I love Britney... but she is not the Queen of Pop.

That would be Madonna.

Madonna Lady GaGa :P

:heehee: Well, she will be soon...

Edited by Chriss_S

right now its all about gaga.. but will she still be around in 10-20 years? only time will tell.

i think the title goes to either britney or...*grits teeth* madge

for ME personally its kylie though.

Madonna. lolol at the Lady Gaga mentions.

Either Kylie or Madonna

they have been around for several decades now and they still make great records that sell,

well Kylie does anyway

It's Madonna, she's not my favourite pop artist but that is what she is officially known as.

As for Britney...

Regardless of your personal opinion, you can't deny that she is one of the front runners after Madonna.

You can't really call Gaga the queen of pop after such a short time imo. She's had an amazing start to her career yes but remember the other artists named in this topic also had massive high points like that too and are still going strong.

Britney with hit me baby one more time/oops i did it again. i remember all the hype about her in the late 90's early 00's.. say what you want but she was the biggest popstar on the planet at that time.

Madonnas always been (marginally) relevant in the pop world since the 80's.

Kylie had a massive start in the music industry with locomotion/hand on your heart etc.. then she was completely written off yet still managed to comeback after all those years and became one of the most talked about celebrities in the word in 2001 after CGYOOMH, and 22 years after her first single is looking set to top the charts yet again this week.

Look at poor xtina.. she was also hailed as one of the best popstars of our time with genie in a bottle then the whole dirrty era.. 10 years later and nobody cares for her.

Gaga has accomplished a lot in her short career, however that doesnt automatically put her above the others.

rant over LOL

Mariah Carey Does)))

wtf?182?lol

Spears has sold more than 85 million albums worldwide

I think Britney and gaga are not queen off pop. I think it's between madge and Kylie and for me it's Kylie. If Kylie was big int he states fromt he start of her career until now, her sales WW would have been close to madges!

How are we defining this, general and cultural impact, artistic merit or record sales?

Suggesting Mariah is ludicrious, she's spent her entire career copying whatever sound is popular in the US at that moment, except she hasn't really moved on from the past 5 years and she's now fallen out of relevancy.

agreed mariah isnt even on the radar for me.

Surely it was 'Spinning Around' that got Kylie noticed again? The talk about the gold pants and her arse was everywhere at the time of it's release  'Can't Get You Out Of My Head' probably cemented her as a singles seller and is what keeps her going to this day, but it was 'Spinning Around' that kickstarted her career over again and is the reason why she's as big and popular as she is now in the UK at least. Well this is my opinion/how I see it anyway.

As for the subject at hand, I think the only acts who deserve to be named "Queen Of Pop" at this moment in time are Madonna and Britney Spears (more so Madonna, as if it wasn't for her, near enough every artist mentioned in this thread wouldn't be doing what they're doing now). Christina once was, but I think specifically after this era, she's not really anymore. Kylie probably could be classed as "Queen of Pop" I guess, but weirdly enough I think "Princess of Pop" suits her and her image a whole lot more

I hear Kylie being called the princess of pop A LOT more than Britney. Kylie has actually had artistic moments in her career and actually sings live, yet after more than ten years in pop britney can't be arsed singing live, so she's irrelevant for me.

I think he is referring to her total record sales... but that is still an inflated figure.

Madonna and Kylie are definitely two front runners I think of when it comes to this, with Madonna obviously in the front.

Britney is by far the biggest thing to happen in pop music since then. She was MASSIVE from 1999 - 2002, and still continues to be a staple today. Her first two albums sold more then 20 million copies worldwide. She has kept herself relevant in today's scene because of her constant output of either music or controversy. Six successful studio albums, one of the most successful celebrity perfume lines, clothing lines, massive selling world tours (one of the most successful tours of all time, just last year) and so on... you can't argue her relevance in pop music and the power behind her name.
