What have you heard today to make you feel proud? Apologies for channelling Heather Small, but I was thinking, considering we have already written off so many of our own entries this year (United Kingdom, Netherlands, France for some, Norway for others) is there one Eurosong from your home country that makes you feel proud of your homeland's history in the contest?

For me it's the UK's 1998 entry Where Are You by Imaani. For all the times that the UK has tried to present an Eurosong as being something different from a regular, well-written pop song with contemporary production, that is exactly what that one was, and this combined with an excellent performance lead to a song which the BBC clearly intended not to win nearly doing just that, and were it not for the juggernaut of Dana International, it surely would have done... I wish we entered more songs like that.

Gina G - Ooh Aah...Just A Little Bit! I'm so pleased that this 90's pop classic and worldwide hit was a UK entry - I just wish it had done better than 8th in the contest :(

Other than that, there's not a lot to be proud of in the last ten years - I guess Jade was a nice moment last year basically saying 'ha Europe - look we can still send a decent song and do well with it!)

I thought this is thread about Eurovision gay parade in Oslo :kink:

Only Alsou in 2000 i'm proud of tbh. Oh and also Serebro, but not that much.

Serebro are something to be proud of. I think Alsou is the first sign of Russia getting away with entering whatever they like and still coming top 3 (though hopefully that's over this year...)

With a year's hindsight though, It's My Time was not a very good song. It was OK, but pure reality-TV-winner schlock. She was an excellent performer though, and it was nice to present something with a bit of class for once, unlike Scooch or Daz...

I love Gina G, but considering how badly she screwed up the live vocal, I wouldn't say it's our proudest moment, though I was proud to see it become an international hit, even in the US...

Alsou was actually my favourite entry in 2000 along with Ines and Charmed - I didn't like anything else there that year much at all. So I don't think it was by default at all, she was very Britney-ish in sound/image and that was the 'in' thing at the time - anyone remember her debut UK single, Before You Love Me? I bought that on single  Got to #27 here iirc.

I still love It's My Time and Jade put in a stellar vocal. I love Scooch and Daz too but I hardly felt pride sending them, moreso great embarrassment, much like the Andy 'dancing disco dad' Abraham of 2008 and indeed Josh this year  We always send cringeworthy acts :( I suppose Jessica Garlick was someone to be proud of - she put in a perfect vocal with a very decent ballad, and finished top 3

I never knew Alsou was released in the UK! :o I remember closing folowing her career, watching/listening/knowing every song/video she releases

Always On My Mind is probably the last song i liked from her, her career went down after that. She had a baby, got OLD etc :kink:

Always On My Mind was on rotation on video channels in the UK circa 2005 but either flopped hard or was never eventually released. Before You Love Me was great though (reached #2 in my personal chart :funky:), I think Kelly Llorenna covered it  *checks* - indeed she did!

She'll cover anything though these days :drama:

What a musical whore :kink:
I wasn't too keen on the song, but Jade Ewen. Just for the fact that she defied all odds and got 5th place.
Jessica Garlick, I just love the no messing note she hits after the first chorus  Fabulous moment, and I guess probably because she's lives like 10 minutes down the road from me too :kink:

Eimear Quinn. 14 years ago. Long time to be without pride. :(

Although, I may have to get back to you on that when Ireland come top 5 next week. :kink:

Alexander Rybak is too obvious of me to pick :P

I would have to agree entirely with this. Had we entered Katie Melua - The Flood, that would likely have been another one. The shine got taken off Jade Ewen for being an utterly generic 'winners' song' track, and the shine got taken off of Jessica Garlick for being accidentally amazing - I doubt the BBC intended to send something spectacular given it just rooted around the bargain bin of reality rejects.

Oh Hai Hold On Be Strong.

I don't know that many, but Satellites has to be a definite cause for National Pride

Norway have too many prides :kink:

The Flood would have been a fantastic entry for us (or Georgia :funky:). The BBC were utter fools to turn it down. Maybe they just said no to Katie Melua without actually hearing the song, as it's not exactly her usual sub-MOR blandfest.

Or likely they were hungry for televoting profits (let's face it, they would've more than covered that pitiful excuse of a national final twice over)

Dustin made me proud to be Irish!........................

No but really, well for me it's songs like The Voice (Eimear Quinn), both of Niamh Kavanaghs songs (In your eyes, It's for you) and also Et Cetera in a way cause it shows we can do more youthful songs too. Can't forget the first time Ireland won with All kinds of everything, it's a sweet song to listen to :)

I listed mostly winners because I don't have a good recollection of irish entries past about 2004 and most irish songs I knew well before then are the winners

Sounds about right, but how many people can really have voted? I didn't bother voting and I always vote in anything Eurovision related! I just didn't care who was singing it, full stop. Josh was clearly the best choice but I didn't feel like wasting money to support him.

It must have cost more to hold rehearsals, organise and stage the show than the costs they recouped surely? It would have been a lot easier and cheaper to accept Katie's offer, or maybe she was too expensive for them, she certainly looks like the type of woman that could drive a hard bargain to get a good deal for herself :heehee:

Katie wanted to enter for us? :o When was that?

I read about Patrick Wolf wanting to submit a song, but completely missed the Katie Melua story :drama:
