July 27, 201014 yr this is like 4/5 tracks too long and kind of boring :/ the first half of the album runs together and leaves me unimpressed we used to wait and sprawl II are super nice though FOUR FOR YOU, ARCADE FIRE
July 27, 201014 yr Sprawl II does seem indebted to the late 00s trend of indie/electro. Reminds me of The Knife.
July 28, 201014 yr best band ever...? of the decade? or anything... who really cares about it?who reallt cares about the hype? we should be glad to have these days bands like them the only thing i know is that Arcade Fire did it again (3/3) and released an excellent album. already love it with the first listen...
July 28, 201014 yr I think Space puts it well, they arent the best band ever, but we should be glad we have a band who consistently release great albums.
July 28, 201014 yr I think Space puts it well, they arent the best band ever, but we should be glad we have a band who consistently release great albums. there are plenty of other bands who do that too though lol (the mountain goats, the national, xiu xiu, neko case, the new pornographers, woods) and i could literally go on for hours it's not like arcade fire are the only ones with the ability to be consistent like i said, album = a bit of a letdown, too long and only a couple of really great tracks. they need to learn to EDIT. it's better than neon bible though, i think? but i didn't like neon bible.
July 29, 201014 yr This album is SIMPLY SCRUMPTIOUS. I just love those moments where they sound like they did on 'Funeral'. I'm TRULY hearing more of a Montrealan twang in there. Mhm hmm for sure Honeybees!!
August 2, 201014 yr this is a really good review ive just read about the album (independentmusicreviews-paddy.blogspot.com)
August 2, 201014 yr Sprawl II is definitely the highlight on first listen... I do think that 16 tracks and over an hour is a bit too long for an Arcade Fire album.
August 2, 201014 yr Me too, 16 tracks did seem a very long time. There isn't a lot of variety here either, it's all merging into one on first listen. A shame. :( The second half did seem stronger than the first though so maybe it's one to persevere with. Which cover did everyone end up with? I got the one in the bottom left: http://brirob.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/cat_arcade-fire-covers1.jpg Edited August 2, 201014 yr by Dandy*
August 2, 201014 yr I listened to it earlier and it's not bad, but I agree that it is a bit lengthy. Sprawl II and the first two tracks were the best for me, but I'll give it another listen later this week. I think I prefer it to Neon Bible even though that album had more stand out tracks, but I doubt they'll ever top Funeral which was just perfect. And in answer to Dandy's question, I got the top right cover.

Bit dissapointing :( Edited August 2, 201014 yr by Alias
August 2, 201014 yr I got mine off 7Digital and it came with just a black square. The one I got off an old download isn't any of them!
August 2, 201014 yr Oooooo, a black square! :o Is that like the super limited edition or something? :D This has grown on me on second listen, I'm liking Half Light II (No Celebration), The Suburbs, Month Of May, Deep Blue, We Used To Wait and the 2 Sprawls... the section from Modern Man to Half Light I still leaves me cold though.

Half Light II and Deep Blue would be my other favourites. Second best Arcade Fire album? YES I THINK SO. ps - régine's voice is sexy.
August 3, 201014 yr There's lots of really good music on here, somewhere. I don't see the massive love that 'Sprawl II' is getting. 'Modern Man' is my favourite from the first few listens.
