046|19:07:92|Was (Not Was) 'Shake Your Head'

Probably the most unlikely record that Ozzy Osbourne has ever leant his vocals to but he did indeed team up with Kim Bassinger to provide the vocals to the original Was (Not Was) track. It's quite tacky I guess but I did really like it when it was out, I don't think I realised who either vocalist was back then either.

UK Chart peak: #4

Do I still listen to it? No although I did enjoy just playing it now. :D

048|30:08:92|Tori Amos 'Silent All These Years'

Winter had made me take an interest in Tori a few months back but this release cemented my love for her and made me invest in the album, the beginning of 20 years of love for her! I only heard it upon it's re-release after Crucify had made the world take notice, strangely a single that I'm not as fond of even if I can see that it's decent lyrically. I've always preferred a certain type of Tori song and this track is another beautiful example, I just find Tori's lyrics really emotive and descriptive on this track and it's an original take on a woman's feelings in a relationship where she's struggling to break free.

UK Chart peak: #26

Do I still listen to it? Yes, I've come to prefer some of her later albums but there are still some cracking songs from her debut.

Did you ever hear Bjorn Again's Erasure-esque EP? Great version of Stop on it and if I remember correctly A Little Respect?

I do remember it being released but I never listened to it as they were the enemy.

045|07:06:92|Erasure 'ABBA-Esque EP'

Time for more Erasure, this time it's their only real UK #1 and the camp as anything set of ABBA covers. This was a four track EP which included Lay All Your Love On Me, S.O.S, Take A Chance On Me and Voulez Vous - somehow the EP seems to be remembered for the video to Take A Chance On Me where they dragged it up a bit even though it was actually Lay All Your Love On Me that was played on the radio at the time and was the lead track - this one remains my favourite on the EP being my ABBA track of choice also.

UK Chart peak: #1

Do I still listen to it? I occasionally listen to Lay All Your Love On Me but haven't dug the rest of the EP out in quite a while, the MC Kinky ( :manson: ) rap on Take A Chance On Me being particularly poor.

I used to play this EP a lot at the time but haven't played it on ages. Yet another piece of vinyl lying idle.

It was always a great shame that a great pop act like Erasure only made number one with a collection of covers and that the only song of theirs to reach the top wasn't actually performed by them. Ah well, such is life.

049|06:09:92|The Shamen 'Ebeneezer Goode'

It's weird to think that The Shamen were actually taken on board by the UK really, their Boss Drum album was actually genuinely successful despite the fact that this seems like a sort of one hit wonder record. I was banned from buying this at the time by my parents and I had absolutely no concept as to why, the drugs references completely passed me by at the time I'm afraid. I used to show them my 12" of L.S.I. to prove that I liked them anyway and that I wasn't just wanting to buy it for bad reasons, alas this didn't work so I had to buy it in secret and was only able to listen to it through headphones in case they found out!

It's Tasmin! :D Yes, ChC elite member Tasmin Archer makes an appearance in my countdown with her debut single. It remains her most memorable single (and, let's face it, it always will be) and it's still a song that I really love. I think it's really stood the test of time well, listening to it now and I'd never believe it was 18 years old. Good on ya Tasmin, ps, miss our chats x :(

Do I still listen to it? Yes, it's great! I've just noticed that this is a rare occasion that I've loved two UK #1s in succession.

051|11:10:92|R.E.M. 'Drive'

The opening single and also opening track from their classic Automatic For The People album, R.E.M. were my grown up band of choice during this period. It's an amazing album and this actually remains my favourite single of theirs, even if they don't appear to rate it quite so highly - they didn't include it on their best of. It doesn't seem to be remembered particularly with some of the later and more iconic singles stealing the limelight a bit, still, I  it as much now as I did back then.

I'm afraid their reputation with me never recovered from this. I could cope with L.S.I. but this was too much

052|01:11:92|The Shamen 'Boss Drum'

This used to be my favourite Shamen track back then, I'm not totally sure why now. I did like the way they always made an effort with the singles to provide a genuinely different take on the album versions, this one being far more tribal on the album but turned into a 4 minute pop/dance track from the charts. Strangely this one reminds me of Jesus Jones again.

Do I still listen to it? No, this was the first time in years. It was okay but won't be sparking a Shamen revival round mine I'm afraid.

I do like this but think it's a bit of a weak single generally. However, coming after the let down that was Out Of Time and the awful singles of that album this was quality and raved over then.

Haha! I'm liking your taste, it's not ashamed to be at times somewhat bad! :D

Yeah. I like what I like and there's no point hiding from it. And somewhat bad is quite a generous term I'd say. Sometimes the stuff I like is awful

No, this was the first time in years. It was okay but won't be sparking a Shamen revival round mine I'm afraid.

But Pro-Gen might??

This was an improvement on Ebeneezer for sure

Oh my lord, this is utterly dreadful! :o Gah, their attempt at bad 90s soul music. I haven't heard this for an extremely long time and I almost pretended it never existed for the purposes of this thread but though I'd be honest and post it anyway. NEXT.
