52 - Big Brovaz

The group Big Brovaz originally comprised three women, Cherise (half-Jamaican and half-Irish; won the MOBO best unsigned artist in 2000), Dionne, Nadia (born in Reading) and three men, J-Rock (real name John Paul Horsley, born in Washington DC), Flawless (real name Tayo Aisida, born in Lagos, Nigeria) and Randy, plus two producers Skillz, also known as JJC (real name Abdul Bello, born in Kano, Nigeria), who also manages his group 419 squad, and Fingaz. The group was often referred to as a softer version of the So Solid Crew.

The group was brought together by Fingaz, one of the collective's producers, who already worked under the title "Big Brovaz". The "Big Brovaz" team asked the individual members to showcase their talent alongside underground London R&B and hip hop artists on a compilation that was being put together, entitled "Big Brovaz - Watching You". On the album, rather than giving each member an individual track, the producers decided to make the artists work together and perform on the same tracks. The chemistry between all of the members developed and so the Big Brovaz compilation album in fact became the group.

The "Big Brovaz - Watching You" compilation was a highly successful underground release and sold over two thousand copies. The live shows to promote the release built up the reputation of the producers and artists on the record.

A track from the album which featured west London R&B singer Cherise was picked up by the organizer of the annual MOBO award and she was asked to compete in the annual Mobo Unsigned talent competition, walking away with first prize. Cherise was signed and later release her own solo album. Following this, the group was picked up by Sony records and the rest is history.

Female member Cherise released a solo album "Look Inside" before the debut album from Big Brovaz was released. It only spawned one single, however, "2nd Best", while the album won a MOBO award.

ALSO THEY HAVE THEIR OWN CONDOMS !

Edited by lee wallace

I bought some JLS condoms last week, just because they were too funny not too :cheer:

Big Brovaz arent exactly relevant nowadays, I honestly have never heard of them and JLS- well, I did like them as an XF act, they may be successful- but that is largely based on their huge fanbase, musically, they are extremely average, the condoms thing did make me lol though

both are too high imo -_-

Edited by chart wizard

Foo Fighters are great- they really should be higher, some really good songs they've done

The Cardigans I dont know except Lovefool- which I do like

Surely you know 'My Favourite Game'? I'm surprised that they are Swedish, I always thought that they are American.

Ahh Big Brovaz were really good actually!

Also I love JLS, I thought they would be alot lower on here, I think they get too much stick!

Favourite Song - Never Forget You

http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j315/Belk93/Noissettes.jpg

Noisettes (occasionally written as NOISEttes to mark the difference in pronunciation from noisette - a cooking term meaning hazelnut flavoured or hazel in French) are an indie rock band from London comprising singer and bassist Shingai Shoniwa, guitarist Dan Smith, and drummer Jamie Morrison. The band first achieved commercial success and nationwide recognition with the second single of their second album, "Don't Upset the Rhythm (Go Baby Go)" which reached number two on the UK Singles Chart in Spring 2009

The band formed in 1996 when guitarist Smith and singer Shoniwa were attending the BRIT School for Performing Arts & Technology in Croydon, both of whom had previously been in the band Sonarfly. Drummer Morrison (formerly of Living With Eating Disorders, Willis, Six Toes, Jaywalk Buzz, Loden Jumbo and others) was recruited after Smith saw him performing on the UK television show 'Later... with Jools Holland' with his then band, Willis. The Noisettes quickly formed a reputation for being one of the rowdiest live acts in London.

Early feedback about the band was largely positive. Entertainment Weekly placed the band on its November 2005 list of "Six Indie Brit Bands on the Cusp," and said the band "sound like high-drama, heavily syncopated swagger-and-sway rock, spearheaded by incandescent frontwoman Shingai Shoniwa." In a March 2006 article on UK bands, USA Today said, "The incendiary Shingai Shoniwa leads this London blues-punk band, known for its feral and explosive live show."

Big Brovaz were rather good back in the day, some of the material has aged better than others admittatly but on the whole, I think it's a bit of a shame they couldnt keep the momentum of their success with the first album going. Favourite Things and Yours Fatally were my favourites from them.

The Hoosiers are really just not very good. At all. Their only purpose seems to be to make Scouting For Girls seem slightly less diabolical in comparisment. Back in 2007 both bands were just unavoidable, which was just awful. I'm very very thankful their second album campaign doesnt appear to be going drastically well.

Adore The Noisettes though. Must admit that I'd never heard of them until Dont Upset The Rhythm and I'm yet to actually listen to their debut but Wild Young Hearts was defiantly one of my favourite albums from last year, and had a huge number of brilliant tracks. I'd have to agree with Never Forget You being their best song aswell to be honest.

Favourite Song - Air Hostess/What I go to school for.

http://i226.photobucket.com/albums/dd162/MemoryLane512/Bustedofficial.jpg

Busted was a British pop rock band which formed in 2000 and broke up in 2005. The band's line-up consisted of James Bourne, Matt Willis and Charlie Simpson. They sold over three million albums worldwide, winning two BRIT Awards, Record of the Year and performing on several sellout arena tours.

