I think we've established earlier who's it was. It does have all the artists and titles left in but as I only knew two of the acts it wasn't an issue with prejudice at all for the most part.

Anyway here goes

1. Aslan - Jealous Little Thing - Promising start to this cd with this melodic Indie track. Decent vocals and a distinctive celtic feel to the band. It's not groundbreaking but it is going to make it's way onto my mp3 player. Not sure why but it kind of reminds me of Goodbye Mr Mackenzie in places.

2. Mundy - Meicsiseo - Acoustic ballad sung in language I can't recognise but at times sounds Hispanic There a strong Irish feel to this track too. I don't mind this but understanding the words would probably improve my feelings for this track. I have no problem with foreign language music but when the song is clearly lyric heavy it helps.

3. Miss Li - Oh Boy - This is insanely fun and catchy. At first i thought the singer would be Canadian. No idea why. Lots of jazzy stuff going on towards the end and this kind of reminded me of Imelda May. Liked this one. I'll keep it.

4. Master Shortie - Bringing It Back - Change of tone no with a modern sounding UK r&b type track. It's not awful but this sort of thing usually leaves me cold and the same can be said here.

5. Juliet Turner - Business As Usual - Acoustic female vocal and guitar track of the kind there are so many about. This could be Lene Marlin or Suzanne Vega orany number of similar acts. it's Ok but I can't really get any more enthusiastic about it.

6. Blizzards - Trouble - This stood out for me the most on first listen and still I think it is the most interesting track. It's drum and guitar propelled power pop with Indie overtones and a slight nod to punk. A chanted chorus and some quirky lines that kind of bring to mind The Futureheads. Mp3 player bound for sure.

7. Christophe Mae - Dingue Dingue Dingue - Initially reminds me of Tracy Chapman stylistically but sung in French. Ok but I can't get the idea of it being a less cheesy Eurovision entry out of my head.

8. Hall And Oates - You Make My Dreams Come True - One of the two artists who's name lept out at me imediately and sadly that was accompanied by a feeling of horror. Thankfully that wasn't indicative of the whole cd and even though I'll never be a fan of these two this isn't the worst thing they've ever done. I was pleasantly surprised that this wasn't as bad as I feared. That said I'm not keen on it at all.

9. Republic Of Loose - Idiots - Minimalist drum beats and an intriguing atmosphere initially but not sure about the vocals. It kind of follows on from Hall & Oates quite well as it has a definate 80s feel to it. Interesting but not exciting

10. Pony Pony Run Run - Hey You - Modern sounding 80s lovefest again. It's Ok and whilst I could quite happily listen to it, it's not something I'm likely to investigate further. OK

11. Travega - Bull Run - This was another that stood out on first listen and I still like this. Shades of a early 80s interest again mixed with a post brit pop sound. Another keeper. The vocals really remind me of some other band I can't think of.

12. NWA - Gimme That Nut - The other track I'd heard of and a track I already knew. Not so much an NWA track as one of Eazy-E's solo efforts labelled as NWA and also one of his 'sexual songs'. Not comparable to the likes of Express Yourself, or Straight Out Of Compton but then little hip hop is,and not as good or funny as Automoblie or Just Don't Bite It. OK but fun.

13. Something A La Mode - Rondo Parisiano - Electronic French sampling track that has a quirky 1950s UFO noise type effect going on in places and I don't mind this. It's not too obvious and has enough charm aboiut it to make it worth hearing again.

So to sum up, there was a very noticeable Irish, French feel throughout this cd which intially gave me some guesses as to whos cd it was but. I did think Ephemere (is he on here, called that?) and I briefly toyed with it being Brett Butler or Tonyttt31s but I figured I'd probably be more familiar with the artists on their cds. As it turns out CianS has suggested it's his and I'd never have guessed that. There are at least 4 tracks I'll definately keep and a couple more I might persist with to see if their are further rewards. I'm not certain I was the ideal recipient for this but there's enough similarity in taste that it isn't a mismatch.

