I'm a week behind US pace now, but the symbols on the doors in episode 6!! It tells us NOTHING of course, but I feel strangely fulfilled at the same time.

Oh my word. It wasn't quite as 'explosive' as the producers would have had us believe prior to airing, but it packed a massive emotional punch. I would have quite liked a tad more at the end - perhaps of everyone as things were.

The final showdown was brilliant though and as ever John Noble played an absolute blinder, getting just the right tone in every scene. I think in many ways the S4 finale acted better as a series finale though and had it not been for episode 19 of S4 I don't think we would necessarily have even NEEDED S5, though obviously things did play out brilliantly as was anyway. I just think it spent a bit too long building things up and then not enough time actually resolving every plot point. I did LOVE the 513 on the door though, that was ever so clever. I suppose in the end, the fact Peter got THAT in the post IS a good ending point really because of what it signified and what happened WAY back in S2 when it first appeared. I like to think that Peter is going to go all out to try and resolve it all.

I agree that the season 4 finale would've probably been a better place to end the series. The overarching plot this season felt very tacked on which is why it was hard to get emotionally invested in it. At least the first 4 seasons had some sort of common theme in terms of the alternate universe.

Still, the actual finale was pretty good and would've been considered an amazing season finale... but as a series finale it's just sufficient. The best season finale was obviously the end of season 2.

Did we ever find out why the Observers actually invaded?

They polluted their own world and as a result invaded the past, at a point when Humans were least likely to be capable of resisting that also had sufficient technological advancement, so that they might survive.

Okay, I just watched the WHOLE 13 last episodes back to back. I'll miss Anna Torv. The show is incredible although season 5 was probably my least favourite season. I find the ending satisfying although it WAS

a bit cheesy and so OMG I B RUNNING THRU LOYALISTS AND BULLETS WON'T CATCH MEH THEN LET'S JUST STAND UNDER THE FIRE BECAUSE WE NEED TO SILENTLY SAY GOODBYE 2 WALTER.

Season 3 > Season 1 > Season 2 >>> Season 4 > Season 5

S2 > S4 > S3 > S1 > S5 for me

Nothing comes close to 'Peter' in terms of one off episodes.

I just finished S3 of this great show. Wow. I mean, 1 & 2 were fairly good and got better as they went on but 3 was fantastic throughout. Already I'm kinda wanting to hold myself back so I don't race through S4&5 too quickly, but on the other hand, the quicker I go through, the quicker I'm not at risk from spoilers. It's some of the most engaging sci-fi I've watched. Not that I have much experience with following long-running TV shows like this but it's very rewarding.

The season finale really threw up a few curveballs (like Peter not existing, face to face Walters and Olivias *.*) that I wasn't expecting but one thing I've noticed is that it's not predictable at all, loving that. (and btw I LOVED that cartoon episode for the trippy-esque vibes it had going on). I love parallel universe episodes normally so having a whole season and a half of a show dedicated to it was just bliss.

And what's really quite important for me is that all the characters have been well-rounded, likeable and well developed, with the possible exception of Astrid but she's holding a soft spot in my heart anyway because Jasika Nicole is really quite attractive. My favourite changes all the time.

This'd probably be a good candidate thread for the new Retro forum now, wouldn't it? *slight sad*

Fauxlivia is clearly the best one there.

Oh hell yes! I'm still sitting out at the end of Season 1.

I am currently about 5 episode from finishing rewatching the whole thing with THE FAM. I have to say I've really enjoyed it even MORE this time, especially the run from the midseason finale in S2 through to about 3.13, there were a few duds in the back half of S3, but largely S2-4 are just incredible TV.

I've also come to the realisation that I think S4 is probably my favourite, story wise it's a little less focused than 2 and a took longer to find its rhythm than 3, but the character work (and also knowing them so well always helps) and personal moments make up for it. Also, the switching back and forth stuff was always something I was a big fan of, especially any scene including Fauxlivia, who was even more fabulous than I remembered.

Having almost rewatched S5 I feel even more strongly now that S4 should have been the end of the show. I'm actually enjoying it a lot more now than when I first watched it, and it's definitely better than S1, but the general feeling of disconnect from the rest of Fringe is also more telling having watched S1-4 in the last few weeks. Really, cutting episode 19 out of S4 and chopping the last 20 seconds off E22 would have been absolutely perfect.

In fact, impromptu charatcer R8

I should rewatch a couple of episodes, I have no reason to do a full rewatch quite yet but doing that rate has made me realise I miss those characters. Probably going to have to say S3 is my favourite, it's so consistent from what I remember and most of my standout episodes are there. I did enjoy S5 as a fun romp through the future but it does feel a little at odds with the rest of the series.

I think what made me finally LIVE for faux was in S4 when her and Walter meet again (after he calls her THE VIPER) and she's all ''Oh, you like me, that's why you're so angry'' and then he gets the little sheepish grin on over the sweets. It's the kind of little thing that lifts the show up to the levels of excellence.

All 5 seasons are going free to air on ITVX on 12th September. Might be time for a rewatch!
