The BBC will reportedly scrap the daily repeats of Murder She Wrote from its afternoon schedule.

The move follows BBC Trust criticism about the amount of repeats shown on the network, the Mirror reports.

Money will instead be spent on new dramas and current affairs programming.

"The obvious slot is after the Doctors soap," a source said.

"Murder She Wrote will be replaced by something fresh that will appeal to the Trust and hopefully to lots of our viewers."

A BBC spokesperson added: "Recent daytime dramas including Land Girls and Jimmy McGovern's Moving On, which both return this autumn for second series, have proved hugely popular with viewers."

I know most people won't care, but I enjoyed it and I know alot of others do to, and its still better than some of the new rubbish they put on.

Who watches TV during the afternoons though, most likely the over 60s, they are better off screening repeats.
HURRAH! Everyone naturally loves Jessica Fletcher and her incredible knack for solving every case before the police do but every episode must have been repeated 5 times this year alone :drama: Talk about overkill, same with Diagnosis Murder.

I will not hear a wrong word said about Diagnosis Murder! Dick Van Dyke is a genius and a very nice man!

It's a great show, don't get me wrong, but to screen it almost every day for 15-20 years is a bit overkill. I expect even a casual afternoon TV viewer has seen every episode a few times at least by now :heehee:

NNNNNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! :drama:

how dare they!

Believe it or not I only discovered DM about five years ago when I went to visit a friend in Leeds for a week. She used to tape it for her husband and daughters to watch together in the evening. My brother-in-law and his daughter watch it together. I think the plots are ridiculous and the acting is a bit crap ... but it has a lovely 'family' thing about it. I've loved Dick Van Dyke for ages ... ever since seeing him in the brilliant film 'Cold Turkey' in the seventies (try and catch it if you can ... it is an absolute MUST!) I know he isn't the greatest actor on earth but he has a great sense of humour, great hair, fabulous teeth ... and despite his dodgy accent as Bert in Mary Poppins ... for me he was the best thing in a sh/te film.

this is a disgrace.

that is all.

I would feel rage, but working full-time I can no longer enjoy this anyway.

Someone needs to buy the rights to Murder She Wrote and Diagnosis Murder and show them on a weekday evening or Sunday PRONTO.

Totally agree with this.. Murder She Wrote is ridiculous, hoary old rubbish which is way past its sell-by date, it was NEVER a classic show in the same way one can view the likes of Columbo, Starsky and Hutch or Hill Street Blues as being classics... Diagnosis Murder is hardly any better... Continually showing the same sh"t time and time again even if it IS daytime telly is pure laziness on the part of schedulers.. You wanna show classic old detective or cop shows in the afternoon, fine, but you know, mix it up a bit, have programme X for a few months, then programme Y for a few months and then another for a few months after.... There's a lot of good, classic shows that the Beeb could show from the 60s, 70s and 80s which aren't being seen anymore, or at least very rarely, and those could find new audiences....

I just discovered DM 2 years ago when I left school. It's been the TV staple of my college years and I watch it every single day  . It is ridiculous and cheesy, formulaic and extremely predictable but god it's so entertaining! If they ever scrap it there'll be blood spilled. I catch some of Murder, She Wrote every now and then and it's pretty good as well, in the same bad sort of way.

I just can't believe you called Mary Poppins $h!te Norma :drama:

About time, too.... absolutely awful show. And the BBC need to pull its socks up - if they're after our license money, how dare they regurgitate $h!te like this day after day.

That's a shame, although anytime I see it it's usually on RTE 1 (Irish channel) so it doesn't effect me much.

I've watched it a few times, it's a really good show....it surprised me.

edit: When I saw this I looked Jessica up on deviantart, have a look at this it's really really good....such likeness :o: http://browse.deviantart.com/?order=14&amp...etcher#/d21yfag

Surely MSW is a cheap (and IMO quality/unintentionally funny) TV programme, and therefore actually saving money by means of being alternative to what otherwise costly shows could be put their instead.

The only thing they could put on that is actually cheaper is PAGES FROM CEEFAX. Would you rather have that !?

Thing is, how many people will actually sit down to watch 'new dramas and current affairs programming' at 2pm? I would've thought shows like MSW and DM are perfect for the time of day they're on. And with most people having Freeview, Sky or Virgin TV it's not like it's the only thing to watch in the daytime.
I like Murder She Wrote and Diagnosis Murder - both, imo, are miles better than that crap the BBC call Doctors. However, this doesn't apply to me because I work so thankfully avoid the dreadfulness that is daytime television (although my pet hate is Loose Women but that's for another thread).
Oh now Doctors IS awful. I'd be thrilled if they got rid of that. Wooden, sanctimonious and lecturing.
