Posted September 5, 201014 yr Graham Appleyard published what he calls 'The Real Charts' in his Blog. Believe me - we, ('Chart Fans') - have tried to find out exactly where Graham gets these Charts from - and - more especially - where the Sales Data comes from. We had a big 'Debate' with him here:, (And - are no wiser!) http://www.ukmix.org/forums/viewtopic.php?p=2559647 THE 'REAL CHART No.1 SINGLES Now, Mr. Appleyard has added Lists of No.1 Singles to his Blog - allegedly, every No.1 Single in that Chart, from January 1948 to December 1949, & from January 1960 to April 2000 - he intends to add the rest of 'The Noughties' & 2010 No.1's at a later Date. So - Is this Man creating all of this in his own head? Are these Lists of No.1's - and their Weeks at No.1 - simply the Singles that he liked the most in those Years? ABBA do very well - they get 4 extra No.1's, in his Charts. But, at least those 4 Singles were Top 3 Hits. In 1985, he has 'How Soon Is Now', (The Smiths), at No.1, for 3 Weeks. It only got to No.24, in the Gallup Chart! Surely, he has chosen for that Hit to be No.1? It can't have sold enough to be No.1, in any other National Sales Chart - bar the Indie one, I guess. September 5, 201014 yr Much as I'd have liked How Soon Is Now (my favourite Smiths song) to have been number one that seems a bit far fetched unless he is suggesting that independent record shops were seriously under-represented on the panel at the time. Even if that was the case I doubt the data would be available to compile a chart any more accurate than the one produced at the time. We just have to accept that the charts have only become truly accurate fairly recently.
September 5, 201014 yr How amusing that he completely removes every week of Brian Adams' run at #1

JASON DONOVAN RHYTHM OF THE RAIN SEP 09, 2 weeks I only vaguely remember this because it was tracklisted on a Smash Hits compilation I bought in late 1990. JASON DONOVAN HAPPY TOGETHER AUG 28, 2 weeks Ok, you get the picture... There are far too many songs with 1 week at no. 1 -_-
September 6, 201014 yr I don't understand the bit about copies. Does that mean he includes sales of all blank cassettes/CDRs sold in a week, or not?