So for those songs I thank you and you can consider it a job well done.

I'm Glad You Got Some new Songs Out Of It, and Apologies agian for the Titles :drama:

Meicsiceo was sung in Irish. And as you might of guessed, i used this CD to spread Irish Talent as The Blizzards, Mundy, Aslan, Republic Of loose,Juliet Turner And Travega are all Irish, if You liked Trouble, I would definetly recommend listening to more of The Blizzards. But i knew other Irish people were taking part so i had to put something on for everyone :D

Cian, would you mind sending me a link to your album please? :D

SALM

Chequerboard is the most amazing irish artist at the moment - more of which later. Although he hasn't released an album in over 2 years.
I think i'm like the only person who still has to post the review and we're only 1 week in  Oh wait Ben didn't do it either! :o
nah i still need to do a review aswell Pavel. But I have an exam tomorrow so wont be until at least after that.
I'm also due to post my review but it looks like it'll be next week by the time I've listened to the song and wrote up my review. Then I'll just copy and paste it here. ^_^

"Spirits & Tall Tales"

1. A nice enough folky song to start off with. I do like this but I'd like it a lot more if the vocals weren't as distorted. 6/10

2. I like this a lot. The music sounds a little like Royksopp I think, the instrumental part is brilliant but it ends too soon. 8/10

3. This sounds like early (earlier) Animal Collective. If it is then like most pre 'Strawberry Jam' songs I've heard, I like this but wouldn't want to listen to to much of it. 7/10

4. I've no idea what or who this is but it's definitely the best song so far. I love the noises throughout. 9/10

5. Most of the songs on here are reasonably short but at 7 minutes this is easily the longest one. It starts off well but I'm not keen on the vocal at all, sounds like a cat squeeling at around 3 minutes. It's decent enough though to sustain my interest throughout. 5/10

6. After the last song this one starts off like it's going to be a lot more poppy with a superb into, and it it is a bit. The female vocal sounds very familiar but I can't put a finger on who it is which is quite annoying as I really like this. 9/10

7. The Postal Service 'Nothing Better'. I'm not sure whether to be surprised or not that this is the only song on this album I recognise. Brilliant song as are all Postal Service songs, one of their best and fits in well on the album. Superb. 10/10

8. Another familiar female vocal that sounds really familiar but I don't know who it is! :( I don't like this one as much, it's pleasant enough though. 6/10

9. Is this Spoon? I don't really like them and this does nothing to change that. I've never liked his voice and the tune is already annoying me after two listens. The only 'bad' track on the album. 2/10

10. If I were to make one criticism of this album it's that there are too many songs where the voice is too distorted. I have absolutely no idea what she's singing and it's a shame as just sounds like a drone and it spoils what sounds like could've been a very good song. 5/10.

11. Now it starts to get good again. I quite like this one and its effects, although it is too much at times and sounds almost like streaming with a dodgy internet connection. 7/10

12. I really like this one. The instrumentation is wonderfully subtle and I adore this guy's vocals. 8/10

13. This sounds a lot like Beach House? Like their album 'Teen Dream' I think this is rather good and it could definitely grow on me a lot. 7/10

14. This was alright but it didn't seem to go anywhere. 4/10

15. This is rather nice, a bit differetn from what's been before, a refreshing change. 7/10

16. Oh this is excellent. A brilliant intro which continues throughout the song. Love the spoken vocal too. 8/10

17. A very good song. I think her voice is excellent, it makes the track. 8/10

18. I like this but it perhaps goes on for a bit too long, I'm a tad bored by the end of it. 6/10

19. A decent enough track but the album has tailed off a bit towards the end, not too keen on the vocal. 5/10

20. It's "Oh What A Glorious Thing" by Akira the Don! Or it's not, it's just sampled the intro. I wasn't sure on this to start with but it's a nice use of the sample, lovely and acoustic. 8/10

