Fabulous. Little Bird was probably as close to a typical Eurythmics sound as any of her solo singles ever got and it's all the better for it, Love Song For A Vampire was a chilling ballad lifted from the Bram Stoker's Dracula soundtrack. Both made a lovely contrast to the other and it remains my favourite single of hers to date. UK Chart peak: #3 Do I still listen to it (them)? Yes I do, I bought Annie's best of last year and she had some decent songs, even if they did tail off after the first six or seven singles.
September 23, 201015 yr Author 6Df9nKO_6_U 062|21:03:93|PM Dawn 'Looking Through Patient Eyes' Yes, rather amazingly they managed to chalk up three #1 singles on my chart. Shudder. This one is slightly better than the last one I think as it didn't stray too far from their original formula and never attempted hideous piano led balladry. Nothing more to say about it really. :/ UK Chart peak: #11 Do I still listen to it? No, I'm not even sure that they were very of their time ne'ermind about now.

Whilst I had quite liked Metal Mickey, it was this track that really made me sit up and take notice of Suede and indie music in general. Indeed it is one of the songs in my life that I really feel helped shape my future taste and also even helped me begin to come to terms with my sexuality as it was heartening to see an album sell well that featured two androgynous figures kissing on the front cover. It remains a classic single for me and sounds just as great today as it did back then. UK Chart peak: #7 Do I still listen to it? Of course! You all should too...

October 4, 201015 yr Author K2KlTKPnncg 064|11:04:93|The Beloved 'You've Got Me Thinking' A final #1 for The Beloved, the follow up to Sweet Harmony was another relaxing effort and I thought that it was really beautiful at the time. It's probably sounding quite dated now but I do still like the understated sound of the backing and the plain and to the point lyrics. Nice enough track I think. UK Chart peak: #23 Do I still listen to it? Not really, I do still like the parent album but CDs from 1993 are such useless quality that they rarely see the light of day.
October 4, 201015 yr Author Mo6iwTRLy94 065|18:04:93|Duran Duran 'Come Undone' A second #1 in 1993 for Duran Duran also, this time with one of my favourite ever tracks of theirs. The female vocalist sections have dated really rather poorly but the mood and feel of the track are exactly how I like my Duran Duran singles to be. I'm probably one of the few people on the planet that actually prefer later (select) Duran Duran singles to their 80s work but they did release a lot of decent efforts that went almost unnoticed. UK Chart peak: #13 Do I still listen to it? Absolutely, the full album version is a regular on my ipod. Edited October 4, 201015 yr by Dandy*

I never get tired of this song and it's one of those rare moments of beauty that countless X Factor covers simply cannot destroy - I say this having not heard the cover from earlier this year as I strategically avoided it at any cost. I love the video to this also, it's very simple but really effective. UK Chart peak: #7 Do I still listen to it? Yes. The whole album is just wonderful.
October 4, 201015 yr Author IHGYkYBD0h4 067|09:05:93|New Order 'Regret' Looking back it seems as though I was always naturally attracted to the music of bands from the 80s, New Order were the latest to be added to a list that already contained Pet Shop Boys, Erasure, REM, Depeche Mode, Duran Duran etc. I don't think I actually realised that the acts in question were 'old' either so it's probably quite an achievement that they were still making music that would resonate with me as a lad in his early teens. This was the first thing I had (knowingly) heard by New Order and it remains one of my favourites of theirs today. I think I bought this 3 times, I began with the cassingle(!) but then wanted to hear all of the remixes so got the 12" also, the CD single was eventually bought too as my cassingle got chewed up and I needed the radio edit again - this was something I did strangely often, I used to like having them as a little collection for some reason. Guess I never have been particularly sensible with my money! UK Chart peak: #4 Do I still listen to it? Yes, I love the radio version, the New Order remix and also the Fire Island Mix too.
October 4, 201015 yr Author nGC3uUsBMDU 068|23:05:93|Utah Saints 'Believe In Me' It looks like even my dance obsessions were inspired by the 80s too, this time it was The Human League who were sampled on the third Utah Saints single (following samples from Eurythmics and Kate Bush on What Can I Do For You and Something Good respectively). The Utahs were heading in a similar direction to Prodigy at this stage, producing radio friendly tracks with their roots in rave music but maintaining a grip on the clubs as well as the charts - obviously Prodigy would go on to much better things while Utah Saints would never reach the same levels of success again. I actually really loved their debut album, even if I didn't realise at the time that most of the hooks were from other people's songs. :D UK Chart peak: #8 Do I still listen to it? Occasionally, yes! As I say, their self titled debut holds a lot of memories for me and was the first 'dance' album I ever bought.

October 4, 201015 yr Author P8DGPFhUpmc 069|06:06:93|Saint Etienne 'Hobart Paving / Who Do You Think You Are?' A first #1 for a group that would eventually go on to be one of my favourite indie-pop acts, there's very little on youtube so the best I can do is the TOTP performance of the AA. Saint Etienne really are a great pop act, they've released so many decent albums over the years yet nobody seemed to pay attention after the early hype of their Foxbase Alpha era, a shame. :( It's Hobart Paving that I adored from this AA but unfortunately there doesn't appear to be a single video of it to show, boo, hiss, etc. UK Chart peak: #23 Do I still listen to it? Regularly, anyone who doesn't at least own their best of should go out and grab it ASAP.
October 4, 201015 yr Author BN1Fh-Y1L6I 070|13:06:93|Pet Shop Boys 'Can You Forgive Her?' I feel like I've already commented on this one in the pop forum thread but this is one of my favourite PSB singles, I actually like it even more now than I did back in 1993. This was the lead single from Very and, despite looking dated, the computer graphics and orange CD casing were widely discussed at the time as being extremely out there. Whilst the synth crashes sound a bit too blunt for 2010, I prefer this now because of the fantastic lyrics; they depict a gay guy who is married and unhappy because he was never able to come out - so he reflects upon his past 'follies' with other guys, his wife appears to know all about it and belittles him and the song is about whether he can forgive her and stay unhappy or move on with his life altogether. Quite a lot to fit into a radio aimed pop track methinks. UK Chart peak: #7 Do I still listen to it? Yes. As I say, more now than I possibly did at the time.
October 5, 201015 yr A very solid run there I must say. I'm not overly keen on The Beloved or the Pet Shop Boys track but the rest all found a home on my cd shelf/mp3 player both at the time and to this day

There's still a fair bit of europap to come, I only really begin to love my #1s when we hit 1995 onwards I think.
