Natalie Imbruglia - Want

Brilliant tune, #88 didn't suit such an amazing song. Elegant Dance-Pop, above Sophie's and Kylie's I'd say.

#35 was too low for another amazing Pop piece. It's epic and it flopped on it's behind.

Siobhán Donaghy - Don't Give It Up

Probably way ahead of its time. #45 didn't do it justice. I believe if it was released nowadays, along with the Florence + The Machine fever, it would do much better than it did. Same for the (absolutely incredible) album.

Miley's PITUSA was so unlucky had all the vital promo been squeezed into one week and not so spread out as it was, it would have been top 5 easily! 'Can't Be Tamed' undeservedly robbed of top 10 by the sudden surge of world cup $h!t is also criminal and '7 Things' missing the top 20 because of being deleted from iTunes! Neither songs count as a flop I suppose but in comparison to their success in the U.S. where PITUSA, CBT and '7 Things' all went top 10 and Platinum at least - they do look like undeserved flops on paper in the UK. :(

I think they are counted as flops, because an average music consumer doesn't know the above $hit.

Shoulda woulda coulda lol

The Yeah Yeah Yeahs:

Zero

Heads Will Roll

Skeletons

Bat For Lashes:

Daniel

Pearl's Dream

Sleep Alone/Moon and Moon

None of these deserved to flop, especially not Heads Will Roll or Pearl's Dream. PD peaked at like #197 or something which isn't good considering Daniel just scraped the top 40.

More band recognition please!

Pop? This doesn't sound like pop at all. I like it a lot but poppy it aint.

The Divine Comedy - "At the Indie Disco." Released in May and disappeared without trace, despite the estimable Mr. Hannon doing lots of promo. I bought it!

They're (He's) amazing and the album is one of the best this year.

Did it reach Top 100 at all?

The Saturdays - Work :(

Loved that song! Still do tbhh

Siobhan Donaghy - Dont Give It Up  I so agree, she really does deserve to have more sucess. Ghosts was one of the best albums of 2007 :(

Meh. I dont really think Work was a flop for The Sats. It went top 25, which isnt too shabby for a 5th single from an album thats done 300k surely?

The Enemy - This Song Is About You

it was only #41 in 2008 but I like it more than "Away from here" and "Had enough" which were both Top 10!

Agnes - On & On

Undoubtedly one of the best Europop songs to be released in recent years, it reached #82 in the UK :o

Though her UK label AATW really messed it up- they redid the track (ruined it, really) and lined up no promo for her.

Mini Viva - I Wish

A matter of terrible release date choice. Xenomania released I Wish in the busiest sales week, when it was overshadowed by X Factor & RATM. Not shocking that it only peaked at a meager 73 though it is an injustice.

I remember at the time thinking 'Pearl's Dream' was totally the wrong choice when they had 'Glass', which bafflingly was never released.

Plus it sold well disregarding the peak, plus that was the week the Michael Jackson death mania was in full swing and would've been #17 otherwise.

Agnes - it was 'I Need You Now' that did it, really weak follow-up to release me that totally killed her UK career. 'On And On' is very good and far better but nobody was gonna really support her after what happened with 'I Need You Now'. Stupid really, still can't fathom why they even released it in the first place.

Mini Viva - It made #73, that's miles away from the top 40 and I highly doubt it would have made it even if it wasn't a busy period. Shame though, adored it.

Pixie Lott Turn it up 540,000 Sales

5th Single Turn It up (sold over 100,000) Reached 11.. So i think for Work which i think is BRILLIANT peaking at number 2 selling less than 60k it's flopped.

A) It sold way more than 60k.

B ) It reached #22 and like I said above, regardless of the peak it sold well and would have been #17 without the Michael Jackson thing.

Agree completely with Yeah Yeah Yeahs - "Zero". Great song. Also The Enemy, "This Song Is About You" is frankly gorgeous.

Lostprophets' whole "The Betrayed" campaign buggered up completely by opening with the good but unspectacular "It's Not The End of the World" and giving it a crappy video. Should have opened with either "For He's A Jolly Good Felon", "Streets of Nowhere" or "Darkest Blue" with an epic video, then maybe "Where We Belong" could have been huge as it deserved to. I found it really odd and frankly annoying that the mainstream media completely ignored this era when they bummed off something like "Rooftops" so much.

Also, Editors' record company are guilty of seriously screwing up the release of "Papillon" - the video came out too late and then it was released on the SAME DAY as the album. It still managed to get to #23 but should have been 20 places higher the week before.

Oof, how did I forget?

The Prodigy's Invaders Must Die, their only (charting) single to ever miss the top 40. It was better than the previous single, the #38 Take Me To The Hospital too. It actually peaked (at #49) in the week of the album's release as the song had been around for a while (it had even been available free for a while) - so that'd be fine if it was never fully upgraded to single status. Unfortunately, they had to taint their top 40 singles record by doing so - the proper release didn't get it into the top 40 or even get it a new peak, it only got to #74

On the upside, for a song with such a low peak, it seemed to have sold consistently for quite some time (according to watching iTunes anyway) and has spent a total of 7 weeks top 100, so I'd think it's among the highest selling singles ever to not make the top 40 (although not *that* high, as it would have been outsold greatly by the likes of Israel K's SOtR, Summer of '69, Drake's Forever etc.)

And as I am typing this:

218. Invaders Must Die - The Prodigy

It's been a staple in the top 250-300 on iTunes for quite a while now, I'd quite like to see how high its sales are now.

HURTS - Better Than Love (looked to be doing okay in the midweeks and was in the 20s but by Sunday I don't think it even scraped the top 50. Gutted it's such an amazing song)

MIKA - From 2009 onwards! In my opinion he brings an album that is far better musically than LICM and for some reason EVERYTHING flops, both the album and all singles that have been released!

I actually think half the songs mentioned in here deserved to flop

Natalie Imbruglia - Want Seriously  it goes nowhere theres nothing to it

Gabriella Cilmi - Hearts Don't Lie The Moto Blanco radio edit makes it good tbh but the single version is nothing special

Mika We Are Golden doesn't really make sense and his new tracks just aren't good

Obviously all just my opinion here

Songs that should have been bigger imo

Katie Melua - The Flood

Mini Viva - I Wish

VV Brown - Shark In The Water

Sophie EB - Bittersweet but the Freemasons version

Most of aaaaall

Beverley Knight Beautiful Night  its a perfect summer track and it bombed awfully :(