Overall I'd probably give this about 7.5/10. I certainly enjoyed it and there's 6 or 7 artists I'm intriuged to hear more of and I did like most of it. I was definitely pleased there was only one song I knew. I reckon there would've been other people here who'd like this more, in places it's perhaps a little bit too far US Indie with good Metacritic ratings for my liking... :)

Yeah haha, I figured a lot of it would be a little too lo-fi and distorted for your tastes. It's purposefully done that way. <3 I dunno; I love nostalgia and distortion and lo-finess makes me think of that. I'm still glad you enjoyed a lot of it though! Here's the tracklisting:

01 Woods 'Ring Me to Sleep'

02 Washed Out 'Hold Out'

03 Animal Collective 'We Tigers'

04 Gold Panda 'You'

05 Ponytail 'Celebrate the Body Electric (It Came From an Angel)

06 Cold Cave 'Life Magazine'

07 The Postal Service 'Nothing Better'

08 Mountain Man 'Animal Tracks'

09 Spoon 'The Way We Get By'

10 Best Coast 'Sun Was High (So Was I)'

11 Pictureplane 'Goth Star'

12 Baths 'Palatial Dissapointment'

13 Beach House 'Gila'

14 Parenthetical Girls 'A Song for Ellie Greenwich'

15 Xiu Xiu 'Save Me Save Me'

16 The Mountain Goats 'Dilaudid'

17 Neko Case 'Hold On, Hold On'

18 The Middle East 'Blood'

19 The Walkmen 'We've Been Had'

20 Nico 'These Days'

The basic concept was this transition from innocence to jadedness (kind of like a child growing up), experimenting with drugs etcetc and teenage thingzz, and then coming to this sort of maturity at the end.

Oh, and Akira the Don sampled Nico. :P These Days came out in the 60s.

Thanxx for the review. <3

I did a search on Google for Akira but couldn't find anything so I assumed it would've been the other way around, especially as the whole CD sounded so recent! :P

"Joyce" [sorry it's not a lengthy review, but now is the only time where I can write one]

01 // Very Goldfrapp-sounding. The breathy vocals offer a nice touch to the mellow-haunting production. Not going to lie, not the best album starter; it sounds like a filler on an album to me, but still a nice enough track! 06/10

02 // This track opens where the first track finished off. Similar production wise, but it compliments the album opener well. However I prefer this due to her quirky accent & vocals, plus it has a dead simple but catchy chorus. Would REALLY like to know what this is! 8/10

03 // LOL! I think I recognise this as that 'Safety Dance' song? Such a random addition to the album! Especially after the first soothing, soft tracks on the album. It's definitely one I'm going to keep on my iTunes, as I've never got round to downloading it! 07/10

04 // I find the track to be very Kate Nash-esque. There's not really that much structure to the song. 05/10

05 // Similar to track one, another Goldfrapp sounding track, with its breathy soft vocals and harmonious structure. Again, not very appealing to my sort of music taste. 06/10

06 // I nice instrumental/interlude(?). It's has a variety of different music styles, especially when it turns a bit electro in the middle alongside the violins(?). Much better than something on any Pendulum album! 07.5/10

07 // Is it Muse? I don't have a clue, but I REALLY like it. It's more darker than all the tracks on the album so far. 8.5/10

08 // Eek. A non-English track! Surprisingly though, It's not too bad. I've always been hesitant to non-english singers, the furthest that I can bear is Shakira's 'Ojos Asi'. <3 But anyway, this is a nice hindu-summer type track. I may be wrong but it's the feeling I get from the track. 07/10

09 // One of my most favourite tracks on the album! It sounds like Bjork on acid! It could be, but I'm really intrigued to know what it is. It has crazy vocals and sublime production, the thunderous drums and dirty synths. Loves it. <3 9.5/10

