Posted August 23, 201014 yr Do you think this is due to the singles selling well, or because record companies know urban albums won't sell anyway (with the exception of Eminem), therefore why bother making the effort to promote them? Of course, they might well sell a lot better if the best singles hadn't already been released from them months before. It does seem odd to do it this way round though, since albums generate far more money than singles in general. After all, that's why most record companies release just one pre-album single...
August 23, 201014 yr It's really annoying! I've been waiting for Tinie Tempah's album since PO and, to a lesser extent, Roll Deep's since GT. If they keep putting out singles and delaying the album, people will have 2, 3 maybe even 4 songs plus some may leak which will lose sales altogether.
August 23, 201014 yr This is true, B.o.B was an exception and you could see how much that's aided "Airplanes" - with a pre-album release it may have had a "Nothin' On You"-style run whereas now it's grown and sold a lot more.

Of course, that might be partly due to the help of the cute Hayley Williams... :P
August 23, 201014 yr It's true that Hayley makes Airplanes awesome! I think some of the new urban artists release a single, which gets unexpectedly popular, and it is only THEN that they start thinking about getting an album together. By the time the album is finished, they could be on their 3rd or 4th single. It's true, I do think it's very late to release an album. You also find that after so many singles, it's just a case of cherry-picking the few other songs from the album that you like, as that's cheaper than buying the whole album, especially when only half the songs are good.

It's just as well I'm not an urban fan, as otherwise I would get really pissed-off at late album releases, and would be very tempted to get them by 'other means'... ;)
