Hello! I don't know if anybody else doesn't like that but this thing has been bothering me for quite a long time and now it's kind of 'peaked'.

I doubt this would've been noticed if i only posted in my chart thread so i've created a whole other topic for this.

The thing is... i really don't like when people 'comment' on my chart in a way of only copy/pasting. I mean what is the point? The forum is just a bunch of threads with 80-90% of copy/pasted posts inside. Was it always like that? I don't know if you all/some of you feel that way too but i sure as hell do.

Could it be better if you at least brought some small, even primitive chit-chat along with your copy/paste/deleting of the person's chart?

I know there are ones who always comment in the way of bringing some additional comments on each songs or just generally giving the view of the chart, but they are usually same posters every week.

I know exactly what you mean, I had a similar conversation about this with Casey on MSN last night.

As far as I'm aware it's always been like this on here, or as long as I've been posting my chart. I remember in late 2007 sending Tyron (one of the moderators) a PM asking what all the lists in the replies were and if that meant we had to include them in our chart the following week. I didn't really understand why people did it. I still don't.

I like getting replies on my personal chart, but it's always the ones that make little comments that are best. Unfortunately there's only a handful of people who actually reply with comments it's possible to reply to. Sometimes I find myself even trying to reply to a " " next to a track in my chart, just to get some response. :( I feel most people reply to up their post count and never read the thread again. I don't really read the discussions much, but it seems it's basically Rich, Jonjo, Casey and myself who tend to add something with their reply and only Rich tends to reply to everyone's chart. (is it any wonder everyone loves the guy?)

Perhaps cracking down on these sorts of filler replies is something we should try to enforce? I'm all for trying to change this forum from spam to discussion of each other's charts/songs, even if it's just an extra line to your post or asking for a recommendation.

I do know what you mean Pavel but 'tis the way of the world!

I, like Aaron, do enjoy casual comments on my chart though to get some chat out of the topic.

So agreed. I barely comment on anyone's chart these days unless they ask me to so (WHICH IS A BIT SAD ISNT IT THEO) and do sometimes forget to reply to people who actually leave comments on my chart but i've never quite gotten why we do lists really. It would probably actually be a lot easier and less time consuming if people only left a few general comments and then a convo can flow from that....

I'm hoping this thread won't suffer because of its 'pinned' status :(

It would only get pushed to the bottom of the page within an hour when someone comes on and tells 30 people which 10 songs in their chart they like, in a list.

It's pretty much the reason why I don't really bother with this forum. Most of the replies are boring and I like less than 25% of the majority of people's charts so don't see the point in commenting.

I try to at least comment on something interesting from each person's chart to be honest. People that just copy and paste a list of the ones that they like and leave it at that are I find odd, unless there's a comment of some sort to go besides it. I don't know, it just seems pointless and like a waste of time? I doubt anyone actually cares what songs I like from their chart unless I bother commenting about something that's caught my eye as well :heehee:

Some charts are just too boring that I can't find anything interesting to comment about (i.e. those charts that are regurgitations of the UK chart in a different order - why don't people just post their current favourite songs rather than sticking to the increasingly irrelevant UK release schedule!?! My chart may look messy sometimes but at least it truly represents my favourite 50 songs of the week - not favourite 50 songs released in the UK recently) so I don't tend to reply to those people's charts :heehee:

THIS.

and once in a month I do reply to about 15-20 personals charts the same way as they do with mine in copy/paste form, but when it comes for example to Rich, Lewis or better say people who bother to reply after I leave comments, I do comment almost in all top 10 songs and few others that I like from 11 to 50.

Indeed! It seems like they've just pushed the UK Top 40 through a web randomizer and voila we have a whole different 'personal' chart :heehee: :(

I have a thing where I'll only post in someone's chart if they post a reply on mine during that week. I'm not going to reply to EVERY chart, not got the time or energy tbh, so no offence if you don't hear from me ever, it's nothing personal  . If you want me to post in your chart threads though, then post in mine and I will.

