The European athletics championships got underway in Barcleona today and it was a good start for team GB, as they claimed gold and silver in the 10k race, with Mo Farrah claiming the first gold in the European championships in thid discipline ever, for Britain - leaving us joint top of the medals' table at the end of day one.

Anybody watching :cheer:?

I think Britain can finish 2nd behind Russia.

It was on when i briefly stopped off at home. Team GB did quite well at the World Youth Championships, my little sister was in the 1500m final out there [it was held in Canada last week] I think it was 5th or 6th she said Team GB finished.

She was in it :o? Well done to her, what an achievment.

We finished second at the most recent Team Championships too, which is good because we finished 3rd the last time this event was held - so it's looking up :P

I went to Birmingham a few weeks ago to watch some trials for the European Athletics Championships :cheer:

And today marks two years until London 2012 :w00t:

Yeah she came 7th, but if she wasn't as physically exhausted as she was and had run her PB again she'd have come 5th i think.

She's like the UK #1 and #6 in the World for her age now. And like 33rd or something on the all time list for the UK

a first gold in the 10000m at the Europeans and it was a 1-2 :D

great performance last night from mo and chris, mo was really impressive when he changed gear and left the rest for dead!

in reality though, he has no chance against the africans.

Then it's a good job these championships are only for Europeans :heehee:

chambers blew it... im surprised mlf got silver, for once he ran as good as he could.

I was very surprised too. Photo finish between four for 2nd & 3rd, and to me it looked as if MLF came 5th :o

yeah i though MLF came 5th with Chamber 4th. I'd hardly say Chambers blew it he was just a bit unlucky.
Yeah, I'd agree with Chamber's as 4th too. I can't understand why he's allowed to compete as these games. If he's banned from the Olympics, he should be banned completely, and I'm glad he didn't get a medal -_-
What a day, so close for Malcolm, so close for Bingham and Rooney, 2 brilliant bronzes from Meadows and Shakes-Drayton and a fantastic and a little surprising gold for Turner.

But nothing in the 1500m -_-

I hope Jessica Ennis can get the gold tomorrow, as long as one or two more golds, as we need to get above France in the medal table. Still, at least we have more medals in total :D

The 400m hurdles should be kind to us too :P + the 5000m.

We're looking good to stay in the top 3, I'm still hoping we can snatch second - Russia are clearly away with it now, 8 golds and 19 medals.

Fun fact: Out of Germany's 7 medals - only one has come from a male athlete :P

yep, gotta agree with you, twas a great day yesterday i thoughroughly enjoyed it and we had some great success stories. :)

great day yesterday, poor start today with neither the males or the females through to the final in the sprint relay but the 4x400 relay in the mens looks like a real gold medal chance.

Not surprised about the women, but the men really should've medalled in the sprint relay :o

We could still get gold in the men's 400 - along with the 400m hurdles and heptathalon.

Which'd be good, because in 2006 we only got 1 gold - so we're doing much better than then :P.

just got in to find out it's been another briliant day 3 golds and 2 silvers, surely we have second place wrapped up in the medal table.
