Biffy Clyros success always surprised me- I never thought a band like them would get so many top 40 hits, God and Satan is like their 6th single release from this era, it will be very surprising if that goes top 40

Her Birthday was Jan 16th she sadly passed away on the 25th August in a plane crash.What a huge loss and oddly enough a year later Lisa Left Eye Lopes from TLC also died.

My sister always thought Aaliyah and Left Eye were the same person because of their coincidental deaths. The disturbing thing about Left Eye's death was that I saw real video footage of her being in the car when she crashed - the camera obviously broke/switched off just before it collided.

Aaliyah is such a loss to the R&B music scene, even a decade on. Her music was so forward-thinking! More Than A Woman really was deserving of #1, regardless of whether it only made it there because she died or not.

Agreed. Try Again and More Than A Woman were really pioneering and way more interesting than most R&B out in the early 00's. She was at least 5 or 6 years ahead of her time, I really think superstardom was just around the corner for her. I remember being devestated when I heard about her death.

Thanks guys for mentioning aaliyahs tragic death anniversary. My friends younger brother mentioned it today and his nan told him why he should care! I could have killed her if I was there! She defo would still be succesful if she was still around today. She was the influence of R'n'B singers today, theres a lot of her in Alicia Keys songs.

 

Anyway, according to Radio 1 Chart Update, Hurts are in the Top.20!! :banana: They deserve higher but that's good enough. Guess they're doing well in physical copies.

Yeah. I'd love it to go A-list, but in a way, I can't complain. A few months ago, I would've never dreamed this song would be top 30 on UK iTunes. I'm really grateful to Radio 1 for even playing it. Although, to be fair, this song NEEDS Radio 1 support. There's other songs which would still be big hits without Radio 1.
