September 16, 201016 yr I really don't think Radio 1 is as strong as it used to be in terms of helping a song do well. Shontelle hasn't reached Top 50 on airplay and only scraped in on Top 50 on TV Airplay yet it's still Top 5 on iTunes. There's been much more examples of songs not needing Radio 1 than usual this year too; Enrique Iglesias, The Wanted, Alexandra Burke, Olly Murs (initially), DJ Fresh, and I'm sure there will be plenty of others too.
September 16, 201016 yr Because Example was released this week, Alesha was released last. It's only a valid comparison if Example isn't off next week,. Yes and Die Antwood, Robyn and Loick Essien were also released this week and have also been dropped.
September 16, 201016 yr Yes and Die Antwood, Robyn and Loick Essien were also released this week and have also been dropped. Example is more established than Die Antwoord and Loick Essien, and LOS is at least top 30 in the mids while Robyn will be very very lucky to even go top 75 this week... it'll probably be about a #8 SMASH :( Example is also a very Radio 1 artist Edited September 16, 201016 yr by ~ braysephone ~
September 16, 201016 yr Taylor! I'm not a huge fan but I do love a bit of pop country on UK radio, I assume we get a different, poppier mix than usual? Not surprised to see Stromae off really, it's done in the UK  Our tastes are so different to the rest of Europe, I seriously need to move to Germany or something, my music tastes don't suit this country... Seriously, this is quite upsetting. Stromae would have had a #1 hit in the UK if it was in English. I just don't get this need for English/American-only tracks. The Nena song (99 Luftballons) had to become 99 Red Balloons, whilst America enjoyed the original? I reckon a lot of the WWII sentiments prevail in the UK, but I would love to be proved wrong. What's up with you guys? Alors, on danse ici...
