Posted August 24, 201014 yr Howdy! I realised the other day that I've been making personal charts for a frankly ridiculous twenty years. This has prompted me to take a trip down memory lane and re-listen to the sometimes horrific things that rocked my world as a kid. :D So I thought I may make a nice thread for nostalgia purposes and go through them in order, this may take some time. :o
August 24, 201014 yr Author U3qv1jcIbGo 001|28:01:90|Halo James 'Could Have Told You So' So, start as I mean to go on then... not the best first #1 ever I guess but I did really love it when I was 10 or so. I guess this has been completely forgotten by now? Probably rightly so I guess. UK Chart peak: #6 Do I still listen to it? - Nope :(
August 24, 201014 yr Well...that's not a bad start, not particularly great either. It reminds me a bit of "When The Going Gets Tough" but a more bland version. Could be worse though.
August 24, 201014 yr Author Dp2mH9nrz60 002|11:02:90|Depeche Mode 'Enjoy The Silence' I really wish I could erase Halo James from history. Well, not the man I guess as that would be a tad cruel but I really wish I could claim this to be my first ever #1 as it remains one of my favourite songs ever. I remember quite liking Personal Jesus from the year before but this was the first song by them or anyone that really grabbed me to the point of listening to it non-stop. Twenty years on and I still think it sounds remarkably current and it's influence on current indie music is clear to hear. UK Chart peak: #6 Do I still listen to it? HELL YES.
August 24, 201014 yr Author Me too. I really do think it's one of the few contenders to be an absolutely perfect song, it just works on every level.
August 24, 201014 yr Author (Oh and I have 513 of these to get through so hopefully I'll bridge the post gap! :D )
August 24, 201014 yr Me too. I really do think it's one of the few contenders to be an absolutely perfect song, it just works on every level. I agree! It's got a great sound to it and could still amazingly well in today's UK Charts
August 24, 201014 yr Amazing song by Depeche Mode  I preferred Personal Jesus, but their a great band
August 24, 201014 yr Author zxEBv5U0Yok 003|11:03:90|Erasure 'Blue Savannah' I warn you all now, I obsessed over this band when I was younger. Odd video this, blue hand sticks blue stuff all over Vince & Andy. Hmmm. This one really is not cool is it? In fact, Erasure probably have never been cool have they? Oh well, they are the act who topped my lists more often than any other so it may be time for the earplugs. I guess the piano bit was nice enough. :( UK Chart peak: #3 Do I still listen to it? Occasionally, you should never forget your favourite band from your childhood. :)
August 24, 201014 yr Erasure released some brilliant singles. Nice Vince Clarke link here. From his former band to his longest lasting one (with him in it)
August 24, 201014 yr Author leohcvmf8kM 004|25:03:90|The B52s 'Love Shack' Haha! Well I truly did love these guys back then and this was one of those songs that we all danced to in a way that only kids can whenever it came on the radio. This is probably not cool either is it? Oh dear, my credibility levels are falling by the minute I guess but it was certainly a whole heap of fun at the time. UK Chart peak: #2 Do I still listen to it? Nah, not by choice.
August 24, 201014 yr I like 'Love Shack' ha, it's one of my choices for the karaoke if I ever get on it. I think it's aged quite well as well.
August 24, 201014 yr Author I do hope you sing the 'Woo' bit. As in "Sign says (Wooo!) stay away fools!"
August 24, 201014 yr Author mNgSy8HGWkk 005|08:04:90|Madonna 'Vogue' Thought I'd end on a classic for this evening with what is possible Madge's defining moment. Obviously Like A Prayer is probably her classic single but I'd argue that Vogue is her at her most iconic. Another that I think has aged quite well, classic video + classic lyrics = iconic track. It's also the last thing before finding out the answer to the all important who was #1 when Aaron was born question that I can tell you've all been asking. UK Chart peak: #1 Do I still listen to it? Absofrigginlutely. It's amazing.
