For everyone who enjoyed this countdown. I will be starting a new countdown based on the Top 500 number 1 singles based on their charts runs once Black eyed peas (I got a feeling) and Lady Gaga (Bad Romance) leave the top 100.

Bloody BEP.

Yeah I know. God knows how long these 2 songs will be in the top 100.

I Gotta Feeling shows no signs of burning out whatsoever (unfortunately).

It's the new Chasing Cars/Sex On Fire.

Could be a long wait then.

It's astonishing to think that after 55 weeks, 'I Gotta Feeling' is still selling enough downloads each week to remain inside the top 75.

'Sex On Fire' got a massive boost after Jamie sang it at his audition on The X Factor and even then it didn't exactly plummet afterwards. 'Chasing Cars' (or moreso just the first 15 seconds) has become the theme tune to reality TV.

Tumbleweed is setting in :P

I think that Sex On Fire is still in the top 100 now shows that its chart run wouldn't have been *significantly* shorter if Jamie hadn't performed it.

There's no doubt that Jamie helped it a lot though. It'd never get anywhere near 1 million sales without that boost (it sent it all the way back up to #6 :o that still shocks me)

:kink: Except for the third week of the album's release when it was #79

Tumbleweed is setting in :P

Too late Mikey :o

The tumbleweed has already been and gone. :P

You can just imagine 'I Gotta Feeling' being the main theme music at The X Factor 2010 and, despite already selling over 1 million in the UK, it'll return to the UK top 20 again. I'll be backing away from all UK chart related arguments if that does happen.

It probably helped in that when they showed Jamie's audition on The X Factor he practically sang the entire song (ok, they cut out verse 2 - big woop!!! ). Most auditions are lucky to get 30 seconds of airtime. Talk about favouritism. :P

That's a good point :P

Looks like Bad Romance will be around for a while too. Its only the top 75 that counts but many times songs re-enter the top 75 so I like to make sure they out of the top 100 before I start the countdown

Why are we in a situation where older songs are getting air time and are being purchased? Not that I want any sort of ban on the playing of older songs but how is it that something like Chasing Cars has such an impact where as something like Sweet Disposition or Nature's Law are much more effecting but not even half the sales?

And something like Pounding is so unique and euphoric but never caught on. Are people's brains programmed for simple and dull?

Sweet Disposition has had an enormous chart run. It's re-entered on multiple occasions and still gets a ton of airplay (ISTM anyway). That's not a very good example.

It's still a long way off 500,000 sales.

Chasing Cars doesn't have 500k sales yet AFAIA... or if it has it's not much over the mark.

Chasing Cars was number 49 in the Decade chart ahead of many other 500,000 sellers

49: Chasing Cars - Snow Patrol (2006)

50: Asereje (The Ketchup Song) - Las Ketchup (2002)

51: Lose Yourself - Eminem (2002)

52: Groovejet (If This Is Love) - Spiller featuring Sophie Ellis-Bextor (2000)

53: Mad Word - Michael Andrews featuring Gary Jules (2003)

54: Rockstar - Nickelback (2007)

It had sold just over 600,000 to the end of last year.
