It further proves how out of touch the BBC are. Perform on Britain's Got Talent and watch your single get a massive boost in sales (Alicia, Miley, Pixie). Perform on The Jonathan Ross Show and watch your song rebound back into the top 10 (Eminem).

Imagine how much of an impact Top Of The Pops would have if the BBC brought it back. Even with the horrendous Fearne & Reggie presenting.

And what would the BBC get out of it?

All week Simon Cowell has had artists on BGT from the Sony family or his shows:

Monday: Diversity - BGT

Tuesday: Alicia Keys - record label is RCA/Jive label (Sony)

Wednesday: Pixie Lott - publisher is Sony/ATV

Thursday: Miley Cyrus - he must REALLY like her

Friday: JLS - record label is Epic (Sony) / X-Factor

Saturday: charity world cup song he's had a hand in.

Viewing figures for a TOTP return would be low, which would be no good for the BBC, but would be hugely beneficial to the artists who perform. so the BBC get nothing out of it.

Is everyone who is black considered as RnB/Urban or something?

Not necessarily - I would describe Michael Jackson's music as Pop, and also I wouldn't describe late 70's/early 80's disco music (e.g. Kool & The Gang, etc) as urban either.

What about Enimem, Joss Stone, Beatie Boys etc, then - there are definitely white & urban...

No way does it cover R&B and soul.

You might like to tell the Brit Awards then, as IIRC they gave Joss Stone an urban Brit... :P

can miley get to number 2 by tonight ?

I should bloody hope not. Question is now, will Tinie Tempah be able to break Guetta's substantial lead by tomorrow night? I hope so, I want to wake up on my birthday with a decent song at #1 ^_^

Fortunately, *my* birthday isn't for another couple of months... :P

yes but they also gave Sugababes an award for Best British Dance Act.

If you're suggesting the Sugababes don't qualify for that category, I'd have to disagree - I would call them 'dance / pop'.

hmm, looks like diana's falling out of the top 300 fast -_- better get the video on music channels before it's out of the top 1000...
Tuesday: Alicia Keys - record label is RCA/Jive label (Sony)

She's actually on J. But I guess you mean the general label.

Calling Michael Jackson pop is plain ignorant imo. He's the musician who I would call diverse and versatile. Pop, as i've stated before, is such a lazy/abstract term like 'dance'. It's not really a genre. MJ covers rock, R&B, soul, motown, jazz/swing etc.

Y is Eminem is rising so much again? because of the video that released today? from 12 to 5...

He was on Jonathon Ross last night

yes but they also gave Sugababes an award for Best British Dance Act.

Most utterly ridiculous award given out ever. Not that I didn't love to breakdown to this, their most recent single at the time of winning the award;

Its good that the debate about urban music on here has been conducted intelligently. Some bloody idiot on DS is claiming that there has been an overkill of black singers and groups and its time for a change of course they claim they are not racist. That type of thing makes me fume at least people have pointed out that the origin of many forms of music is from black artists.

Intruth I think MJ can rightfully be called the late King Of Pop. His music may have covered different genres but it was essentially pop.Although I think Rap, reggae, grime are definately Urban for want of a better word Soul and RnB are definately not.

Soul & R&B are urban - Angie Stone, Erykah Badu, and Sade for example are the lovely type of urban. Most of the stuff in the top 10 bar Alicia is NOT.
