bbceurovision BBC Eurovision

Stay tuned for a very important announcement in a few hours' time about UK Eurovision 2011.

A few hours? :o So later tonight, or tomorrow? Sudden surprise, I was expecting to hear something around Wednesday maybe

It's a very strange time to make an announcement. It gives me the feeling it's not something good or exciting...
It does seem a strange time, hopefully it's not something bad!

I'm expecting Chico has been asked to perform for Britain.

Peter just mentioned the Sugafakes to me.

It's not as if they've got credibility left, or a career to kill.

They are well known across Europe.....

According to some Mirror Journalist on Twitter, it's Blue.

Ugh....

Blue were pretty big across Europe. Still... eugh. (Yes, it's reached that stage of the year where Andre starts paying an interest in Eurovision.)

Blue?

Makes sense I guess - Anthony's been in our NF before and Duncan has good links to it as well as the BBC. Yet another hasbeen act attempting to relaunch a career though, but I didn't mind them. My mum would be very pleased - they were her favourite band between 2001 and 2004

I can't see them doing overly well in ESC (when do boybands ever?), but the likes of Heart and Capital still hammer out Fly By II, All Rise, If You Come Back and One Love on a regular basis so it's not as if they're a stain on pop history, their songs are pretty well remembered. I'd back them fully if we have a great song.

A did like Blue when they were popular, but if they want to do well the songs need to be more modern, if they just stick to the sort of stuff they did, they won't get anywhere.

Could've been worse, but still disappointed.

That doesn't fill me with much joy at all. I was never a fan of theirs. They'd have to produce a song better than any of their previous singles (both as a group and solo) to convince me.

Im going to wait till the BBC confirm this, after all it's a showbiz journalist ;)

I have to say, Simon Webbe had some great solo singles imo - especially Lay Your Hands and Coming Around Again! Didn't think much of solo singles from the other three though. If I was to rank their singles as a group though

09 All Rise

07 Too Close

09 If You Come Back

08 Fly By II

07 One Love

07 Sorry Seems To Be The Hardest Word

07 U Make Me Wanna

07 Guilty

05 Signed, Sealed, Delivered

08 Breathe Easy

02 Bubblin'

04 Curtain Falls

05 Get Down On It

Definitely got worse as they went along

I don't feel quite as disillusioned with this as I thought I might have done, their chart histories across Europe are pretty impressive and 2004/5 isn't such a distant memory. With a high quality song like Breathe Easy (which is a sound I think they may try to aim for seeing as that was their most well respected single), I think we can pick up decent points from Scandinavia and in particular Italy where they were huge.

I can't see us challenging for the top five, just because boybands have never done well in the contest, but I'm not as horrified as if yet another reality reject with no success behind them anywhere had been chosen. I mean, I was all for A1 representing Norway last year and I was never anything approaching a fan of theirs when they were big here. If Blue can update their sound a bit and have a comeback as decent as that then I'd be for it.

I'm going to wait until I hear the song before I fully get upset about this.

After all, A1 tried out for Norway last year and I think most of us would have been very happy for them to have gone to Eurovision, and on paper that's pretty much as bad as Blue is sounding right now.

The curtain did fall down after Get Down On It :P
