Posted June 4, 201015 yr I'll edit the title of this thread when Wimbledon begins but it's general discussion of tennis for now. Has anybody been following Roland Garros (the French Open)? It's been a really interesting year. None of the women who made the semis have ever won a Grand Slam for instance, and then Dementieva, who looked to be on good form in her semi, dropped out after a set allowing Schiavone an easy run to the final (her first ever at the age of 29). Plenty of shock exits too with Sam Stosur (who's got to be favourite to take the title tomorrow) beating both Serena Williams and Henin. In the mens' Federer's run of 24 consecutive Grand Slam semi finals reached came to an end and Soderling seems to be on blistering form. It's been a highly enjoyable tournament thus far.
June 5, 201015 yr :o Schiavone?! When it got to the last four women (Dementieva, Jankovic, Stosur and Schiavone) I would've bet my house on Stosur taking the title - her performances against Henin, Serena and Jankovic were breath-taking - but she couldn't even beat Schiavone :o?! Still, well done to her - it's refreshing to see an unexpected winner :cheer: It's re-invigorated my interest in the WTA, I've sort've lost interest since Jankovic lost her #1 ranking - but it was great to see her have a decent GS run this time. Now, plz Ana Ivanovic - get back onto form! Edited June 5, 201015 yr by nickthenoodle

June 23, 201015 yr What would they do if this went on until the end of Wimbledon 2010? Though they wouldn't really be able to leave it that long to find a solution, as there are other matches that need to be played...
June 23, 201015 yr What would they do if this went on until the end of Wimbledon 2010? Though they wouldn't really be able to leave it that long to find a solution, as there are other matches that need to be played... I dont know, maybe they just have to play until someone wins. Or either someone collapses with tiredness and is forced to retire
June 23, 201015 yr 52 - 53 now! This is why I think it is obscene that women tennis players should be on the same money as the men! Norma
June 23, 201015 yr it could easily happen in the womens as well though as the final set in both do not have tiebreaks. Although I do agree, basically it's not equal even though they did it for equality.
June 23, 201015 yr "Longest Tennis Match" is trending on twitter :cheer: As are the names of both players :heehee: Edited June 23, 201015 yr by bigzarafan
June 23, 201015 yr I was watching it for over 2hrs before the frog threw a bitch fit over lighting. I want Isner to win personally.
June 23, 201015 yr I was watching it for over 2hrs before the frog threw a bitch fit over lighting. I want Isner to win personally. It's a shame that either of these guys has to go out. Superb entertainment. Back to what I was saying about equal pay. I'd probably have less of an objection if the women's matches too were over a possible five sets (although it would be even more boring than it is now.) The gulf in the women's game between the top few and the rest means that it is possible for the likes of the Williams sisters spend a maximum of four to five hours total play during the whole of the tournament ... when these poor guys will have almost have done triple that in one match. Norma I don't think there's that much of a gulf, particularly to Venus - I'd argue that on their day Wozniacki, Clijsters, Henin, Sharapova, Dementieva, Azarenka, Stosur and Jankovic could take either of them. And apart from on grass, Venus is very beatable on all the other surfaces :P.
