Posted June 2, 201015 yr Jesus!! This was just absolutely terrifying..... Saw this last night, didn't expect it to be as good as the original, but thankfully I was totally wrong in that assumption.... This has the same, short, sharp, nasty shocks as the original film... The structure is actually really clever insofar as you have two different groups of people (a SWAT team and a trio of curious teenagers) gaining access to the "apartment block from hell" of the original... The "hand-held" camera style of the original is also present, augmented this time by the helmet cams of the SWAT members, so, there are some scenes which feel lifted straight out of a superior First Person Shooter or Survival Horror game... In fact, these techniques serve to place the viewer right, slap, bang in the middle of Hell.... Literally.... It really is quite a brilliant conceit, and pulled off extremely well by the duo of very talented Spanish directors (who no doubt will unfortunately have their superior skills blunted by Hollywood sooner or later....).. Rec 2 proves yet again that low-budget European Horror is vastly superior to its American mainstream counterpart in terms of delivering the goods.... Hollywood p!ssed on the original Rec by turning it into "Quarantine", I can see a similar thing happening to Rec 2... So, go and see this before it happens, you probably wont have very long to do so before "Quarantine 2" hits a cinema near you like an unwelcome dose of the clap..... 9/10
June 3, 201015 yr oh wow i saw the original when it came out and loved it but never knew there was a second one out already!! will definitely have to go see this i loved the first with a passion!
June 3, 201015 yr Author Ive heard good things from this. Still havent seen the first :| No point in seeing this til you have Joao, the sequel is a direct lead-on from the first....
June 3, 201015 yr No point in seeing this til you have Joao, the sequel is a direct lead-on from the first.... I think i watched half of Quarantine and got immensly bored. I think after that i pretty much neglected Rec... I do need to watch though...
June 3, 201015 yr Not only is there a second, but their making a third as well. I loved the original, and I even managed to get my science teacher to play it during the last lesson of the year, after everyone started talking about how much they wanted to see Quarantine :P I'm so glad the sequel has been getting such positive reviews. I was reading the Empire review, and they said that there is a twist that expands the world, but as a consequence 'loses some of its realness' and will divide viewers. Without giving too much away (unfortunately I will have to wait for the DVD to see it) what did you think of 'the twist'? And is it as controversial as the review made it out to be? Also what did you make of the cliffhanger ending? Lastly, have you seen the French horror Martyrs yet? If you haven't, I think you would really like it. Edited June 3, 201015 yr by Daniel Gleek
June 3, 201015 yr GAHH! I'm watching this online tonight! I just decided. My cinema (where I work) hasn't got it! <_< GUTTED!
June 4, 201015 yr GAHH! I'm watching this online tonight! I just decided. My cinema (where I work) hasn't got it! <_< GUTTED! That's what I tried, all the rips I found are from the DVD that has already been released Spain, so the quality is incredible. But as a consequence there are no subtitles, so I'm just going to have to wait unfortunately. Edited June 4, 201015 yr by Daniel Gleek

Anyway, I thought this was good, but not as good as I had hoped. (My expectations were high though). It's definitely worth the watch though, it's just not as good as the first for me personally. The ending was LOL though. It was a tad OTT, but not OTT in a Hollywood sorta way, it still felt quite realistic, weirdly enough haha.

Oh, yes please if that's alright :D it would make my day actually, was so gutted when it didn't have subtitles. I watched 'I Love You, Phillip Morris' instead though, and that is now one of my favourite films, so it's not all bad :P It's a shame it didn't live up to your expectations. June 23, 201015 yr Yes! I found it amazing. My boyfriend annoyed me though, because at the end he kept saying it was quite $h!t. But it's obviously lost on him, and he had only seen Quarantine, not Rec, so his opinion is automatically void. Ugh in the showing I went to, some Chavvy idiots made a ruckus about 1/3rd into the film, got up, purposely talking to each other in raised tones, saying things like "ugh man why'd I pay money to see dis ennit, dis film'z $h!t laik". Cretins.

It really is fantastic and one of my favourite films of the year. I think it's because I gave the film my full attention when I rented it on DVD as opposed to when I watched it online, as I probably lost track somewhere and went on facebook or came on here or something  (which is why I try to buy/rent DVD's as much as possible ) It really is worth the watch and I never thought I'd say this about any film, but roll on the THIRD instalment I say...
January 5, 201114 yr Ah fantastic. At the moment it seems a good idea, but I'll wait until I've seen the third one before I make a proper judgement on that. Are we getting one a year for the next couple of years then? Or is there going to be some distance in the films releases? (Like there was between the first and second)
January 5, 201114 yr The gap wasn't that big. Rec was late 2007, Rec 2 2009. But Rec:Genesis is this year and Rec:Apocalipsis is 2012. So no, not long. And Plaza and Balaguero will both return for directing duties :yahoo:
January 5, 201114 yr Ah fantastic! The one I'm most looking forward to is 3 as I'm intrigued as to what they'll do with the possessed news reporter, now that she'll be allowed to venture out in public now that she managed to copy the voice of that priest and get a voice recognition verified. Gah. Seriously can't wait.
