Posted June 9, 201015 yr Last time in 2006, there was a topic for each group, but I think for all other non-England games, one thread will suffice. Seperate threads for England games I think will be the best option just because there will be more interest than normal in football, so a lot of casual fans will probably just want to add their input in and not feel intimidated. Now i'm going on holiday at the end of June, so I won't be about for two weeks, so someone else can do whatever they think is necessary with creating threads when it gets to the semi-finals/final. Sooo, winner predictions? Top scorer predictions? For me Brazil and Spain are the only two teams in it. I'm going to go with Brazil, but Spain absolutely dominated Poland in their last friendly so who knows. Top scorer: Frank Lampard. Going out on a nut here, but just have that feeling.
June 9, 201015 yr Agreed, a Spain v Brazil final is pretty much a dead cert to happen, but I definatley fancy Spain to win the whole thing.
June 9, 201015 yr I think Brazil and Spain are being over-rated. They might be the best but they're not that far ahead of the rest. I think if you stick it up Spain enough you'd be able to beat them, just like Inter did with Barca. They might play the prettiest football but they're far from being unbeatable. My money is on the Germans to win it, literally. £10 on the Germans to win it, £20 free bet on Paraguay to win their group. £5 each way for Fat Frank to win the Golden Boot.
June 11, 201015 yr Mexico had a goal disallowed in the first half, around the 20th minute, IIRC, as the officials on the pitch said that Mexico were offside....
June 11, 201015 yr I wanted the host nation to win the opening match, in the end they drew, due to lack of poor defending from South Africa, but I do think South Africa and probably France will not pass their group matches, I do think Uruguay and Mexico are looking at qualifying, France have been disappointing in the first half against Uruguay. But I find this group is pretty strong which could upset a few countries. I put my money on France not qualifying. I think the dutch could upset a few countries along the way, they seem to be a strong team, maybe Spain could go all the way. Ivory Coast are a very strong Asian team, they might actually qualify and upset a few teams along the way, I wouldn't rule them out yet. And that buzzing noise in the background is so very annoying, keep on thinking Bees are buzzing around.

Yes, but they were so it was the correct decision. If anything South Africa should have won with the chance they had with 10 minutes to spare when Mphela hit the post when one on one with the Mexican goalkeeper.

And the buzzing comes from the vuvuzelas - plastic trumpet type instruments which are set to get very annoying over the next month.
June 11, 201015 yr I hope to god Spain don't win the whole thing, can't abide them recently. My money is on Brazil, although I'm sticking by one slightly off the wall prediction that the Ivory Coast will beat the Spanish in the Second Round. Just a hunch I have :D
June 11, 201015 yr Author If Irory Coast had Drogba (sure he's out injured?) then i'd mark them down as a threat to be an upset (not to win mind), but as they don't then they're nullified. It's a bit like England with Rooney or the dutch without Van Persie - they sort of become a bit more average.
June 11, 201015 yr Group A are $h!te. I'm more worried about England's potential oponents in the second round than the quater finals to be honest. Domenech is clueless, sure the odds of a repeat Italy vs France final are incredibly high? I don't know how to World Cup finalists can fall so far in the next four years.

June 11, 201015 yr That was like watching paint to dry, last match between Uruguay and France ended up in a 0:0 draw, and the previous the same outcome, talk about third time lucky. I honestly can't see the French qualifying after that performance, Uruguay had better chances, they could have scored 2 goals at least.
June 11, 201015 yr From a very exciting game, between Mexico + South Africa earlier, with some 'OOOH' moments - to a very dull, poor game between France + Uraguay. I think a draw is right for both though - in the earlier match, they both had their big chances - but, South Africa's defence could be their big letdown.
June 11, 201015 yr I think the dutch could upset a few countries along the way I don't think Holland going far would be an upset. They have the best team together with Spain, IMO. It's a bit like England with Rooney or the dutch without Van Persie - they sort of become a bit more average. The Dutch have enough other great players to compensate that loss, IMO. Group A are $h!te. I'm more worried about England's potential oponents in the second round than the quater finals to be honest. Hi. :kink: Tomorrow should be better with Argentina and England playing. South Korea once weren't bad, either. Don't know if they still are.