10 // Didn't really connect with this until it picked up. It has a nice rock/pop essence quality to it. And I like the Bono-style vocals to. 07/10

11 // Being honest, I only really like the stuttering Xylophone(?) beat. The vocals aren't that interesting and the song sounds pretty fillerish. It goes well with track 10 however. 5.5/10

12 // It's in similar vain to track 10 & 11, just more interesting and a bit more upbeat, even if it is pretty slow. Another one I'm interested in finding out who it is by. 08/10

13 // The two voices compliment each other really nicely. It's a pretty nice American track (I'm guessing it's American by the accent and lyrics :L ). The soft electric guitars are charming. 8.5/10

14 // When it first started, I thought it was a football track! :L But then the beat really got in alongside the synths. It sounds incredibly 80's. It's a really decent face-paced track. 08/10

15 // hahaaaa this gives it all away! It's The Corrs! Andrea Corr has such a good voice, it's a shame she lets it go to waste on songs like this - not that this is bad! The chorus is memorable and the production is nifty, but all their songs sound the same. Didn't think I'd like it, but I'm surprised that I do! 07/10

16 // It reminds me of a Sinead O'Connor-style song, except for the vocals. I'm not hooked straight away; it's pretty forgettable except for the fact the she woman is a really good singer. 06/10

17 // A nice touch to finish of the album with an orchestral piece. Not as good as track six, but like I put, it's a good way to finish of the album. 5/5

Overall // 07/10 [According to my trusty calculator! :o ]

A decent album! Quite a few slow tracks, but track nine is a stomper of a song! And I'd really like to know what tracks two, seven & thirteen are! Definitely ones that will be staying in my iTunes Library. And I have a hunch that this may be Shoats album? :heehee: It's very 80's & 90's sounding and plus it features a Corrs track :heehee:

Review: 'Now That's What I Call... Tunes!'

01. The Cocteau Twins... now despite owning several of their albums, I always have no idea what the track titles are. Though the band aren't really about titles I guess, I like this one and I'm fairly certain it's from Four Calendar Cafe.

Favourite moment: 2:36 when Elizabeth Fraser does one of her typical tricks that makes her vocals so darn hypnotic.

02. The Cranberries 'No Need To Argue'. The title track from their second album (the only one I own!) - I always liked this and I haven't heard it in a very (very very very) long time. Weird how far from the spotlight they fell considering how huge they were for a while.

Favourite moment: 1:06 when Delores' vocal comes back in with the ooos and organ behind it.

03. Alison Moyet 'This House'. At this stage I was thinking this was thisispop's album (although I changed my mind by the end). Anyway, this is an incredible track, my favourite single of hers and I think it's aged very well. Great inclusion.

Favourite moment: 1:00 when the chorus kicks in for the first time.

04. Dusty Springfield 'The Look Of Love'. Ahhhhh Dusty, I named my kitten after her. It died too soon also. The Pet Shop Boys didn't come to rescue her and give her a second chance either. bast*rds. :( Anyway, obviously this is impeccable.

Favourite moment: 0:00 thaaaattttt voice.

05. Declan O'Rourke 'Galileo'. This is the only song of his I've ever heard but it's a beautiful and traditional song that more people should know.

Favourite moment: 1:30 when he goes into the "love can make you ask so many questions" section before reverting back to the beauty of the verses.

06. Blur 'Sweet Song'. This is interesting as I'm enjoying it more than I thought I would when it started, I've always found it drab on the album but it sort of fits in here away from any experimental leanings.

Favourite moment: 3:04 when the moment of almost optimism comes across in Damon's vocal before the drone begins to sweep everything away.

07. I love this song. I have no idea what it is either! It sounds like I should know it but I don't think I do, reminds me of Four Tet maybe? Instrumentals really get to me when they're done this well and this one actually sends shivers down my spine when I listen to it - this CD is worth it for this alone.

