May 20, 201015 yr Author I think the biggest fail of ALL TIME in music industry is placing McFly AHEAD of the Scissor Sisters in 2004 :o Having 50 Cent at number 1 2003 makes me puke too.
May 20, 201015 yr It's really weird how WRONG they got it so often :o Nearly every year the more successful artists were lower down.
May 20, 201015 yr Wish they told us the 6-10 positions for this year. And they got Lady GaGa so wrong, only #6 last year
May 20, 201015 yr And they got Lady GaGa so wrong, only #6 last year  The majority of the time is celebrating new UK music, so if they placed Lady GaGa at #1 (such as if they'd placed Owl City at #1 this year) they'd get quite a bit of backlash.
May 20, 201015 yr Ok so arguably the most successful artists in each year were: 2010 1. Ellie Goulding 2009 6. Lady GaGa 2008 2. Duffy 2007 1. Mika 2006 7. Chris Brown 2005 5. Kaiser Chiefs 2004 1. Keane 2003 5. Dizzee Rascal 2006 went a bit wrong, not sure who to pick there... otherwise they've had some good winners and some not so good winners.
May 20, 201015 yr Author Why has this been moved to the "Pop" forum? There's lots of pop acts on there, but there's also some urban and rock acts. I initially put it in the "Retro" forum cause it is a retrospective of the BBC Sound chart.
May 20, 201015 yr The majority of the time is celebrating new UK music, so if they placed Lady GaGa at #1 (such as if they'd placed Owl City at #1 this year) they'd get quite a bit of backlash. I understand, and I guess it's right they have mainly British acts, but Empire Of The Sun was #4 last year, and they're Australian, and they didn't do as well as GaGa, so they did still kind of get it wrong. I guess Ellie Goulding for this year is right, since her album went to #1
May 20, 201015 yr I understand, and I guess it's right they have mainly British acts, but Empire Of The Sun was #4 last year, and they're Australian, and they didn't do as well as GaGa, so they did still kind of get it wrong. Lady GaGa was already a worldwide phenonomen though.
May 20, 201015 yr What happened to Kubb? :lol:God knows  I remember one song, which I actually quite liked and that was 'Grow'. Also, 2006 success in the UK surely went to Corrine & The Feeling as opposed to Chris Brown? Chris didn't really take off here until his last era. One or two hits yeah, but his albums didn't do that well did they?
May 20, 201015 yr GaGa didn't need this win. At all. This list is created to create hype (no matter how it sounds) for the sake of it. Acts need promoting and what else can be implemented but that feature? Also, WOAH at some of the acts out here, i never knew they were in this list. Like Bloc Party. Or Electric Six! :o Runner-ups are much more amazing than winners tbf!
May 20, 201015 yr It isn't one person choosing - it's a cross-section of music industry professionals etc. Some had the sense to realise that GaGa was essentially guaranteed to be huge and didn't need the hype, so didn't list her. Others put her on theirs anyway. Hence the lower position.
May 20, 201015 yr God knows  I remember one song, which I actually quite liked and that was 'Grow'. Urgh, that was dreadful. 'Wicked Soul' however was awesome. Having 50 Cent at number 1 2003 makes me puke too. Which is why I can never take these "sound of..." lists at all seriously. What a talentless twat.
May 21, 201015 yr I completely forgot The Bravery won in 2005 :o Weird to see Clap Your Hands Say Yeah 2nd in 2006, too. Decent enough band but I don't think they had a single chart hit. One interesting thing to think about on these lists (apart from the artists that completely failed) is the artists that didn't really take off in the years they were shortlisted like most of them do, but had their success much later. Just from a quick skim I can spot Wiley, Dizzee Rascal and Plan B who fit into this group. They may be the only ones at the moment. Having 50 Cent at number 1 2003 makes me puke too. And that was a pretty good year too, with Electric Six, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Dizzee Rascal, Interpol and Audio Bullys. God knows how he won over that lot. Edited May 21, 201015 yr by superbossanova
May 21, 201015 yr Let's be honest, 50 Cent doesn't have talent indeed, but he obviously had the most hype around him and potential to be huge. Talent isn't always required. :(
