But Pro-Gen might??

This was an improvement on Ebeneezer for sure

Pro-Gen is amazing but it had already been released by now hadn't it? Either way, it never made #1 for me. :(

I actually bought cassette albums of their old material after the Boss Drum album, I know you will have them as I spotted one in your chart - suffice to say, I was bemused when I listened to it after expecting more chart friendly dance!

What the Hell were you thinking??

I have no idea. It's so much worse than I remember it being at the time. The worrying thing is that there is still one more to come from them. :o

I'm dreading it now as I can't remember how it goes at all.

053|15:11:92|PM Dawn 'I'd Die Without You'

Oh my lord, this is utterly dreadful! :o Gah, their attempt at bad 90s soul music. I haven't heard this for an extremely long time and I almost pretended it never existed for the purposes of this thread but though I'd be honest and post it anyway. NEXT.

UK Chart peak: #30

Do I still listen to it? Never again.

I'd completely forgotten this one. Now I'm going to have to do so all over again :puke2:

Yeah Pro-Gen was the first proper Dance record I ever bought. Still have the CD single somewhere. They certainly changed a lot from their beginning sound

I didn't even know there were more than 2 PM Dawn singles either :o

054|22:11:92|Heaven 17 'Temptation (Brothers In Rhythm Remix)'

Clearly this version is not as great as the original but at the time it was a relatively decent update, the beat and piano line do sound much more dated than the original does now though even though the original is 10 years older still. Basically I used to love the classic version and really wanted it to be a #1.

Do I still listen to it? Nope. Because I'd listen to the original...

055|29:11:92|R.E.M. 'Man On The Moon'

Second single in quick succession that I loved from these guys, this time it is one that they would be remembered for. Nonsense lyrics as far as I could tell (anyone know what on earth they are on about?) but I loved it none the less.

UK Chart peak: #18 (strange, I would have thought it would have done better)

Do I still listen to it? Yep, it's on the playlist for a mate's monthly house party so I hear it quite often.

Great song. It's about Andy Kaufman who is possibly best known over here for playing Latka in Taxi. The film Man On The Moon with Jim Carrey is about him too

056|06:12:92|Stereo MCs 'Step It Up'

Heading towards the end of 1992 and we're finally moving away from lots of pop tracks, indie was beginning to emerge in my world even if it did still have pop leanings. Stereo MCs were really quite big for a while even if they never managed a top 10 single (something I've only just realised and am very surprised about). They did soldier on after the Connected album but never managed to match anything near the popularity they had in this era.

UK Chart peak: #12

Do I still listen to it? Not really, vocally it's a bit poor in retrospect even if I do quite like it musically.

057|20:12:92|Madonna 'Deeper And Deeper'

We're into Madonna's Erotica era which is not one that I'm at all fond of. This was the second single after the title track and was the sole high point for me as she stuck to her pop roots, in fact quoting directly from Vogue towards the end of the song. This didn't even make it onto her recent 2CD Celebration collection so I expect dear old Madge isn't that fond of it.

UK Chart peak: #6

Do I still listen to it? Not very often but I did add it to my own version of Celebration so it does get played in the car every now and again.

058|17:01:93|The Beloved 'Sweet Harmony'

We enter 1993 with a lovely eco friendly song from The Beloved. I loved the synths on this and it really was one of my most played songs of the entire year, I was loving it despite the sax solo! The parent album, Conscience, is also quite good too even if nothing else was quite as obviously single material. Still one more to come from these lot later in the year though (you'll notice I went through fads with bands, often obsessing over them for a defined period so lots of acts feature more than once in fairly quick succession).

UK Chart peak: #8

Do I still listen to it? Yes, quite a lot actually. It seemed to be almost fashionable again at one point when Ministry Of Sound used it to advertise one of their Chilled compilations.

059|14:02:93|Duran Duran 'Ordinary World'

Duran Duran completely passed me by in the 80s so this was my introduction to them, it's a lovely mid tempo ballad I guess but it just clicked with me as being a great comeback song. The parent album only had a handful of decent tracks but there was still one better song still to come... If you don't remember this version, you may recall the hideous dance remake by some faceless act in the 2000s :puke:

Saw them just before Connected was released when they supported Electronic. I had no idea who they were at the time but soon found out.

060|28:03:93|Depeche Mode 'I Feel You'

Next up it's the return of Depeche Mode with the first single from their Songs Of Faith And Devotion album which found them taking a distinctly rockier direction. I think this was their most successful album worldwide and it does have some great moments but for me I missed their electronic roots and it's ended up being one of the less often played Mode albums round mine. Placebo would eventually cover this for their really rather good covers album, a good choice as I think this could well represent the prototype for their sound.

Do I still listen to it? Not as often as some of their others but it's still good.

This is still a great song from a very good album. I even got the live version of the album.

Hurrah, we're heading in the right direction again for you now then? :D

Looks like it although Suede are conspicuous by their absence so far :(

I quite liked this at the time too. Even saw them live at Glastonbury
