David Guetta and Akon came very close to returning to #1 (in fact they did on the download chart). 1031 copies more and we would have had 2 Bitch/Chick records at opposite ends of the top 40. 3 new entries in the top 10 from acts with names starting with M – and all 3 missed the top 40 with their follow-ups. #11 had jumped back into the top 10 the previous week, almost a year after it reached #1. #52 had charted at #56 2 weeks earlier, and would re-enter again at #62 in December, when her cover of I Want To Know What Love Is reached #19 (apologies to anybody who has been trying to forget this song). #58 would chart again at #60 in 3 weeks’ time, and then re-enter and peak at #32 2 weeks after that, equalling the peak of the original by Jennifer Holliday (who apparently sung backing vocals on Foreigner’s version of I Want To Know What Love Is). #66 was an appropriate title, as this was its peak. #71 was a re-mix of a #15 hit from 2002. The album chart was also notable – Vera Lynn scored a #1 album at the age of 92, and many Beatles albums re-entered after being remastered.
September 14, 201014 yr I remember this so well, insane that this is a year ago already. 'Boys And Girls' still remains by far Pixie's best for me, and I was very glad it reached #1.
September 15, 201014 yr Ah a song by Average Lott that deserved to reach #1. [The fact Mama Do did still gives me cold shivers]. Take out Dizzee Rascal and that's a passable top 10.
September 15, 201014 yr That was quite a good chart! I never knew that Pixie jumped from #73 to #1! I always presumed it debuted at #1. :o How on Earth is that even possible? I'm guessing a remix was available that charted at #73 the week before, sort of like how Gettin' Over You jumped from #41. Or was it released at like midday on Saturday, so it got enough sales to make the #73 in those few hours? On this note, Live Your Life jumped 39-2 aswell, which I never understood (it would've been #1 if it was not for an X Factor charity song I think).

September 15, 201014 yr It was released a day or two early to iTunes and that was enough for it to scrape the previous week's top 75. Ah, thanks. :) It's quite risky to do that I reckon, especially if the song is expected to have front-loaded sales. Some of the number-ones we've had this year probably wouldn't have got there if they were released a couple of days early.
September 15, 201014 yr 2009s general quality of music was far better than this year that was a really good top 10, some nice diversity too- what with Muse being there among the pop acts like Pixie Lott, Mini Viva and Mika- it makes me sad that a rock band getting a top 10 hit is basically unheard of now :( looking back at the new entries in the top 10- Muse and to an extent, Pixie Lott are the only two that have aged well, the other two already seem slightly dated, despite the fact I liked them both
September 16, 201014 yr Hey vc, any chance you'd have ytd sales for this time last year (vs this year)? Nice2c how they compare
