January 11, 201114 yr Decent catchy song, can't say I prefer it to Britney. And whilst we're on the subject of Britney's new song and ESC links (not wanting to post this in her forum for fear of getting lynched), does the chorus melody sound like a pop version of Heat's 1000 Miles to anybody else? u crazy? lol not even close ma friend :P
January 13, 201114 yr http://www.eurovision.tv/save-files/img/upload/news/2010/themeart/EUROVISION_2011_HEART_AND_EURO_MARQUE_CMYK_DARK_A4-RESIZE-600-.jpg Feel Your Heart Beat! This year, the visual identity goes under the slogan "Feel your hear beat!". The symbol of the theme is a pulsating heart made up of multi-coloured light rays. These two elements will shape the visual branding of the 2011 Eurovision Song Contest in Düsseldorf. The theme refers to the great emotions which music can evoke – and which belong to the distinctive character of the Eurovision Song Contest: enthusiasm, heart beating, excitement, love and passion. There are no limits to these emotions, there are no language barriers. The theme also refers to the fact that every song has its individual rhythm. The idea was inspired by last year’s contest's Final in Oslo, where the winner, Lena, during her conversation with the host Erik Solbakken formed a heart with her fingers to thank all people who had voted for her. Many representatives of other countries followed, adopting Lena’s gesture. This year, the heart will be employed making use of compelling animations - it consists of multi-coloured, pulsating rays of light. Their function is to connect countries, people and their songs. They also symbolise national flags in different colours. The visual side of this year's contest was designed by London-based branding company Turquoise. Edited January 13, 201114 yr by Jack Sykes
January 13, 201114 yr The idea was inspired by last year’s hit single 'Heartbeat' by Enrique Iglesias and Nicole Scherzinger. They also symbolise national flags in different colours. The visual side of this year's contest was designed by London-based branding company Turquoise. How interesting :kink: Like the logo though
January 13, 201114 yr I do love it, but I can't decide how much I like it compare to previous logos. Not quite as good as 2009, on a par with 2010, better than anything from 2008 or before? The logo is a heart... 'If I said my heart was beating loud... would you hold it against me?' :kink: Edited January 13, 201114 yr by Jack Sykes
January 14, 201114 yr It's gorgeous - far better than last year's. I prefer it to the Russian bird from 2009 too...
January 16, 201114 yr So Slovakia withdrew, then they were on the list of participants, then they said they withdrew, now they're part of the semi-final allocation draw  Here are the pots for tomorrow, when we also find out which semi the big 5 countries vote in. Pot 1 Albania Bosnia & Herzegovina Croatia FYR Macedonia Serbia Slovenia Switzerland Pot 2 Denmark Estonia Finland Iceland Norway Sweden Pot 3 Azerbaijan Belarus Georgia Israel Moldova Russia Ukraine Pot 4 Armenia Belgium Cyprus Greece The Netherlands Turkey Pot 5 Ireland Latvia Lithuania Malta Portugal Romania Pot 6 Austria Bulgaria Hungary Poland San Marino Slovakia
January 17, 201114 yr Results of the semi final draw: Semi Final 1: First Half: Albania Finland Armenia Switzerland Norway Georgia Turkey Serbia Russia Poland Second Half: Croatia Azerbaijan Lithuania Hungary Malta San Marino Iceland Greece Portugal Also voting: United Kingdom Spain Semi Final 2: First Half: The Netherlands Bosnia & Herzegovina Ukraine Cyprus Austria Sweden Moldova Belgium Slovakia Second Half: Israel FYR Macedonia Denmark Belarus Bulgaria Latvia Estonia Romania Slovenia Ireland Also voting: France Germany Italy Semi final 1 is going to be tough for most countries as there are six guaranteed qualifiers already: Armenia Georgia Turkey Russia Azerbaijan Greece Albania, Norway, Croatia and Serbia who often qualify are also competing in the first semi. It's fairly safe to say that Switzerland has no hope whatsoever. Semi Final 2 is a little more open with only 3 highly likely qualifers: Bosnia & Herzegovina Ukraine Romania
January 17, 201114 yr Looking at what countries will be in each semi.... With the exception of one or two countries it really seems like semi 1 has mostly the strong contenders and semi 2 have the countries that don't really do that well. Oooh Austria and San Marino are back. :o Edited January 17, 201114 yr by Sabrewulf
January 17, 201114 yr I agree, the UK & Ireland are split, but overall Ireland's draw doesn't seem too bad at all, being in the weaker semi. Not great for returning countries Hungary & San Marino, but ok for Slovakia & Estonia if they send decent songs, they should have more chance this time.

It's fairly safe to say that Switzerland has no hope whatsoever. I'd agree with a couple of those, but I don't necessarily see why Georgia's a guaranteed qualifier - it's gotten into each final so far, but none blatantly unjustly, and it doesn't have much of a diaspora to back it up with. I'd say Georgia's pretty similar to Macedonia pre-2008. However, it is certainly looking like last year's uneven split, except with semi 1 looking to be the dogfight rather than semi 2.

They have to send something good to get through anyway with few neighbours who share culture - they have Switzerland and Malta in their semi who have Italian influences at least - Italy is just one prospective 12 when they'd need to have something good on its own merits to get through anyway.
January 17, 201114 yr Anybody want to play the crude art of guessing the qualifiers almost purely off the back of this draw to see how close we get? :D Semi Final 1 (UK + Spain) Albania Finland Armenia Switzerland Norway Georgia Turkey Serbia Russia Poland Croatia Azerbaijan Lithuania Hungary Malta San Marino Iceland Greece Portugal Semi Final 2 (France + Germany + Italy) The Netherlands Bosnia & Herzegovina Ukraine Cyprus Austria Sweden Moldova Belgium Slovakia Israel FYR Macedonia Denmark Belarus Bulgaria Latvia Estonia Romania (I can see this being one of those qualifiers that angers me not because the song is terrible, but because it's so average in the face of superior competition) Slovenia Ireland

Yes, I do agree, but they're even worse off now by being in semi 1 as it looks tougher. They need to send something good either way, but I think they'd had stood a bit more of a chance in the other semi with less Greece/Russia/Turkey types.

I see your point, it's just Georgia comes across as one of those "untouchable" nations to me for some reason. My predictions for qualifiers based on the draw is as follows: Semi Final 1 Russia Azerbaijan Turkey Greece Armenia Georgia Serbia Albania Norway Croatia Semi Final 2 Ukraine Romania Bosnia & Herzegovina Denmark Sweden Moldova Israel FYR Macedonia Estonia Belarus
January 17, 201114 yr I'm doubting Macedonia - do we reckon they'll realise once and for all dated 80s hair rock isn't the way forward this year?
January 17, 201114 yr I'm doubting Macedonia - do we reckon they'll realise once and for all dated 80s hair rock isn't the way forward this year? I'm hopeful they'll enter something more along the urban/pop lines this year which will see them qualify I should think. They've got a great chance of making the final this year if they enter something more current.
January 17, 201114 yr I'm doubting Macedonia - do we reckon they'll realise once and for all dated 80s hair rock isn't the way forward this year? The Balkans seem to have been in love with sending this awful genre in recent years :/ I don't see why it should finally stop now - Bosnia-Herzegovina's confirmed artist already looks like a prime contender to deliver such a song.
January 17, 201114 yr I don't know why - it suddenly seemed to become an issue in 2008 for some reason  Dated reaction and misinterpretation of Lordi? Or maybe they just didn't get the memo on what we meant by an 80s revival coming back in fashion :kink:
