AMAZING results <3 this was so much fun, thanks/congrats to mark for hosting and organizing this successfully and congrats to doctor blind for the win. <3

yeah i don't think it should be BJSC regular but i wouldn't mind having these on some sort of regular schedule. whenever you want to host the next one mark (or anyone else if you decide to post down the hosting torch or whatever), feel free to start it here. this was a lot of fun and low stress (and lots of good music <3)

Kudos to Mark for organising, not knowing who send what feels much better, I don't think anything else needs tweaking its perfect as it is.

Just a question I like to pose if I may, we could add an award to members profile for the winner, not sure if required, but I thought I add, we need to design one first. Its up to Mark of course.

just realized gauntlet hair only got 13th :( should've been way higher, that song is INCREDIBLE
Some tracks didn't do as well as I expected - which is always the way and probably the same for everyone. We are Not Your Friends, I thought would have done much better.

Agreed - they were one of the bands I could find absolutely nothing about. No wiki page or singles/albums released?

I think a seasonal Unknown Pleasures contest would possibly be quite good, so maybe an Autumn one next in October ? Although I'm not sure if people would like it to become that frequent..

Question for everyone - how many other tracks would you rate higher than your own entry?

I'd say my Top 5 are better than the Chequerboard track that I entered.

I have absolutely no information on Gauntlet Hair apart from two other songs by them and the small amount of info on their last fm page.

I am pleased that I got top half (just!) with it in the end but I am incredulous that Swedish thing did as well as it did. Horrendous song!

Still thanks Mark for organising it all and congrats for it running so smoothly. I am looking forward to the next one whenever it may be.

I would honestly say two - my Top 2 which were David Holmes and APTBS

Gauntlet Hair are a new band from Colorado (I think?) so there isn't much information about them because they're so new. They only have one release out, I Was Thinking... / Our Scenery 7" (which I own wassup). They have upcoming planzz from what I hear from my blogger friends so keep ears and eyes out for more.

I somehow didn't expect you'd enjoy it :heehee:

I really really can't wait because if I Was Thinking... is anything to go by then they could be really special.

Am I that obvious? Hmmm probably! ^_^

I consider my entry to be my favourite, but I think the 10 I voted for, as well as HEALTH, Gauntlet Hair, New Politics and Lay Low are all great tracks too.

I regret not voting for Gauntlet Hair, but I'm not sure I would've wanted to not give points to my top 10. I probably would've given 'Young Blood' more points but even though I voted exactly half way through (13th of 26) it was obvious it was going to win. I'm glad the results went the way they did tbh, because it did look for a while there were two or three songs with a chance, but in reality that was never the case. This was the top 5 after just 8 votes:

The Naked And Famous 'Young Blood' 68

Kurran and the Wolfnotes 'Your Four Limbs' 43

Miriam Stockley 'Perfect Day' 39

Lay Low 'By & By' 38

Slagsmålsklubben 'Sponsored By Destiny' 33

After 13 (half way)

The Naked And Famous 'Young Blood' 103

Miriam Stockley 'Perfect Day' 56

Lay Low 'By & By' 51

HEALTH 'USA Boys' 51

David Holmes 'I Heard Wonders' 46

After 20

The Naked And Famous 'Young Blood' 146

David Holmes 'I Heard Wonders' 90

HEALTH 'USA Boys' 87

Pallers 'The Kiss' 86

A Place To Bury Strangers 'In Your Heart' 80

I am pleased that I got top half (just!) with it in the end but I am incredulous that Swedish thing did as well as it did. Horrendous song!

Sponsored by Destiny?

Question for everyone - how many other tracks would you rate higher than your own entry?

I'd say my top six or so were better than Sponsored By Destiny...which contrasts hugely with the average BJSC where it's lucky if I'll find three songs I prefer to my own! (Although that said, I don't massively adore SBD as I do with most of my own entries in the BJSC)

I really really can't wait because if I Was Thinking... is anything to go by then they could be really special.

I know. <3 I loveee the sound they have going (despite the rather awful band name lolz). I really love this fanmade video for I Was Thinking:

I am thinking four or five over the course of a year would be good. I'll probably do the next one End of Sept / Early Oct as it's when I go back to uni and I can use it to distract myself from doing work! :D
I loved Sponsored by Destiny. It was my number 2 most of the time. It's got two great riffs, sounds like very little I've heard since the 90s and now that I've started learning how dance music is made I appreciate how much work goes into the simplest of tunes just so they don;t sound flat and static.