The band, initially called Buster, consisted of James Bourne (guitar and vocals), Matt Willis (drums), Owen Doyle (bass and vocals), Ki McPhail (guitar and vocals) and Mark Dillon (vocals). That March, the quartet signed a deal with a professional management. During a TV appearance Geri Halliwell introduced them as "Busted" accidentally and the guys thought it fitted, so Buster was no more and they were re-christened as "Busted". In October, however, McPhail and Doyle say they were kicked out of the group and Mark left to focus on schooling.

Busted briefly placed Tom Fletcher as lead guitarist and vocalist, alongside Willis and Bourne. After about 24 hours in the band, Fletcher was replaced by Charlie Simpson. However, Fletcher was kept on for other projects which led to him becoming a member and main songwriter for his own band, McFly, who supported Busted on their UK tour in the early part of 2004. Fletcher also co-wrote songs with Bourne which featured on both Busted albums.

With Simpson on board, they set about looking for a record deal in late 2001. At one point they were offered a deal with Pop Idol judge Simon Cowell on his SycoMusic label, which they turned down. The band finally signed with Universal Island in early 2002 without a drummer, and so employed a number of session musicians to fill the role on stage and in the studio.

[edit] Busted (2002-03)

The band were launched in August 2002, making their first appearance on the cover of Smash Hits with the headline: "Meet Busted: They're Going to Be Bigger Than Rik Waller!", making it a first for any pop band to appear on the magazine's cover before releasing a single. Their debut single, "What I Go to School For", was finally released in September 2002, reaching number three in the UK charts. Their debut album was then released, initially charting only around the UK Top 30 and receiving mixed reviews from critics. The follow up, "Year 3000" which was written about James Bourne's obsession with the film Back to the Future then followed in January 2003, reaching number two in the UK chart. In April, their third single, "You Said No" finally reached number one. Guinness Hit Singles certified them as the first band to have their debut three singles enter the top three in an ascending order.

Recording began for their second album while the debut album was re-released with new tracks and an enhanced CD section. It would go onto sell 1.2 million copies by the end of the year. The debut album's final single, "Sleeping with the Light On", reached number three in August 2003, beaten to number one by Blu Cantrell's Breathe.

45-30 from 6.00pm tonight!

Never forget you didin't do well in the charts which was criminal!

Surely you know 'My Favourite Game'? I'm surprised that they are Swedish, I always thought that they are American.

oh yes, I have heard of that- I always wanted to know what that guitar riff was :o its a good song

anyway, I feel I should know more about Arcade Fire- there meant to be a great band, yet I dont know a lot of their stuff :( glad their high up though

Kaiser Chiefs did some really amazing songs like I Predict A Riot, Oh My God and Ruby- post-2008 they kind of lost that great anthemic sound which is a shame- still great group Im not sure whats happened to them

I liked the Hoosiers in 2007, their music was really catchy and funny, I still do like them- but its a shame as I cant see them lasting much longer, they are a tad too high :(

The Noisettes made a good impression in 2009, I liked their first two songs a lot- bit too recent to be that high tbh, but still a good group

and Busted beat McFly :o they are far too high of course, but I did use to love their songs, real guilty pleasures- especially Thunderbirds Are Go :kink:

http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c236/nic248/music/london_suede.jpg

Suede are an English alternative rock band, cited as kick-starting the Britpop movement, and reinvigorating English rock music. Through their several incarnations, they were able to consistently put out albums that charted well, while still holding the respect of critics. They are considered by some to be one of the most important and influential English rock bands of the '90s.

Hailed as "The Best New Band in Britain" in 1992, Suede broke into the British music scene and soon attracted the attention of the British music press. The following year their debut album, Suede (1993) went to the top of the charts and became the fastest-selling debut album in almost ten years, winning the Mercury Prize. Suede achieved further critical success with follow up Dog Man Star (1994), which was seen as being out of step with other popular bands at the time and is considered by many to be the band's masterpiece. The record was overshadowed by the sudden departure of guitarist Bernard Butler before the album's completion and release.

In 1996 following the recruitment of Butler's replacement Richard Oakes and later Neil Codling, Suede went on to greater commercial success in the UK, mainland Europe and Asia with Coming Up. The album charted at number one, producing five top ten singles and became their biggest selling album worldwide. After the release of Suede's B-sides compilation Sci-Fi Lullabies (1997), lead singer Brett Anderson became addicted to crack and heroin. Despite problems within the band, Suede's fourth album Head Music (1999) went to number one.

Suede's final album, A New Morning (2002), the band's first album to be released after the collapse of Nude Records, was a commercial disappointment and in 2003, after the release of Singles, Suede disbanded.

In 2004, after a nine year hiatus, Anderson briefly reunited with Butler to form The Tears, who released their only album in 2005. The band split after they were dropped by their record company following the cancellation of a European tour.

After much speculation Suede reformed in 2010, featuring the lineup from the Coming Up-Head Music era