If someone takes the time to comment on my chart, I try to comment back on theirs. Sometimes I can't comment back quite as much as I don't really have much to say about the usual chart fodder that fills up the UK chart, and takes up the majority of personal charts.

If someone copies and pastes a list of their faves on my chart, that's what they'll get back from me.

I like this approach

I find your chart amongst the top 5% of interest to me on the forum, mainly because I've found at least 10 or more fantastic discoveries from it in the last couple of years - I always try to youtube the songs that make your top ten that I don't know and 9 times out of 10 I like them, sometimes I love them. I'm hardly going to make any discoveries from somebody who re-orders the UK chart/release schedule :(

Exactly, I thought it might get a bit more noticed here?

I think maybe it's something we can try and put an end to, not that I expect it'd bring in any posters.

Like mine then. I think it's because I started my chart as a "I'm going to contribute to the Multichart" chart, rather than "these are the 40 songs I've listened to most" chart. It's hard to break the habit and I have a Last.FM chart that tracks my weekly most listened to tracks, so it's that one that seems pointless to me.

Likewise yours! I love charts that have a variety of UK chart stuff, Euro releases, Eurovision songs and other random songs.

I agree, charts which are the top 40 mixed up are tedious, and with the UK release schedule getting poorer by the week, I'll end up liking just one or two tracks, or maybe even nothing in some charts

I do agree with this. I try and make a couple of comments, and I like people to make chit-chat on my chart, so I have something proper to reply with, rather than just a "Thanks for commenting".

My chart isn't just the UK top 40 in a different order, but in the past couple of weeks, it's been close to a list of this year's Eurovision entries :heehee:

Well no I wasn't thinking of yours as yours is littered with flop singles that I've never heard as well as the bigger hits  I meant the people that literally only chart songs that have been big hits in the UK, as if they're too inferior to chart if they've peaked lower than the top 40 :drama:

I agree 100% which ultimately is the reason why I don't really post in other peoples chart threads. When I do, I always add some comments alongside listing my faves. However, there's only so many times I can do this before I end up repeating myself (which I had a reputation of doing on ChC :D ) so I understand exactly what you mean. Sometimes it's difficult to bring chit chat into a personal charts thread. What exactly can you ask? Imagine if somebody asked:

"Wow, I love your new no. 1 - how long will it spend in your chart?" :P

oops, I guess sometimes I'm guilty of this -_- , I'm learning to use multi quoting now, and just post comments to some that pose questions.

I guess I am guilty of this but I rarely post on charts and when I do it's when I want to get higher in the posters chart (and fail to do so) like last week.

Although i do heavily use the release schedule for my chart (songs tend to peak during their release weeks) i think my chart is a lot more diverse that just a remixed version of the official chart, I would base it on plays but there is 2 reasons why it wouldn't work very well as my Top 40 would continuously be filled with Sugababes tracks and tracks would always appear high and then plummet a couple weeks afterwards due to overplaying (then some would come back due to being singles) but I prefer my chart runs too look relatively neat and orderly (my OCDs). A reason why I don't do it at the moment discounting those 2 things is to do a weekly chart by that manner I'd have to reset my play counts on iTunes and I don't like that as I like to have a record of how many times I've played a song. So the only way I would do that was if there was a way how I could see my most played songs of the past week while not having to reset the play counts and I don't think you can do this.

Goodness, some people's chart get on my nerves they are just disorganised and just C-R-A-P! The thing I can say about my chart is that it represent what I like and want people to have indepth conversation (Ugh only if we were in a perfect world) :kink: I'm gulity :P I guess because everyone well most on the forum do it, I just wanted follow suit.

Fook the release schedule. It's your chart so do want you want with it.

(Oh gosh I just contradicted myself. :()

When I comment I like to make things different. I will either comment certain tracks individually or leave a couple of sentences and stuff to at least TRY and create discussion. I do it to certain members more (ie Rich & Theo etc...) than others, but I do try my best haha. Sometimes, I can't be arsed to do it to every chart I comment on. But yeah, I guess it all comes down to what mood i'm in...
