Presidential Statement on XXVIII

I would personally like to thank everyone who voted for Ashton's 28th entry to the Buzzjack Song Contest and helped us achieve our debut victory, smashing the most appearances before winning record in the process. It means so much to Ashton to have been able to bring BJSC it's first winner not to be sung in English. I can confirm as head of the ASC that we will be hosting the 29th Buzzjack Song Contest. Venues are still to be finalised, but the contest will take place in the Ashtonise capital city, Morpeth Cove.

SNÁ will be meeting with ISCBK and the national broadcasters of Numayania and Quotosibb in the forthcoming weeks to debate and discuss the contests future including potential format and rule changes. Ashton is honoured to be able to host the comeback and looks forward to seeing you all refreshed and renewed in Sept/Oct.

BJSC XXIX will take place after a short break after which there is more than likely to be a rules overhaul and possibly a new format. We will keep you updated as much as we can throughout this process. SNÁ [Ashtons national broadcaster and host broadcaster of XXIX, TBO I and TBO II] are aiming for a Q4 relaunch with the 29th contest starting very very very late September, but more likely sometime in October.

I hope so. I don't think this contest could work in an anonymous format.

If there is gonna be an anonymous format I'm gonna withdrew :)

but.. looking farward to BJSC XXIX, I havn't looked farward to a contest this much since last year ;)

I wish the contest still had two semis, 1-8, 10 and 12 points system and allowed to send whatever song you wish to send. I think alot of people will come back then and the contest can be (maybe not as fun as it used to) as it was last year and two years ago when I joined in August 2008 :)

I also think we should send out a personal message to all the countries that have withdrew, and maybe we can get back some of the oldies

TRK is really happy that Tinnmark's '15' won BJSC XXVIII with a Swedish languaged song, TRK is really happy that Ashton finally got their first victory after 28(!!!!) contests! TRK and the Tinnmarkian delegation wish SNÁ good luck with hosting BJSC XXIX and hope the national broadcasters of Numayania, Quotosibb, Ashton and Kopecka can find a way out of this BJSC mess we have at the moment.

ISCBK is Kopecka's national broadcaster ;)

Thank you very much for the points!

I do love the one big final format, but semi's has it's merits. I sit firmly on the fence on that issue.

I don't really understand why everyone's so against anonymity? Countries can still work with it, you just find out afterwards who it was...

How so?

Maybe I'm just being picky, but if we had anonymity, we'd need to say "And my 18pts go to...It's Gonna Rain", wouldn't we? And I'd prefer to be able to say "And my 18pts go to...Kopecka"

Precisement. But does it really matter? :/

Is that the best arguement you can come up with? :P

Anonymity would be great, tbh.

Same here. Anonymity + some harsher "anti-cheap" measures would make the contest so much better, IMO.

It be funny if 3 countries picked the same artist and same track, if the comp went anonymous, I guess it will be first come first serve, tough $h!t you have to pick another track.

I actually like the annoymous format as it makes it more fun trying to guess which country is sending which, it keeps everybody guessing. The only problem with that, if you chart the track in your personal chart, "ooh look that could be FSR Fontvia's entry" as an example.

You could always "hide" them in your chart until the contest is over.
You could always "hide" them in your chart until the contest is over.

There's another way to do that, give fake titles, Rich originally charted his XXVI winner as Sheila - Dancing Psycho, but in the end I never sent either Darius Gaiden - Can't Eat Can't Sleep (Taito Tikaro - Addicted) or Kris K - Show Me What Ya Got (Crystal Kay - Flash)

My main problem with anonymity is it would kill a lot of the pre-contest fun and discussion. If you can't say what songs you want to send, how can you find out what others think of it, and what can you have pre-contest banter (horribly striaght word, but you know what I mean) about? Countries would be essentially pointless.

But most people don't exactly engage in that as it is - it really only tends to be you, Addy, Rich and Phil, with a couple of others occasionally dipping in. Pre-contest banter is hardly the key thing with countries

I'd see the lack of finding out what others think to be quite a refreshing twist actually. It would certainly encourage more creative entries knowing you're not going to be depending on what a few others think anyway! Certainly I'd say my best entries were the ones I'd have sent no matter what anyone thought of them - La Roux, Camille, Eric Saade, The Sound of Arrows, Erik Hassle etc. My more disappointing ones were the ones where I felt quite unsure with what I would go with and went with something based on how popular I thought it would be - Girlicious, Suzie McNeil, etc.

I see this as a positive thing. You will have no idea how your song will do. It creates even more excitement. You'll find out what the others think of it on the actual event evening. Until now, you already had some idea on who might give you points and who wouldn't.

And the pre-contest banter could be about which country sent which song etc. Predicta, odds, etc. could still be made just as they have been until now.

Yes. I know most long serving members of the competition have given up on it, but as a newbie (and following the rules/guidance) I created my country thread and flag and keep it updated with JAMORA related BJSC ''News''.

Maybe if surprise/excitement is what's needed, only reveal artists you may send and not any particular song so there's less chance of pre-configured votes?

Anonymity might be interesting to try......not sure if it would really change much though apart from not knowing who's sent what song...
