Positions after the first update (my PREDICTIONS):

24. All Time Low - The Wanted

119. Billionaire (feat. Bruno Mars) - Travie McCoy

185. One (Your Name) [feat. Pharrell] - Swedish House Mafia

706. I Need Air - Magnetic Man

I think Preeya will reach at best low top 75. -_-

Shame, I saw her on The National Lottery Show and she was fantastic, sounded exactly like Jade Ewen. Hopefully it manages top 75 :(.

B-Sides with Brett - #2.

Number of releases: 9

Number of releases with original, non-remix b-sides - 1.

I must congradulate Travis McCoy (I refuse to acknowledge is ridiculous new name). Despite hailing from a genre that most definately panders to the remix bonus track, he has the decency to feature TWO(!) original b-sides on the digital single. Commendable, young man.

19. Billionaire - Travie McCoy ft. Bruno Mars

22. All Time Low - The Wanted

52. I Need Air - Magnetic Man

797. Bad Girl - Fugitive

974. One (Your Name) - Swedish House Mafia ft. Pharrell

I guess Swedish House Mafia will take off later.

Expected HUGE start for the Wanted, but I didn't expect this for 'Billionaire' too! :o

19. Billionaire - Travie McCoy ft. Bruno Mars

22. All Time Low - The Wanted

52. I Need Air - Magnetic Man

797. Bad Girl - Fugitive

974. One (Your Name) - Swedish House Mafia ft. Pharrell

Wow, some big starts! I expect All Time Low to be very frontloaded though, mabye just making the top 5 on itunes. I have not heard this Magnetic Man, looks as if it will do really well :o!

Billionaire up to #18! <_<

Magnetic Man up to #47 :o

Really want The Wanted top 3 this week!

OMG Just heard the Preeya Song! I had no idea she had already released a single. Just proves this will be a flop, I mean for someone who is into the charts and new music and I didn't know..The public will have no idea bar those who watch GMTV and National Lottery. Shame it's a great debut flop big time though..I've downloaded

Diana Vickers was climbing nicely up to #32 but Billionaire and All Time Low have pushed her down :(

Hip-hop *is* mainstream music, or at least the hip hop that's 'dominating' as you put it. :S

Hip-hop is *not* mainstream, any more than Rock & Roll was in the late 50's. It takes a generation for a genre to be accepted as mainstream (if it ever does). R&R was, eventually, but Punk never was.

IMO the definition of mainstream would be : music that appeals to middle-class, middle-earning people from, say, 25-50, rather than just teenagers.

Lovin' how Eminem is staying in the top 2 for so long. Still no video, should be huge. Aye, should get Eminem back to no.1.

I don't think that's likely, given the 250k it'll have already sold by yesterday, never mind the album sales as well. In addition, there are several storng bew releases this week that are likely to challenge strongly.

'Traditional mainstream' is not mainstream any more.

What's defined as mainstream music has changed to suit what is popular.

I disagree. Mainstream music is not that which has 'flavour-of-the-moment' popularity, but instead has more lasting appeal.

IMO the album chart is a better reflection of what is mainstream, than the singles chart. Look at the YTD T5...

Lady G, Alicia Keys, Florence, Paolo Nutini, Michael Buble.

You have to look right down to #12 & 13 to find rap albums (BEP, Eminem), and after that, right down to #38 for the next.

OMG Diana Did an Amazing gob on Magic Numbers..

An amazing 'gob'? Are we talking size, or distance? :P

[Oh, come on - I was supposed to let *that* one go?]

I'm trying to work out what the most non-sensical single release of the year is out of my personal chart #1's from last year. Vanessa Amorosi's This Is Who I Am or Tone Damli Aaberge's Butterflies? Both have had zero promotion, airplay, TV play and neither are big stars that can sell on name alone, so I do wonder exactly what the point was :/ Nice for the 7 fans that have been loyally waiting that they're on iTunes finally I guess but for everyone else it's a complete money wasting pointless exercise, particularly Vanessa who came over to film a new video and do a couple of concerts, yet got no support whatsoever from anywhere :(

Defining yourself as mainstream is never the way forward. Mainstream is the genres that make up the charts and most radio playlists the majority of the time as that's what popular - the stuff that has big money for promotion etc. behind it. Teenagers are the main consumers of music, hence it is the mainstream. The mainstream can be made up of different genres you know!
