So..Basically what do you think is the best decade in music or the most influential style/era in your life?

For me, it must be 90s with all the britpop when I was a teenager. Although the 80s has been having a growing influence on me. The 60s had brilliant psychedelic pop bands like Love and more commercial stuff a la Chad & Jeremy for example.

To sum it up, 80s produced the biggest popstars and 90s had the biggest cultural impact.

The noughties produced some amazing songs and albums but there wasn't one defining style. Maybe "the new wave of indie" or something. And perhaps hip hop. The legacy of OutKast and Eminem will live on.

well i grew up in the 90s so that'd just have to be my favourite decade because pretty much every song from the 90s reminds me of a certain time. though the 80s for me has the best songs and big acts and i so wish i would have been able to be a teenager in the 80s whilst people like michael jackson, madonna and kate bush were so big. and then the 00s and the 60s after that.

To sum it up, 80s produced the biggest popstars and 90s had the biggest cultural impact.

and yeah this

What more than the 60s - Beatlemania and all that? Don't think anything from the 90s remotely touched the cultural changes that happened in the 60s due directly to music.

I like the 90's best, as that was when I grew up. though the 60s was undeniable a huge influence on everything that has happened since. There was some great music from that decade. 80's was good too. The worst decades probably I'd say the 00's and 70's - though they both have had their good bits too.

Apart from The Beatles, The Move, The Who ... plus one or two others ... for me ... most of the 60's was highly overrated.

I loved the 70's as this was probably the most colourful time ... plus my favourite group ever (ELO) came from this period.

I loved the 80's too as these were my 'poly' years.

Apart from the first year of the 90's ... this decade passed me by totally ... I just had too many other things on my mind.

I actually like what's going on today.

Really ... every decade has its share of shines and sh/tes.

70's for me by a country mile, the likes of Quo and Queen being hard rock before they got commercial, Deep Purple, Led Zepp, Eagles, Geordie, Bon Scott's AC/DC, Slade, thats just a few off the top of my head, great era

The Beatles have meant nothing to me. I just recently dl'd '1' which is a good collection of songs. Personally, I will probably get into the 60s more as I get older.

I prefer the 90s to any other decade. The explosion in diversity, the proliferation of electronic music genres, the resurgence of female singer song-writers, Blur, Radiohead, Manic Street Preachers. Pop music, however, wasn't great.

Apart from Erasure at the start of the decade and Garbage in the later half I can't say much pop music released in the 90s really grabbed me.

My preference for the 90s could be something to do with the fact that I was 14 in 1990 and basically formed my musical tatse during that decade.

The 70's!! The 60's comes a close second however.

The 90's was awful.

That's fine but you were talking about cultural impact as well as personal preference.

Well my English might be bad sometimes..But all this thread is supposed to be about personal preference. And the cultural impact of the 90s referred to all the other things that came with the music (clothes, art, the decadence in life after I found Suede etc) and meant the most to me.

Singles - 60s

Albums - 80s

Of course, you can't really make things that clear-cut. If I go by favourite songs/favourite album tracks/etc, then the 70s, 90s and 00s could all come out on top. Growing up in an era does affect things too - I really like a lot of chart music from about 2000-2003, whereas a lot of people don't at all.

It's got to be 60's and 70's for me. I still listen to alot of that music today, you just can't beat it!! :yahoo: :cheer:

The 80s for me because of the speed at which metal music began to evolve and grow.

Metallica, Iron Maiden, Megadeth, Slayer, Ozzy Osbourne, Judas Priest - all had their finest moments during the 80s. And then, of course, my favourite band, Guns N' Roses, came from the 80s. Plus all the 70s rock acts were still going strong, like Deep Purple, Rush, Aerosmith etc.

Deffo the 60s. The fashions, the best music (all genres except jazz), the way of life.

Fave bands from the 60s - Small Faces, The Who, Beach Boys and I loved Motown and Soul (Aretha, Otis, James Brown, Sam & Dave etc)

Also music wise 80s for US Rock and 90s for European Techno & Hardcore.

The 00s for European Rock and British acts such as Little Boots, Duffy, Eliza Doolittle, Ting Tings etc.

Personally for me it's the 80s, just because it's the decade i grew up in going to school and all that.

The charts were full of a variety of styles (unlike today), from rock, alternative to pop and soul, and the big

stadium megastars to novelty and easy listening.

90s were okay, but the 80s just tops it for me.

The 90s by a million miles. My favourite genres were out in the 90s: eurodance, trance, garage. Oh and I liked the output during this decade for other genres like R&B, pop, and heck, even rock was decent.

The 1950's by a mile. Elvis THE KING and all the original rock 'n' rollers without which no other pop era would exist as we now know them. Of course people tend to vote for the era they became teenagers. Only natural I suppose as memories remain of those impressionable times, first love and music.
