Why would you want a song thats a "massive club song".

because the majority of Kylie fans are gay men..... who spend from Friday to Sunday in clubs.... and the gay fans love electro.... and the dizzy, frenzied, pulsing style of Closer is like your first sniff of amyl nitrate..... well, I think so, anyway.... :P I'd go as far as saying Closer is actually the 2nd best thing she's ever done.

Why would you want a song thats a "massive club song". That doesnt always transend into sales by casual buyers. Its always to best to release the commercial track first to get the people in.

And quite the opposite - All The Lovers is run-of-the-mill, more-of-the-same Kylie - a track that really doesn't sound like anything she's ever done before (Closer or Cupid Boy) would make the casual observers actually listen..... look at Confide In Me - her least commercial single at that point, and the lead single from a very commercial album - it made the casual Kylie listeners REALLY listen, and, despite it not being indicative of the rest of the album at all, it remains one of her finest and best remembered moments. I think she played it too safe with All The Lovers.... and Get Outta My Way is just fingers down the throat horrible..... I like an artist taking risks, and Closer as lead single would've made the whole Aphrodite phase more of an... I dunno... event?

2hearts was something she never done before and we all knw what happened there. Im not saying its a rubbish song. Its one of my top 3 tracks but still dont think its the right song to launch the album.

I like it but Closer is probably my least favourite track on the album.

Mine too.

I think it was absolutely the right choice, of course it isn't my favourite track on the album but it's done absolute wonders and it's made this album feel like much more of a 'comeback' than X.

As much as i do love Closer, it would have been a terrible comeback single, ATL was the best bet

:o :o Crikey... I think we like very different Kylie styles and eras, then... give me more edgy, electro Kylie over poppy cutesy Kylie anyday.....

I agree its a great song but i wouldnt go as far to say its far and above all the others, there are alot of very strong songs on the album.

No way. even though its growing on i dont think it would have done as all the lovers nor do i think it would have sold the album aswell or given as fair an introduction to the album in the whole.
Kylie needed ATL as the lead single, nothing else coulda made the same impact

I agree Regina, i dont think any other track on the album would have done what all the lovers has done as a whole.
