Yeah, I'm not 100% sure I shall be carrying on with this contest.

Yeah I'll probably leave soon too, I don't even make that many decent new discoveries from it now tbh.

Same really :( I can count on one hand the number of amazing songs that I've discovered from BJSC this year that I wouldn't have stumbled across through my own resources a la blogs/hype machine/We Are Hunted/Popjustice and others. I guess it's partly my own fault, I'm more wise to these sorts of things than I was in late 2008/early last year when BJSC was almost my main non chart related music discovering source. It's completely different now and it's probably dropped to 5th or 6th down the list after TV/Radio, blogs, other music internet media, buying albums/songs off the cuff, hearing stuff when out etc...

 

Maybe I'm becoming more like Ben in that respect :unsure: I used to know only about 5-10% of the songs being entered pre-contest, now it's more like 30%-50% and most of the songs I end up voting for are songs that I already knew beforehand because I simply just like them more, as they've popped up on the types of music resources that I follow anyway.

Same really :( I can count on one hand the number of amazing songs that I've discovered from BJSC this year that I wouldn't have stumbled across through my own resources a la blogs/hype machine/We Are Hunted/Popjustice and others. To be fair I know a LOT less of the songs now, but most of them just don't interest me at all. ;( I think BJSC is suffering from overkill.

To be honest, the BJSC could do with a break, of like...three months? It's eaten itself a bit. It's still fun, but it's gotten a bit ehhhhh since...well, XXII.

I agree. Just because some people doesn't find it just as interesting, doesn't mean we have to shut down the contest for a few months or that the rest of us automatically has the same feelings about the contest at this point. I agree it's been a bit less amazing for some time, but I still enjoy taking part in it and I would've never thought about taking a break! I discover a lot of amazing songs from the contest, and if there are enough people who'd like to continue with it, think it's unfair to make that decision for us.

I would suggest that the only way we could fairly see if the contest needs a break is by doing a poll, but god knows we've had enough of those recently :drama:

 

It's one for the mods at this point I think. Or why not give the proper contest a break for 2-3 months and do a spin-off for those still wanting to take part in something in between, there hasn't been one of those for ages and everyone suffering from BJSC fatigue can just not enter it. I DO think that people would come back if it reopened in 3 months, just not necessarily the same people, as the break would give new people wanting to enter enough time to prepare, which would probably be a good thing for the contest at the end of the day as it would reignite interest and freshen up the contest. It's a bit of a warning sign when nobody seems to be enjoying it as much as they used to, even the people that are keen for it not to have a break, which is obviously understandable if you do still really enjoy it and look forward to it. Absence makes the heart grow fonder though, you don't know what you've got 'til it's gone[/clicheoverload].

 

On a personal point of view, I've known that I'm not going to be taking part for much longer ever since I was accepted onto my course, because I will go from having 4 days a week off, to about 4 hours a week :lol: And I know that I'll want to spend those 4 hours doing other things besides sitting at the computer.
