The other team played well and the goalie made a mistake, stop getting sucked into the media rubbish.

England did much better then expected. Good result for them.

 

Glad the US backed off for the last 20 minutes as that is when England are weak playing in South Africa. Lampard had a very poor game. Rooney shouldn't start any game from now on; his temperament is such that he is unlikely to stay on for all the games, you only have to play with 10 men for part of one game to go out of this competition. So to much of a risk to start now.

One point from the first game, England might even qualify for the next round now. Game against Algeria is now important.

Not sure what you saying here. The England team in 2006 was much better, they had David Beckham and Rio Ferdinand, two world class players.

 

edit: I see you mean about Rooney. Well being sent off in 2006 doesn't mean he won't be in 2010. It's a gamble to play him when matches are crucial.

ITV getting some stick on other forums. ITV HD missed the England goal completely , cut to ads by mistake after 3 minutes. Some ITV regions also experienced a blank screen on normal ITV just as the goal came. :rolleyes: We saw it in London though. ITV really need to sort these techincal issues.

Scoring an early goal is perhaps the worst thing that can happen in football unless a 2nd goal comes quickly (yet again shown today).

 

England looked one dimensional at times, and our squad cearly is not good enough this time around. Is a shame, and far too much will be read into this result. This is the most difficult match on paper in our group and we came away with a draw. I thought it would be a draw before the game, and i'm delighted that I was right. A draw was the best result on the balance of play definitely.

I'm talking about Rooney's temprement. He's had no problems recently and doesn't have as many stupid sending offs now. I know tonight they were going on about 'oh calm down Wayne' when he wasn't doing anything but remember this is ITV and they can't do sport. They overhyped a one goal lead like they were The Sun! But I do agree with your point there.

You would have deserved the win, though. Maybe your players should try not to shoot straight into the goalkeeper's arms so often next time. :P

Guys, 1-1 isn't a bad result! This is a USA team who beat Spain 2-0 just last year and are only ranked six places below us in the world rankings. It was ALWAYS going to be a tough game, and whilst 3 points would have been nice we can still easily win the group.

Saying that goalkeeping os so hard. All players make mistakes, but it's goalkeeper mistakes that are the most memorable because they often ending up costing goals. Hardest job on the pitch.

Robinson's looks the funniest but it's actually the one where the goalkeeper is least at fault, IMO.

I think England played really well, they just couldn't finish it off. There were definitely some holes in their defense, and a more strategic would've been able to capitalise on that. I wasn't impressed with USA last night & really don't think they played that well. England went IN on the second half, but just couldnt close another goal.

After watching Robbie Williams' Soccer Aid the previous week ... I think Jamie Theakston would have been a good choice for England goalkeeper. :)

At the moment England are looking rosy, if the Algeria vs. Slovenia is goal-less at the moment they are 0:0 either side has scored. They can still win the group if they blow up Algeria on Friday