Favourite moment: 0:45 when I get the first shiver...

08. Interpol 'Hands Away'. I love Interpol, especially the first album which this is taken from. Easily one of my favourites of the 00s so far. Good choice as this follows really well from the last track whilst completely changing the genre of the CD.

Favourite moment: 2:10 and the synths/strings are here!

09. Editors... I can't remember which track it is but it's from their latest (and surprisingly decent) album. Whilst I do like it, I can't actually find much to say about it - sorry!

Favourite moment: 0:00 the intro

10. Depeche Mode 'The Things You Said'. I haven't listened to this in ages, a good track from Music For The Masses (one of 5 or 6 really quite strong DM albums). Again it's the sequencing here that stands out for me, emphasising the influence on the likes of Editors and the track choice sounds surprisingly modern considering it's mid 80s(ish).

Favourite moment: 1:37 as so often in DM tracks, it's the harmonies between Gore and Gahan that work so well...

11. Bloc Party 'Better Than Heaven'. A track from Intimacy, it's around this mark that I suspected that my CD was from Tony. If so, I share his view that Intimacy was a lot better than people gave it credit for and it stands as my favourite BP album too.

Favourite moment: 0:22 the throwaway 'such a laugh'

12. Garbage 'A Stroke Of Luck'. Their debut is without doubt their best album, anyone who says 2.0 is wrong. Anyone who says any of the others is delusional. This is typical of them at their best with the sultry goth style vocals with a subtle yet memorable hook. You could have inserted Vow, As Heaven Is Wide or My Lover's Box here and I would have been just as happy.

Favourite moment: 1:03 when the bridge arrives to perfectly build up to the chorus

13. Massive Attack 'Risingson'. One of my favourite singles of theirs and a definite high point of their career to date. Mezzanine is also their best album to these ears, Group 4 being my other highlight. I like the Underdog mix to this track too.

Favourite moment: 2.35 when it all begins to kick back in again

14. Neneh Cherry 'Manchild'. Another solid choice here and, even better, one that I don't already own - although I really should do by now, there is no excuse.

Favourite moment: 1:55 has always been the highlight for me, 'From Monday to Friday...' (the rap immediately after sounds dated now though)

15. A Guy Called Gerald 'Voodoo Ray'. Classic up next, hopefully shouldn't need any introduction to anyone. I have only ever heard this once in a club and it just sounded amazing, it was 10 years or so after release and it wiped the floor with everything that had proceeded it.

Favourite moment: 0:17 when the vocal layers first come together

16. I recognise the vocalist here but I can't place him at all. This reminds me of Smashing Pumpkins at their most fragile with a great beat over it, something from about 9 or 10 years ago maybe? I'm liking this a lot and I suspect I ought to get the album by whoever it is... lots of talk about picking up the phone so I'm guessing that's the obvious title maybe?

Favourite moment: 0:16 when the best first kicks in and I realised I was going to love this...

17. Del Amitri 'Nothing Ever Happens'. Another song I haven't heard in an absolute age. This is so much better than I remember it, I used to think it was boring dad music when it was out (so I guess I'm now a boring dad type of age!) but this is really quite nice. A song to sway to methinks.

Favourite moment: 0:35 and the first uttering that we'll all be lonely tonight and lonely tomorrow...

18. A longer intro to this one than many of the others... not recognising it so far. Hmmmm, sounds very American but not in the usual way that I would like. Kinda like a soft version of Blink 182, it's okay but not something that is going to keep me coming back for more plays. This is the most generic thing on here so far to me.

