Oh my God.

Theo, I didn't watch series 5 after about half way through - when it came back from that LONG break I think I watched one episode and not the rest. Do I need to catch up on it before series 6 starts or is it not worth it? Bear in mind I didn't actually enjoy series 5 that much for the most part.

I wish it wasn't so focused on the younger students nowadays. :( It used to be so much darker/more adult.

What happened to Steph, Rachel and Kim? They've all left now, right?

Same with me. Forgot about it completely after the break.

It has declined like :( Still watched it like religion, but they barely focus on anything that happens outside of school hours now, like they used to.
its back so soon?! wow, well looking forward to it as I do like Waterloo Road- although I didnt like some storylines last year, like the crush on the teacher- that was quite cringey, plus the teachers relationships were also not great

Episode one:

Waterloo Road is back and it is a fresh start for the school, with the arrival of dynamic new Head Teacher Karen Fisher.

Opinionated and ambitious, Karen is determined to bring change, making Waterloo Road a safe and vibrant place to learn. However, Karen’s steely exterior masks a deeper fragility as she and her family wrestle with a recent tragedy.

Karen’s first challenge at the school arrives in the form of the Kirbys - sixth former Jonah and 13 year old genius Ruth, who have both been homeschooled by their father, Marcus. Marcus’s ex-wife Hannah wants her children to experience mainstream schooling, but he has little faith in the state education system. Whilst Jonah relishes the opportunity to make new friends and have new experiences, high achiever Ruth feels she’s got little to learn - she soon takes matters into her own hands and runs away! When the school discover Ruth’s disappearance, they alert the police and create a search party. But the process proves particularly hard for Karen, as it is painful reminder of her own family situation.

Meanwhile deputy head Chris Mead finds himself in the middle of a professional crisis. After meeting a young woman in a club the previous evening and spending the night with her, a smitten Chris arrives at school to discover that not only is she a new sixth form student, but she’s also Karen’s daughter - Jess Fisher. He tries to draw a line under the incident, but Jess has other ideas about their relationship, leaving Chris no choice to resign, adamant that he can’t remain as Jess’s teacher in this situation or for that matter Karen’s deputy!

Elsewhere attractive new Spanish teacher Francesca “Cesca” Montoya makes an impression on staff and students alike, and former pupil Janeece returns to the school as the new secretary complete with a surprise of her own!

In the playground Lauren has fallen out with Sam, annoyed that her ‘best mate’ ditched her all summer – for a bloke.

Sounds interesting to me :D Though maybe a little bit recycled from an earlier series....

Fairly good opener to the series! :D I found it really emotional when that prick of a 13-year-old was lying against the rock shouting for help, even though I couldn't stand her during the rest of the episode!
Out of all the series openers this was the weakest. In my opinion, there was no excitement as the previous series opener had. :(
Waterloo Road's sixth series opener was popular with viewers on Wednesday night, early viewing figures show.

Amanda Burton's arrival as Karen pulled in 5.1m (23.2%) for BBC One between 8pm and 9pm, the highest launch figure ever for the school drama.

I was sure series 5 launched with higher :o

iirc, the highest viewing figures ever were 6 million, for the series 3 finale.

lel. I think it was to familiarise us with the characters - I presume it's back to normal next week. :)

Tonight's episode wasn't as good, but that's mainly because there wasn't much action. It was good getting to know all the new characters though. :)

OK so far... the storylines are a little ridiculous - schools giving out morning after pills confidentially?

Is the "new boy" Carl from Shameless? He looks like him.

That has happened. The Daily Mail all to predictably had a fit.

And, yes, it is Carl from Shameless so that's two Gallaghers they've got now.

I was not overly impressed by tonights episode :(
the sh*t really is hitting the fan next week!

I never watch the clips form the next episode. I'd rather wait and see all the clips in context and in the right order.

One of the real problems with Waterloo Road as shown rather horribly tonight was how unbealivably fast-paced the storylines are, with the exception of some not-at-all subtle hints at him fancying pratface Fin (who really is the most unlikeable child ever) in the last episode he went from the begining of tonight from being confused then attempting to kiss a straight man/child/prat then trying to cover it up then accepting it and then telling his father he needed to accept it. THIS DOES NOT ALL HAPPEN IN A DAY FFS!

The hints at Josh fancying Finn in this week's episode were about as unsubtle as they come. As were the hints that Janeece would offer to giver her baby to that horrible Daily Mail reading snob.
