Posted June 12, 201015 yr So after a dissappointing(?) 1-1 draw England play Algeria. Looks like Ledley King is set to miss out. Will Capello stick with the same time he played against USA? Predictions and build-up in here please. (I'm going to say a 2-0 victory to England; goals from Rooney and Crouch)
June 12, 201015 yr Question is will either side be happy with a draw or will both teams play for the win?
June 12, 201015 yr Author If England don't win this they'll be crucified (and rightly so) and qualification could be in doubt. Anything less than 3 points here is a failure. These are most difficult sorts of games as the pressure is there that England HAVE to win because they're the strongest side on paper and anything less than a comprehensive victory (winning 1-0 for example, the press will cruficy England) will be a failure.
June 12, 201015 yr Algeria should be weaker than USA on paper. Will have to wait and see their match tomorrow.
June 12, 201015 yr I believe Algeria is the weakest team in the tournament. England should win but it might be made difficult if Algeria first win against Slovenia and then are happy to sit on a draw against England.
June 13, 201015 yr I believe Algeria is the weakest team in the tournament. Looking at the recent matches, Ghana might be a contender for that as well. Plus Greece if they keep playing like they did today. And I wouldn't count out North Korea and New Zealand, either. :P
June 13, 201015 yr We had the friendly against Egypt as a test and eventually we passed it. This one is a MUST WIN and like USA don't underestimate but we should get a win here. Having Barry should be a huge plus and hopefully they won't mark Rooney out the game like USA did. There are plenty worse teams than Algeria (North Korea and New Zealandfor example) but just don't make the mistakes we made against Egypt and fingers crossed we should be fine. On paper we should win this game....
June 13, 201015 yr This is a game we should win at a canter, I thought we played reasonably well last night and with a bit of continuity we could pick up some momentum nicely. The climate will be an advantage, it's meant to be cool, wet and possibly windy in Cape Town. Algeria are so low in quality compared to the USA it's not really fair to compare the two. Crouch has to start, despite him having to be bailed out by Green yesterday after he got skinned far too easily I'd want Carragher partnering Terry and I'd like to see Joe Cole on the left.
June 13, 201015 yr Group Stage: USA: 14 Algeria: 31 Slovenia: 33 Possible Second Round Matches: Germany: 6 Serbia: 19 Australia: 23 Ghana: 27 Top 10: 1. Brazil 2. Spain 3. Netherlands 4. Italy 5. Portugal (WTH?) 6. Germany 7. France 8. Argentina 9. England 10. Egypt (WTH x1,000,000)

Egypt (WTH x1,000,000) How odd, I'm assuming the Ivory Coast were between 11 and 15 when Egypt beat them so they got a load of ranking points through the ACoN.
June 13, 201015 yr For world rankings I always go by the official FIFA website: http://www.fifa.com/worldfootball/ranking/...ullranking.html
June 13, 201015 yr Author I can't see Crouch starting..but coming on as a sub, yes. Just because England's beat player against the USA was Heskey and there's no way Capello won't play Rooney.
June 13, 201015 yr Looking at how Algeria played today, I don't think you have anything to be afraid of. If both goalkeepers bring their best form we could see a lot of goals, though. :P
June 13, 201015 yr I can't see Crouch starting..but coming on as a sub, yes. Just because England's beat player against the USA was Heskey and there's no way Capello won't play Rooney. Heskey wasn't our best player imo, and given the Algerians have got a defence full of short guys it would be foolish NOT to play Crouch alongside Rooney.
June 13, 201015 yr Algeria 0 : 1 Slovenia Great result for England as Algeria have to win the second game to stay in the group