Favourite moment: 1:05 when the intro finishes slowly building and the vocal begins

19. Another noisier one, the album seems to have steadily grown and adapted in mood as we began with the soft ballads, through dance influenced tracks and trip hop before we seem to be ending on out and out rock. This is better than the last one but again I have no idea who it is although the vocal does sound slightly familiar. It's okay. (edit - it's getting better on second listen and I'm intrigued to know who it is)

Favourite moment: 0:11 when the riff kicks in for the first time

20. Manic Street Preachers 'Die In The Summertime'. This is more my sort of thing, taken from the fantastic Holy Bible (easily their best album for me). Confirming my suspicions that this is probably Tony's compilation. I'm actually a relative newcomer to this, I only got the album upon the expanded reissue but it deserves all the praise it regularly gets... great track and ending on a high after the last two.

Favourite moment: 2:21 and it's the guitar solo, although the vocals pretty much match it too...

Thank you to the compiler (I'm still guessing Tony but await the reveal) as this compilation clearly had a lot of thought put into the tracklisting and sequencing. Everything flows really well from one track to the next and it does take you through a fairly wide variety of genres along the way. My favourite discoveries are most definitely tracks 7 and 16 which I will be transferring to my ipod as soon as I can correctly tag them! Obviously there's a lot here that I already know but I didn't actually end up minding that, it played like a reminder of some great songs that I haven't taken the time to listen to enough of late so thank you again. As I said earlier in the thread, it's a shame in a way that this came to me as there would have been lots of good stuff here for some of the other members to discover - I hope you're not disappointed.

20 Nico 'These Days'

 for this. And for The Royal Tenenbaums while I'm at it.

Two of your tracks were so close to making my list, namely Gold Panda and Pictureplane.

Review: 'Now That's What I Call... Tunes!'

01. The Cocteau Twins - Bluebeard

02. The Cranberries 'No Need To Argue'.

03. Alison Moyet 'This House'.

04. Dusty Springfield 'The Look Of Love'.

05. Declan O'Rourke 'Galileo'.

06. Blur 'Sweet Song'.

07. Chequerboard - Skating Couple

08. Interpol 'Hands Away'.

09. Editors - The Boxer

10. Depeche Mode 'The Things You Said'

11. Bloc Party 'Better Than Heaven'.

12. Garbage 'A Stroke Of Luck'.

13. Massive Attack 'Risingson'.

14. Neneh Cherry 'Manchild'.

15. A Guy Called Gerald 'Voodoo Ray'.

16. The Notwist - Pick Up the Phone

17. Del Amitri 'Nothing Ever Happens'.

18. Jimmy Eat World - Get it Faster

19. My Vitriol - Always Your Way

20. Manic Street Preachers 'Die In The Summertime'

This is a very weird experience. When I was putting this together I actually had you in mind and my sense should have taken over and pointed out that you would have already owned more than half of the tracks on it. But I reasoned that the chances of you getting it would be slim.

When I first saw that you received "Now that's what I call tunes!" I was secretly delighted. For one I knew you'd love nearly all the songs on it and that would mean I'd get a great review. :) - plus you typed out most of the songs titles and nearly all of the artists - thanks.

But that gave way to a sort of shame or regret because you'd have received a dud of sorts - like getting a copy of a Now album that you already own - not much chance of new discoveries. :(

But then I realised that I had sequenced it amazingly well (modest, eh?) and that might make the whole thing more playable as a compilation. :)

I have to say of all the compilations created in this thread mine has been the most conservative - this was kind of a reaction to the one I made for someone on CHC, it was 15 or so instrumentals and wasn't a very fair offering and incredibly hard to review for the poor soul who got it.

I'll try much harder next time to get the balance right.

On the music itself - I recommend going back and listening to the Editors track and imagine it as a heartbreaking PSB ballad from the late 80s. The construction and lyrical content are very PSB.

HET30: A Review

Not sure of what the significance of the name ‘HET30,’ but it’s a lovely cover you’ve made for it. Anyway, to the tunes:

Track 1: A nice acoustic song with strings to break us in. Just as I begin to enjoy this, the vocals came in, revealing this to be in another language (possibly Spanish I recognise the phrase ‘Salva Mia.’) It sounds like a middle aged woman is singing on this track. I enjoy the backing track though.

