I just don't like using Urban as a genre, because it's not specific enough. R&B and Rap are very different, for example, but most people would consider both genres Urban. I'd say:

Gettin' Over You - Electronic

Nothin' On You - Hip Hop & Rap/R&B

Ridin' Solo - R&B/Pop

Candy - Pop/R&B

Try Sleeping with a Broken Heart - R&B/Pop/Hip Hop

Can't Be Tamed - Pop

Dirtee Disco - Hip Hop & Rap/Electronic

We Dance On - Hip Hop & Rap/R&B

Eenie Meenie - R&B/Pop/Ska

Solo - Ska/R&B

So it seems pretty much everything is "Urban" except Gettin' Over You and Can't Be Tamed. And I count 5 pop songs in the top 10. About Rihanna, she's also done Te Amo, which is a Latin song.

Miley up to #5

:o Noo! I can't believe she just passed Alicia. I like it, but no way is it anywhere near as good as "Try Sleeping With a Broken Heart"

I hope pixie can make top 10 (:

You're right about Urban. It's kinda like an umbrella genre. There are so many genres within it.

Regarding Electronica, I would have used that to describe GOY but not really for DD. I used Dance as it's more general but it's admittedly such a stupid name for a genre. Any up-tempo could be classed as 'Dance'.

Yeah, Te Amo has that Miss Independent music in the background. That's R&B i'd say. Rude Boy would be Dancehall and Russian Roulette is generally Pop but definitely has elements of more specific genres in it. There's the guitar riff, not sure whether there's D&B involved.

No Miley fan but she really is good live.It is a shame that Cowell is not getting more of his acts to perform live though as they are so much better vocally than Pixie and JLS.I think Alicia has peaked but Pixie could still climb, Keri Hilson needs to do some promo here I am sure she could go Top 20.

Great to see Miley top 5, this is definitely going to become her first top 10, maybe even top 5! Her singles for me:

1. Can't Be Tamed

2. When I Look At You

3. Fly On The Wall

4. Party In The USA

5. The Climb

6. 7 Things

7. See You Again

8. Hoedown Throwdown

9. Start All Over

there is such thing as urban-dance- which is what the current number 1 can be described as, i wouldnt call the track urban because it has a rap verse in it

Mileys 18 in the midweeks- so it wont go top 10 this week, could do next week, but Im still hoping for a number 11

Doesn't make it less complicated.

I know. :P Just saying.

'Dance' and 'urban' are both umbrella terms for hundreds of genres, as is 'rock' to a lesser extent. Pop is everything that isn't dance, urban or rock IMO. It's a 'leftover' genre.

Now I've said that there's probably another major non-pop genre I've totally forgotten about.

It could still do it if it penetrates deep enough into the top 10 for the rest of the week ...

Miley closing the gap on 4th Place... I think if she gets top 3 by tonight she will get in top 10.. it's now in the top 20 on amazon aswell !! :D

Spot on but you're forgetting Country.

Oh and btw I thought of that BEFORE i read the last line. :P

I don't think it's possible for Miley to get top 10 this week, she might hilariously get #11 but it's more likely she'll end up 13-15.

Oh yes, country of course :P Knew I was missing one. Country is hardly a successful genre here, there's only been like 8 country albums to make the top 20 since 2000 (I think that was the figure MW gave after Lady Ant got #8?)
