034|01:12:91|Erasure 'Am I Right?'

Third single from the Chorus album and a change in pace for this era, Am I Right? has almost filmic qualities and I thought it made a great choice of Winter single for them. Alas the public didn't really warm to the less commercial sound and this one limped in and out of the top 40 with too much haste for my liking. Still one of my favourite Erasure tracks now.

UK Chart peak: #15 (is it very wrong that I can do the Erasure ones without even checking!)

Do I listen to it now? Yes, in several forms.

Dandy I hardly know any of these. :(

I don't think they would be your cuppa if I'm honest. You may have to wait a little while longer. :(

Although I shall disown you if you don't like the next one (even though there's a chance you may not!!!)

033|10:11:91|Michael Jackson 'Black Or White'

The big comeback single with the big budget video with the irritating not at all big kid in it and the frankly ill-conceived idea of singing about not mattering if you are black or white when your skin has been rapidly changing colour for the past ten years. It had number one written all over it. :D His Dangerous album isn't highly regarded but it's my favourite of his, my favourite ever MJ song is on it (and still to come so I won't ruin which) and if you cut out the 5 $h!t songs then you have a really decent 9 track album.

UK Chart peak: #1

Do I still listen to it? Nah. It's sorta okay but not up with his best work.

Finally a song I know :cheer:

this wasnt his best as you say, but it was still pretty great

035|22:12:91|The KLF featuring Tammy Wynette 'Justified And Ancient (Stand By The Jams)'

God I adore this still. It's utterly bonkers but it remains one of my favourite singles of all time, annoyingly held from being #1 by that bloody Bohemian Rhapsody monstrosity (unpopular opinion, I know). The lovely Tammy was drafted in for this revised single version of one of the albums highlights and they changed the whole structure to suit her and had her coming in to save the Jams in some sort of mythical country and western saviour in an ice cream van. Just perfect, make mine a 99 indeed.

UK Chart peak: #2

Do I still listen to it? HELL YES. Every day if I could!

Good to have you comment! :D

Hopefully there will be more you know as we get closer to songs that charted for your age group - that said, it will then get dramatically more obscure again once we hit the mid 00s...

You haven't liked many so far, have you? :(

(even if I wasn't expecting you to... we may have to wait until we hit the britpop years methinks)

Haven't heard this for years. Slightly atypical for Erasure but a really good song

036|26:01:92|Erasure 'Am I Right? Remix EP'

Yes, I loved them so much that even the remix EP made #1. Although, to be fair, it did make the charts as a separate release also. The Grid Remix of the title track isn't on youtube so have the mix of Love To Hate You instead...

UK Chart peak: #22

Do I still listen to it? Yes... again.

If I'd had a personal chart in my early teens there would have been some number ones which I would now consider to be awful.

That one certainly WON'T be making an appearance. :puke:

037|09:02:92|James 'Born Of Frustration'

This really was very Simple Minds influenced wasn't it? I don't think I ever noticed at the time. This was the lead track from the Seven album which was probably when they were at their peak in terms of popularity. They were one of my first steps into indie style music and so I guess began to shape my future musical taste.

UK Chart peak: #13

Do I still listen to it? Yes as part of their decent best of album.