Track 2: More of the same, strings and acoustics, with some harsher drum beats this time. Boy/girl vocals as well, it sounds like a Eurovision song from one of the former Yugoslavian countries. The chorus is very infectious, even if it does remind me slightly of One and One by Robert Miles.

Track 3: And we’re back to songs in non-English (I think it’s Italian this time). There’s nothing exciting about this track I’m afraid, it just seems a bit flat.

Track 4: The 2nd track in as many with a vocalist that seems to be influenced by Matt Bellamy. The operatic backing singers do lift the song a bit, and I do like the crescendo at the end, but the song doesn’t really do much to excite me.

Track 5: Ooh, guitar slapping, mixed with Spanish vocals, male and female. Not really digging this I’m afraid.

Track 6: Another track in a foreign language (can’t place the country this time though). This sounds like it would be the theme for snooker in one of the Slavic countries.

Track 7: This song reminds me a little of the Low Anthem, whom I love. Lovely, warm harmonies, I could imagine this being used in a mobile phone advert. Me likee. They sound Irish, although hopefully they’re not, as I’ll have no excuse for never have heard it before.

Track 8: This sounds like Alexandra Burke. Now I’m not really a fan of her (don’t lynch me, please), but this is a very nice song, with lovely deep bass. Wouldn’t convert me to the ways of the Burke though.

Track 9: Soul music firmly in the Amy Whitehouse/Mark Ronson mould, not a million miles away from ‘Tears Dry on their Own.’ Given that I was never a fan of the neo-soul movement, I really enjoyed this song.

Track 10: Scat-like vocals intro, descending into a by-the-numbers pop song. It sounds like an experimental Sugababes b-side. Also, is the guitar in the background playing the riff from Franz Ferdinand’s Take Me Out?

Track 11: This song I recognise, I just don’t know where. Was it used in an advert recently? It reminds me a bit of Eliza Doolittle, sampling old 50s lounge tunes and adding a 21st century pop sheen to them. Surprisingly, I’m really enjoying this.

Track 12: The keyboard riff sounds like ‘Speed of Sound’ by Coldplay. This sounds like JLS. I do not like JLS.

Track 13: At first, I thought this was All Along the Watchtower by Jimi Hendrix. Very singer/songwritery, but not by cup of tea unfortunately.

Track 14: Eurodance next, and in French. I think he’s singing about his crayons, how nouvelle. I can imagine this being given a spit and polish, them being released in UK with English lyrics. It’s very much in the Riverside, Let the Bass Kick…’ mould. Not sure whether to put this in the ‘guilty pleasure’ or ‘utter toss’ category yet, might need a few more listens, at the moment it’s just a smidgeon in the former.

Track 15: All these non-English tracks. And now rapping in a foreign language. I’m really feeling out of my depth here. A very average track

Track 16: 2 languages here. English lead vocals with foreign backing vocals. Nothing really exciting about this I’m afraid.

Track 17: Some rock-style guitar in the intro, so I was hoping for something exciting here. Unfortunately it filters out and descends into a standard Eurodance fare.

Track 18: Is this produced by the same people who produced Inna? It definitely reminds me a lot of that single ‘Hot.’ One of the better songs in the compilation.

Track 19: This sounds like how Aqua would sound circa 2010. Some weird lyrics about cross dressing and parallel universes. A decent song, but nothing exciting about it unfortunately.

Track 20: I really hope that this is not Cascada, because I really enjoyed this song. A really strong synth riff, dancey beats, great vocals and decent lyrics. Not the sort of thing I’d usually listen to, but it’s a great way to finish the compilation.

In conclusion, I feel that I was probably not the ideal person to review this compilation, given that I’m more into indie/alternate music and this compilation had a European/dance feel. Having said that, the tracklist flowed well, and I’m particularly looking forward to finding out who was behind tracks 7, 11 and 20.
