Number 1. I loved the video. :D

I'm not sure i've ever seen such an emphatic endorsement of a song for #1 here!

However, even leaving aside my well-known antipathy for rap, to me it doesn't seem superior to say, Hot N Cold, which failed to go all the way.

Had I not already seen others reactions to it here, I would have been hard pressed to predict it even for top 5. I can't hear anything in it that hasn't been done before, perhaps better.

That would be largely because it's note-for-note 'TiK ToK' but 5 times worse.

The song itself is so generic but its so much fun so i don't care, the video only highlights that this is simply a song to just be a bit of Summer fun.

The song has been absolutely huge in the us and will probably do the same here :)

Number 1 All the way :)

It's better than the generic urban songs that copy each other or rely heavily on samples, see Tinie Tempah, Professor Green, Dizzee Rascal, Iyaz etc. I think it's refreshing to the current chart climate, which is currently awful imo.

um, it kind of does copy Tik Tok by Kesha- the chorus' sound very similar

Im not saying its bad, its a good tune- but its not very original

EXACTLY. In a music world dominated by a certain Lady who's just been way too much into "OOH I'M SO SO DARK AND OOOH MY WORK IS SO MEANINGFUL AND DEEP" (the same girl who started her pop career with one of the most silly song - even though very enjoyable), it's actually good to have a good old popstar releasing a fresh pop tune with a fresh pop video and above all who's not taking herself too seriously.

Go Katy.

Katy Perry is hardly old, she's only on her second album :P

She first appeared on (US) charts around the same time as the GaGa

I meant good old popstar as in back in the day when pop songs were not supposed to re-invent the world and theorise new systems of values.

There's no doubt this is going to debut at #1, something that IKAG didn't do, because of the rush-release.

I can see this selling over 100k in it's first week, it's pulling huge sales in the US.

As for the video, it's really, really fun. It's kind of Aqua-esque, but more sexed up for 2010 standards.

Thought the former doesnt necessarliy lead from the latter, of course.

I suppose I can use my DVD recorder's HDD to eliminate Snoop's part, then I can safely watch it... :P
