June 6, 201015 yr 1141 is pretty high imo for 200, i reckon if you sold 1141 in Ireland you'd reach at least Top 20 if not Top 10 on a bad week
June 6, 201015 yr I was shocked by the sales for #1, but then I read the NB, and remembered HH. :D And the gap between singles and album sales seems to be increasing more every year. To be fair, most of the people I know buy mainly sinlges.
June 6, 201015 yr 1141 is pretty high imo for 200, i reckon if you sold 1141 in Ireland you'd reach at least Top 20 if not Top 10 on a bad week In France, one week, the sales for the #1 was 1,855. But in Fance, they only count physicals. However, even including digital sales, the number-one in France often sells less than 10,000. It's weird how it varies with country so much. In Japan, they have huge sales apparently.

Yep, 100,000 for Physicals alone & god knows how many when including Digitals.
June 6, 201015 yr I wonder if the the average sale for a no.1 will ever break 100k for the whole year ? The last year this happened was 2002. Edited June 6, 201015 yr by fiesta

June 6, 201015 yr Author It looks possible for 2010. Sales will ramp up at Xmas. Not unless they ramp up to 'Candle In The Wind' levels! :P
June 6, 201015 yr I thought sales for no1 singles have dropped this year. The biggest selling single has only sold 600k so far and not many records have shifted 500k this year and we are nearly halfway through the year. I think there's been a lack of decent releases out but hopefully the 2nd half of the year will change things a bit.

Rude Boy, Telephone, Empire State of Mind and Pass Out all have a shot at getting to 500,000 over the next 6 months. But yes, I think this year is not performing at the same level as last year. However, the lack of Black Eyed Peas this year is largely to blame. Edited June 6, 201015 yr by Eric_Blob

Actually, that's not true - I'll sort out some 2009 position figures to compare with the 2010 ones.
June 6, 201015 yr Author 2009 singles sales levels for comparison : Sing 2009 1 70283 2 52823 3 41488 4 36411 5 32678 10 21352 15 14913 20 11645 30 8040 40 5993 50 4719 75 2958 100 2127 125 1624 150 1332 175 1131 200 980
June 7, 201015 yr So the average #1 sales for 2010 so far are higher than 2009 at this point, even ignoring the freak huge sales for Haiti. :o
June 8, 201015 yr I'm surprised how well songs sell further down the chart. Even in 2002, the last big singles year before the physicals slump, I'd be surprised if the top 20 averaged over 14k and the #5s over 38k. Actually, does anyone have the breakdown for 2002? June 8, 201015 yr Author I'm surprised how well songs sell further down the chart. A lot of people are. I don't have info for 2002, but AIUI, before downloads were added, the #200 used to sell only 150-200 copies a week!

June 17, 201015 yr Author 200 1141 Following up on this, these are the some of the estimated average sales figures (for singles) that I use for my YTD lists : #250(*) ~950 copies #300 ~750 copies #400 ~525 #500 ~450 #1000 ~300 (*) Based on positions in the iTunes T1000 charts, as obviously I don't have positions in the official chart below #200. The above estimates seem to work reasonably well for keeping YTD positions in line, for songs that've dropped out of the T200. Edited June 17, 201015 yr by vidcapper
June 18, 201015 yr i remember getting excited for rachel stevens selling 10,000 and getting to #10 these days that would have got her to #30 just shows how big the sales increase has been since the digital takeover!
